Okay no but like, I am still SO ENAMORED by this transition y’all, ‘cause when Dorothy opens the door of the house onto the colors of Oz, the inside of the house is still sepia toned. And they did that by literally making the interior and the costume and everything SEPIA TONED. You had a double for Judy Garland in a specifically-created sepia-toned dress, in a sepia-toned set, opening the door, backing out of frame, and then the Dorothy that steps back into frame is Judy Garland in her full color costume and makeup, stepping out into the color set.

Y’all it’s such a GREAT EFFECT, and this was before computer effects and green screen, it was all practical and yeah it feels like nothing now, but at the time, man, not only was technicolor new, but I’m pretty sure no other movie had done a transition out of b/w or sepia into color, and even knowing it was a technicolor film, that must have just been fucking wild to see! It still is wild to see!! It’s so good.

The technique of switching between double and main actor without an edit is called a Texas Switch and it's still used today, it's very neat to have something so simple yet tricky persist pretty much just because it genuinely looks better to do it with timing than with editing.

I always see USAmericans online gush over French people in protests. "Oh wow they really know how to protest! They sure are good!". But they never apply what they see to their own protests. Protesting isn't just "showing up at a place, chant catchy gotchas and taking selfies". If a protest can be ignored by the people whom you're protesting against, it's pretty much useless. A good protest is a protest that disrupts the economy, breaks things, makes non-participants aware and annoyed at the actions, and forces the people you're protesting against to take a stance (be it backing down -- yippee! or address it one way or another). You're not going to make things move in your direction if your idea of a protest is standing there like a mannequin.

I know it's scary. I know it's dangerous. That's the point. Be as safe as you can, of course (& there are great posts online that helps you properly prepare for a protest). But you will not bring meaningful change by being peaceful and law-abiding. Especially in YOUR situation where you're protesting the law & the government that makes it.

This is 100% true, the war is over but nothing has changed, only the killing has stopped but our suffering continues with regards to water and food. In Super Mario Galaxy, Spring Mario can normally never sleep, as he always keeps bouncing in that form even if no input is made, and he cannot enter a sleep state while moving.

A glitch exists that allows Spring Mario to stand still without bouncing, activated by touching both a wall and a Gearmo on the same frame. However, performing it reveals that even then he does not sleep, as the code for the Spring Mario state explicitly forbids it.

By combining the glitch with a small modification to the code to force Spring Mario to go to sleep, it becomes apparent that the code doesn't merely never call the sleep function for Spring Mario, but doesn't even define it in the first place.

This leads to a visual glitch when it tries to load undefined sleepy eye textures, causing his eyes to appear completely black instead.
