ARANI EMOS → I’m not saying I would be great, but I would be better.
OUT OF SPACE • OUT / OF / TIME (an instrumental mix for survival space horrors)
I have reached these lands but newly From an ultimate dim Thule— From a wild clime that lieth, sublime, Out of SPACE— out of TIME.
—Edgar Allan Poe
It is not the unknown dark out of your vessel’s window. Instead, it is here, inside: a place where you had gone alone. But something skitters overhead, and there is a shadow that drips behind yours. No one can say what would be left in the aftermath, but you know: you had let go.

“ hey, whoa, you alright there? " malik + arani
Arani hadn’t seen color in years. Everything was black like oil and brown like mud, white like smog and grey like metal. At the present, she couldn’t see much of anything no matter what the hue. She held her eyes tightly shut so to avoid the spinning. Her left hand held her upright, clinging to a protruding sheet of metal from the shanty-like dive-bar in the lower quadrant of the Reva oasis. She swayed left and right and left again, each motion stressing the muscles in her hands a little tighter.
One too many space bombs… Two too many space bombs… Space many bombs too many getting dizzy…
Her chest heaved and onto the stinking ground came what she assumed was the last shot of liquor the bartender had served. That was the last of it, Arani felt. She was only nineteen and already a master at drinking. If the dents in the metal siding could talk, they would tell tales of the many moons which Arani had spent fighting in this dingy corner of the galaxy–whether that was fighting the urge to vomit or the temptation for another drink or the man in the bar who claimed to know more about engines than she. This was an alley for fighting alright.
She just hoped that no one would come and–
“–hey, whoa, you alright there?”
Her eyes shot open to take in the sight of the sickly creation below, and when she turned to stand up straight, she noticed just how tightly she had been clutching the building that was less of a wall and more of a shard of metal protruding from the wall. Arani finally saw color; it was crimson red and dripping down her inner arm from a deep incision through the palm of her left hand.
“I said are you alright?”
She whipped some of the blood from her arm onto the ground. The underbelly of the galaxy was rich with Emos DNA. Arani ripped the sleeve off of her ratty t-shirt (she vaguely remembered stealing it off a sleeping homeless scavenger about a week ago) to tie around her self-inflicted injury. “Peachy,” she mumbled with a shred of the fabric hanging from her mouth as she performed her own repair.
“Do you need some help?” He continued. For acting so concerned about her state, Arani couldn’t help but feel as though he was performing rather than authenticating the concerned citizen. To assess her foe, her eyes rose slowly from her own broken body to see not a citizen, but a soldier. Foe indeed. She adjusted her cut-up shirt, which she now realized was damp with liquor and probably slightly translucent. Arani felt little affection for soldiers (any authority figure really). As a daughter of the lower-end, no badge or big title had ever helped her. The only law she knew was this: if you spill a man’s drink, you buy him another.
“No.” She was sharp.
“You’re bleeding and…” he looked behind her at the mess she had made. When Arani turned her neck to look too, she noticed a freshly broken bottle next to her.
“–and patched up.” She nodded assuredly and held up her hand. Blood was seeping through the makeshift bandage, but it would dry eventually. All wounds closed eventually. Or they got infected and she would die. With that, Arani took a step forward and when he refused to move out of her way, she patted him on the cheek. Bold move with a stranger she had never met before, let alone one who probably had the power to make her life very difficult. But Arani was a bold girl. She was a few steps away from him when he reached up to feel the specks of blood left on his clean-shaved jawline.
“Hey!”
“Hey!” She called back with the assonance of a goodbye.
“Where do you think you’re going?”
“Anywhere but this alley–” she felt him grab her hand and whisk her around. If Arani weren’t still slightly dizzy, she would have clocked him right then and there. Her eyes stretched wide open to gain balance in her new position. When they readjusted she saw that he held her bloodied wrist with a hand sheathed in the black leather glove of a Quasar soldier. If she hadn’t felt sick before, she did now. In her mind she recalled the images of her homeland burned to ashes, children (like her) screaming in the rubble, guns firing into windows, streets littered with keepsakes of families once kept in tact despite the weight of poverty, starvation, and crime.
She spit sharply into his face.
He shoved her up against the wall.
She kneed him where it counted.
He yanked her down onto the ground.
She wrapped her legs around his holstered waist.
He dropped down onto her.
She kissed him roughly on the mouth.
He slipped her wrist from his clutch.
She rolled on top of him.
He arched his neck upward.
She jumped from the ground and ran off into the underbelly.
An acquaintance was made.
