Diamonds in the Rough

White sighs as she steps out of the elevator to the Pride Ring. She didn't particularly like coming here. It's where she spawned in Hell and where she is the most gawked at.
Even with her dulled gray skin, her white hair, eyes, and gem stood out among Hell's denizens, especially sinners. Her gem was cracked but still sparkled as it did in life. Dark gray crack marks branched from White's gem to cover her entire body.
White uses her magic to summon a holo screen similar to the ones she'd used on Homeworld. She's trying to find the warehouse to which her shipment had accidentally been sent. It's a minor setback, and the owner wants White herself there to make sure nobody steals the package.
White ignores the wolf-whistling and head-turned as she walks down the busy streets of Pentagram City, her heels clacking on the sidewalk.
White was wearingΒ thisΒ dress, with matching sleeves on her arms and a fur wrap that was colored like her old cape. White knew she was attracting attention but knew nobody would mess with her due to the Asmodeus tattoo on her left shoulder, showing that she worked and/or belonged to the King of Lust.
She only slow her walk once a familiar figure passes through her peripheral vision. She whirls around to look at the gem before her.
"...Pink?"
Rose couldn't help herself, tears began to gently trickle down her cheeks. All she had ever wanted was to be heard, loved... And here she was, beside White Diamond, feeling more loved by her now that she had ever felt in life.
She smiled at the other Gem, still crying. She wiped her eyes and sniffled lightly.
β You don't know how long I have wanted to hear those words... I- I know, in your own ways, you all DID love me... I don't want to take away from that... But this is something I dreamt of for centuries. β
β It seems that you've grown just as much, if not more than I have since those days... Can I say that I am just... So proud? β
White smiles, "Thank you, Rose. It took me a while, but I got there,"
White continues, "Steven ended up doing great things, Rose. You'd be so proud of him. He freed all of gemkind, stopped the colonization, and made a school on Earth so Gems could learn how to interact and live on the planet! Yellow dismantled her armies, Blue never shatters, and I never used my powers on others. It wasβ¦great!"
White then frowns, "But then Steven starting actingβ¦off. Stressed out. I don't have the full story, but some of the problems we diamond left behind; your pearl, Spinel, mine, Yellow, Blue, and Steven's new roles. It all weighed down on him,"
White looks at Rose, "From what I could tell, he started to unlock your more⦠destructive powers. Screams that could crack the walls, swelling and glowing pink, superspeed, diamond eyes, the whole set,"
White sighs, "Everyone tried to help him. But he kept shutting us out. Spiraling further and further out of control until...he ended up...corrupting himself,"
She gave a horrified, worried look. Every bad thing she had ever done... Everything her family had done. The consequences... She couldn't have ever imagined that Steven would corrupt... But... Maybe she could. She tried so hard to be a better Gem... But in giving herself up for him to live... She had abandoned him and left him with her mess to clean... It's no wonder he became corrupted.
β I didn't want this for him... I didn't want him to suffer in my wake... I- I failed. As a Gem, as a leader, and... I failed as a mother. β
She looked down at her hands and stifled a growl, clenching them tightly. She wanted to lash out in pain, to make her self-loathing known. She wanted to hurt. Not White β she wanted to hurt herself. To scream, to slam things around, to kick and punch and break things. She wanted to throw a tantrum.
But she didn't. She just sat there, staring at her clenched fists, repeatedly muttering self-destructive insults to herself. It was as though she wasn't totally herself... It was as though something inside had finally taken over. She needed to snap out of it before she made things worse. But how could she?
