I just saw fanart someone else made with this but now i cant stop thinking about it and I want to share it with you. You know how mark does the bit of jingling keys to the viewers pay attention?...what if simon did this unironically to grace.
Simon is trying to talk to Grace about something but Ryland keeps turning his attention away. Grace isnt doing it on purpose but hes sleep deprived and he was Just working on something and locked in for hours straight. And when youre That locked into something and suddenly it gets interrupted its hard to stop turning your attention back to it to continue.
Simon gets fed up because he keeps having to snap Ryland back into paying attention. Maybe he wants to yell and scold ryland but he hates yelling. So he does something a little impulsive and maybe slightly condescending (because hes fed up and i can see someone ignoring him even if on accident being a pet peeve of his) and grabs eridian body jewelry/ornaments that were custom made for the human body that was lying around. Im envisioning like a necklace or bracelet and Simon jingles it in front of Ryland's face and he immediately does start paying back attention to Simon.
I can see both of them having to pause for a good second or two to mentally acknowledge that 'wait what just happened? And why did it work?'. Ryland immediately feels embarrassed, kinda annoyed, and guilty. Simon is amused, also kinda annoyed it worked, but now also kinda smug.
Every time simon uses the body jewelry as a shiny loud thing to get graces attention Grace immediately gets embarrassed and annoyed because he feels bullied by simons smug look but doesnt stop simon from doing it Because It Unfortunately Works Very Well. It would also cause Grace to usually pay fully attention to simon so the man doesnt have to use the Jingle Jingle method Again because Grace is a Grown Man he Doesnt Need It. (aka us gets very very embarrassed and flustered that it works so well it may become a slightly Pavlov response at some point.)