THE INFINITE WASTELAND
There, at the throat of the stars, is the lawless, infinite unknown. All at once, it carries the rustle of the solar wind, the tremors deep in one’s body. In the thick of the abyss, there is the sound of a vague uneasiness: not knowing what the badlands will offer, not knowing what can be cultivated from its sandy reserves and untrammeled savagery. And as you chase the mantras of an intergalactic manifest destiny, you wonder of what you left back on Earth.

OOC | Dex & the Emoses
Dex could absolutely be a ptoential buyer from the Emoses! He’s always after things he can use to 1) keep his vehicle/home running or 2) fuck with the Quasars in any way possible so yeah. That being said, he doesn’t have much - if any - money, so there’s that hahaha
I like this!
Furthermore (and this is just ~throwing out ideas as always~), what if Dex was one of the people/the person who kind of forced Arani to confront the political turmoil of their society? Obviously, she hates the Quasars, but she’s really self-absorbed and doesn’t feel like she owes the world anything since the world hasn’t done anything for her, so she doesn’t see the point in aiding the political unrest... BUT she still hates the Quasars. She just embodies that in snappy comments and brooding behind a welding mask.
But if Dex already knows Arani and her sister and that they don’t like the Quasars via their interactions trading metal goods and such, maybe he eventually requests their services for more ~noble~ tasks? Idk what kind of things you were planning on having Dex do re: “whatever he can to foil plans the Quasars have”, but Arani could eventually get invovled.
I’m not saying I would be great, but I would be better.
ooc / malick + arani
volunteers malick for one of those dudes that arani’s robbed.
Tension!!!!! Was Malick (now idk how to spell his name lololol) working for the Quasar army when they fucked up Arvor? If so, I can tell you exactly why Arani robbed him blind. CAUSE HE KILLED HER FAMILY~~ If not, he still joined the ranks of the people who did. She left Arvor with Akiva pretty soon after it was destroyed, so we’d have to figure out when/where they met up to give her the chance to fuck Malik up but
I like this. I like this a lot. Arani isn’t good at dealing her with feelings, especially re: Arvor’s destruction and the Quasars. And Malik is going through some serious lifestyle changes re: the same things. They could seriously have some impact on each other ideologically.
“That’s nothing a little grease won’t fix.”
Name: Arani Emos Nicknames: Nimo Age: 27 DOB: July 7th Home Planet: Arvor; Currently Traveler Occupation: Svanger/Thief
Relationships: Akiva Emos (sister)
Classifications:
Slytherin
Extrovert
Neutral Evil
ENTJ
Leo
Traits: Unambitious, illiterate, cunning, brutish, quick thinking, skillful, messy, undependable, efficient, satisfied, impolite, faithful, scrupulous, venturesome, unaffectionate, greedy, bossy, dishonest, self assured, prideful
History:
Arani grew up in a low income, urban neighborhood on Arvor. She usually dragged her sister along with her everywhere she went. Arani will tell you it was to show off all the cool things she could do (like fuse together sheet metal with a homemade blow torch or steal food from the corner convenience store), but it was partially to keep in eye on Akiva as well.
They didn’t have a very stable home life, mostly attributed to the consistent financial worries that plagued her parents’ minds. Her parents were rarely home, because they each worked multiple jobs, leaving Arani in charge of herself and Akiva.
Arani is dyslexic and has ADHD. Needless to say, school was not her favorite past time. She’s almost completely illiterate due to the fact that she frequently skipped class without her parents’ knowledge. (They had other things to worry about. Like putting food on the table.)
Her parents were killed when the Quasars ransacked Arvor. She isn’t a big fan of their family, and is openly rebellious of their rule. Arani doesn’t worry about anyone except herself, though, so she doesn’t do much on the part of collective political organization.
She left Arvor with Akiva as soon as she could after the destruction of her home planet. Since then, she’s been utilizing her only known skills to survive: she steals and lies and scavenges.
She doesn’t have many ambitions passed surviving the day. Tbh that’s hard enough, so she can’t focus on much else.
She’s protective of herself, her leather jacket, her antique cordless drill, and Akiva.
Tbh she’s a 12 year old boy. She likes playing in the dirt and grease.
Wanted Plots:
Hey Arvor! plot.
Sexytime mechanic loverboy. Arani travels all over the place and I feel like there should be one guy who she crosses paths with and they’ve known each other for a really long time and they’re kind of like the only stable thing in each other’s lives. I’m thinking he would also be a part of the raggamuffin/scavenger/pirate/thief/etc. community of people who are just kind of getting by. The level of sexuality vs. sentimentality in the relationship is up in the air at this point. I don’t think Arani is quite a maneater like some ~badass mechanic-y chicks are~. Whatever. Talk to me. I’m interested in expanding her sex life
Bounty hunter. Arani has been living the life of thief and a scammer for nearly sixteen years now. She’s smart, but I’m sure she’s run into trouble a time or two.
