imo, the way Merle visibly loses all respect for the Governor so FAST isn't talked about enough

like???Merle obviously has such a taste for violence and conflict, and is highkey sexist, with that being said, after seeing the way the Governor assaulted Maggie, Merle never looks at him the same way and nobody talks about that

the absolute "ok what is your fucking problem" look on Merle's face when seeing the aftermath of the Governor's bullshit here is so telling. Merle has fucked up morals, but he has morals, the Governor doesn't have any morals. in a way that reminds me of how abysmal Merle's introduction was, yet it was Shane that ended up being the big bad of the group

honestly i lowkey think his loss of respect started as soon as the Governor said he'd "take care" of things with Maggie. Merle may be a big mouthed trouble maker, but he's not stupid. he knew exactly what shit was gonna happen as soon as the Governor showed any interest in being in Maggie's presence

mans was absolutely pondering why tf he's even here or under the command of a man like the Governor. Merle ain't a saint but he can certainly recognize evil
