A Series of buildings intimately related with the surrounding rich natural environment. The built architecture is a realisation of the holistic intentions and alternative way of life of the clients. The architecture object, profoundly integrated in the natural context, provide a powerful spiritual experience of calm, intimacy, meditation and retreat. Instead of a single construction condensing the entire program, the adopted strategy aimed to spread the facilities through separated buildings along the site, adapting itself to the existing natural conditions, respecting and enhancing its values. Thus providing a more rich living experience, full of distinct moments and sensations

Just playing around with quick sketchy photo-montages. I'm just trying to convey the general 'feel' of my scheme.
model experimentation
Beaux-art planning
Building massings, more to scale. Site plan, with buildings and then with paths..
I am just trying to experiment with different compositions. before resolving a more complex series of paths, staircases and buildings.
Zoning.
I've been thinking about building shapes and scales. However, I am almost certain many of these will change.
Overlaying master-planning massing.
Quick diagrammatic sketches showing masterplanning development.
The typography of the site, created problems whilst masterplanning. later through models you can see the contours and level changes. Naturally creating views and vantage points between Rochester Cathedral and Castle seemed important to me, as well as defining Public-student-private spaces across the site. I really wanted these spaces to feel like you're in Kent, in a meadow, discovering and exploring. where as now, the site is completely clear. However, much of the site is/was a graveyard, so building on these spaces seemed completely unethical.
1. Views between the Cathedral - Castle 2. Using some concepts from Beaux art planning i wanted to create pavilions, or activity nodes which can define these spaces and draw people to and away.
3. & 4. the area where the cathedral sits is around 8m higher than ground level of the site so ideas of connecting and inhabiting the upper levels, outside of the site boundary was a necessary step. perhaps with a connecting external staircase,
5. To pedestrianise the whole site. it seemed vulgar that cars, lorries and vans were driving past a cathedral. In order for my scheme to be successful, cars need to be diverted around the site.
6. this were where most of the bodies lie, although they are around most of the site. it was imperative to keep this area clear.