Likewise I’m looking for people she has scammed and/or people looking to employ her. Arani is kind of an odd job re: metal and black market goods. She’s made somewhat of a name for herself over her time living in the underbelly of the galaxy... maybe just on the virtue that she’s a hottie scammer instead of a beer bellied alien. Malik Cardy
Interplanetary drinking buddies. I feel like Arani may be developing/has developed a bit of an alcohol problem.
Anti-Quasar revolutionaries. I don’t think Arani really cares who has the throne as long as it’s not a Quasar. It’s pretty selfish and disconnected from any socio-political rebellion. However, she knows her way around the galaxy’s underground community and she deals with a lot of weapons dealers (probably), so she would actually be a good aid to have... as long as someone could get her to care about anyone except herself and Akiva.
ooc: hey arvor! plot
I’m thinking Arani grew up in one of the poorer parts of Arvor (which probably is most of it... urbanization ammiright). Anyways, wouldn’t it be just sad and wonderful if before the Quasars came along there was a group of rugrat kiddos running around the city while their parents tried to make a living wage? Arani, herself, doesn’t spend time in Arvor anymore, because being on the home planet where her family was killed is too painful. I’m guessing she took off with Akiva as soon as possible after the destruction of Arvor... but she was eleven years old, so it may have taken a while.
Anways, I went through the character list and found some people around her age and social status and such who I think could be a part of this group. They are:
Jania Duron
Dathnaeya Lone
Obron Melvar
Zayne Meriet
Alessandra Tate
Rik Tharand
Mya Calway
Jax Peerce
They’ve all taken v. different paths since the destruction (prostitute, gambler, waitress, smuggler, etc.). My vision of this is that they were all really close as kids, kind of like a ~breakfast club~ assortment of lowerclass Arvorians who all head to deal with the loss of their stable home planet in different ways. We could do some crazy/sad/cool reunion type thing too if they’ve lost touch w/ each other.
@everyone!!! This idea is directed at everyone tbh, not just the mentioned characters. Those were just the people I thought could fit into this easily, but seriously if you have a kiddo who you’re not doing anything with or whose life you want to complicate more, lemme know. :)))
ooc: androsni
Since Dorn isn’t taken yet, I’m directing this at you, beautiful Jenn. I could definitely see Arani partaking in the Legasi’s illegal weapons business. I have this running theory, however, that she hasn’t returned to Arvor since the year that Quasars took over. (This isn’t set in stone thought.) Maybe Andros could convince her to come back? Like he hears about her smuggling/scavenging/metalwork/etc. abilities and thinks she could be of use to his family business? Maybe bringing her on board is something that helps Dorn see that his son is serious about the family business?
Plus, I could also see Arani getting involved with this trade as something that might hurt her relationship with her sister since Akiva has always been more ~philanthropic~ and less inclined toward cunning behavior if it lacks moral integrity.
Thoughts? Kisses? Chocolate?
ENTJs enjoy making plans and carrying them out. They make great leaders, but have trouble not being objective and accounting for emotions. They are fact-driven and good at highlighting inefficiencies. (x)

Recalling somewhat from our brief text conversation about these two...
Both Arani and Rik...
were orphaned
have greasy mechanic aesthetics
scavange(d at some point in their life)
are both just trying to get by
I def. think we should give these two a long history, and naturally (because I’m me), I’m getting sad vibes from them. Here’s a possibility: they could have kind of grown up together. Arani was orphaned when she was eleven. I don’t know relative to that moment that Rik was orphaned but... Maybe they kinda teamed up for a while? I just watched Les Mis with my roommate, so of course I’m getting barricade imagery of these three (Arani, Akiva, and Rik) ragga-a-muffins running around, just trying to survive the day. Insert all the moments of being an adolescent and then a teenager together. Fast forward to Rik meeting Owen. Why did Rik go with Owen, but not Arani? How could Rik leave her? Did he not have a choice? Did they get split up? IDK!!!! HELP CHAOS
Depending what we decide went on there, there are a lot of possible routes their relationship went and whether or not they have stayed in touch. But we mostly talked about what they would be like now aka Arani selling Rik space junk (I forgot about that until now... wandering brain...)
I threw out a major element of their relationship, so I’m fearful of pitching much more incase what’s written above doesn’t work with your vision of Rik. Regardless, these two are cool. I foresee lots of epic moments, probably involving sheet metal, thievery, wavering morals, and grease.
