Imagine, IMAGINE saying this about Toni Morrison. Imagine being told that you will never be famous if you focus on Black characters, that your talent is wasted on writing about the experiences of people that look like you. That it's "not reality" to do so.

OH WAIT- this is a current reality 🤣 anyone who has ever written original fiction or fanfiction or comics or anything centering a Black character has understood this message before, implicitly: if you do not have central white characters, if you do not bring up *our* perspective, we will not promote you. We will not support you. You will go unsung. Your talents are "too good" to "waste" on Black characters.

I just wrote a paper about this recently and yeah. A great deal of this is white entitlement. Toni Morrison herself said she's not writing for anyone but Black people. That is the demographic she centered and refused to compromise on that. And that pisses a lot of white critics and so-called literati off because they can't deny her impact as an author and realistically discredit her in the same breath without looking wildly racist. It's why she was always taking a scalpel to white supremacy in her works and her interviews.

everytime i’ve gone out this year which has been a handful , it’s all felt the same apart from two different occasions , just dreadfully empty .Theres an impulsive need to do things to chase the same patterns from previous years so i have something to look back on. i just hope when i do i have lot more grace for current me because I’ve floated aimlessly all year
