Given your social media suggests you know a few other well known trans people socially and I imagine professionally even more from creative projects and advocacy work, do you get starstruck when you meet other well known trans people or has that sorta worn off?

Not really, I'm not the sort of person who really gets starstruck apart from certain very specific people. I met Arin Hanson the other night at the red carpet for Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act and I was starstruck then lmao cause I loved his stuff when I was a kid, but turns out he's super chill and lovely and was also a fan of my work, so

I was wondering, do you need to know much about Game of Thrones to enjoy House of the Dragon? When you were on TF recently I was really interested in the way you described your character (I could use some cathartic rage right now) but I've also not experienced any GoT media before at all (apart from a GoT themed pinball table which exists, apparently)

I've never seen Game of Thrones! House of the Dragon is set 200 years before GoT so you don't need to know any of it. Basically the set up is...

Once Upon A Time there was a civil war where both sides have dragons. Dragons are like A-bombs, everybody wants them and there's an arms race to control the biggest. Dragons are also meant to be sacred and kinda like living gods: you'd have to be a real badass (or have a bigger dragon) to actually kill one. And if you were just a regular dragonless human walking around?! Hoo buddy! You'd have to be CUh-RAzy to even try to slay one!

The civil war is between two branches of the same big royal family so there's a lot of dramaaaaaa (and occasional incest) going on. Each side has scheming viziers and dirty tricks and tense relationships with the working class ordinary folks of the realm.

One side has a woman as a leader (Queen Rhaenyra, played by Emma) and ooooo that's bad, because women are weak and they suck! So the other side are like "Fuck it we'll be in charge because we have MEN and DUDES!" (even though their dudes suck and can't stop fighting each other and having sex with people they shouldn't). Matt (Smith) plays a character called Daemon who's Rhaenyra's partner in crime and he's like "Oooo I'm Matt Daemon and I'm brooding and evil maybe."

Anyway, shit gets out of hand in Seasons 1 and 2, atrocities and heroes on both sides, etc etc. Until at the end of Season 2 one of the sides in the civil war tries to get help from some dudes from another country. Those dudes are pirates, led by an insane polyamorous cannibal lesbian pirate woman named Sharako Lohar (played by me), who is the only person in the world who smiles or has fun. She has a ship called The Bitchfist and she's like "Sure I'll help you! I definitely don't have my own agenda and I can be trusted around weapons!"

Season 2 ended with her taking her navy to sail into the civil war and fuck shit up, and that's where Season 3 will begin!

But yeah I've never seen Thrones. I deliberately didn't watch it before my audition; I limited myself to a couple of episodes of HOTD because I didn't want to give them something they'd seen already. That turned out to be a good move because as soon as I got into the recalls Ryan said "This character is something we've never seen before," and I was like, "Perfect!"

I get a lot of people who just want to say hello and thank you;

a lot of people who are like "Hey I want to draw your attention to [ALBUM/MOVIE/THING]";

a fair few inappropriately personal questions;

a LOT of people who clearly just want to send me something but don't really have anything coherent to say;

and some questions that are cool and interesting about a whole bunch of different topics

I answer maybe 10% of them

How similar is your public persona to what you're actually like when the cameras are off?

You've mentioned on here before that the YouTube series is a more professional version of you and that tumblr is a bit more unvarnished, thinking the same with podcast interviews you've done.

I'm probably too close to the source material, so to speak, to answer. You'd have to ask people who know me really well. Also I'm a Gemini Moon so I guess even they might have differing opinions.
