The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) dir. Peter Jackson
Pipe smoking in The Lord of the Rings (2001-2003)
It’s been a while.
Finished my new drawing of dragon-sickness Thorin. :)
1, 6, and 13 for the get to know me asks!!
1. What were your summers like as a kid?
When I was a kid, summers were always the best time of the year. I loved the sunshine and the flora that would grow in my backyard. I remembered, as a kid, wandering off into my garden and other forest-y areas in my neighborhood as if I was on some quest or adventure. I would definitely say summers as a kid were probably my favorite memories.
6. What’s your favorite outfit?
Wow, this is going to be a bit hard. Hmmmm... I think my favorite outfit is this really cute green and pink tank top that I got at Aries last summer along with pairing high waisted jeans from American Eagle and a sweater from H&M. For shoes, with that outfit, I would usually wear Bobs (knock off brand of Toms). For accessories, I would usually wear some kind of sliver necklace - either a choker, my tree of Gondor necklace, or my Evenstar replica necklace. But yeah! I think that's my favorite look/outfit that I would wear when I feel really good about myself.
13. Bright colors or neutral tones?
Both?? I think it really depends on the aesthetic goal. I really like bright colors like spring or summer and neutral tones for autumn and winter.
Thanks for these asks!

“‘Rivendell’ said Frodo. ‘Very good: I will go east, and I will make for Rivendell…’ He spoke lightly, but his heart was moved suddenly with a desire to see the house of Elrond Halfelven, and breathe the air of that deep valley where many of the Fair Folk still dwelt in peace.”
my line has ended!
Races of the legendarium: Dwarves
“Since they were to come in the days of the power of Melkor, Aulë made the dwarves strong to endure. Therefore they are stone-hard, stubborn, fast in friendship and in enmity, and they suffer toil and hunger and hurt of body more hardily than all other speaking peoples; and they live long, far beyond the span of Men, yet not forever.”
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) Dir. Peter Jackson
For those who have been hearing/reading articles and posts by Tolkien fans of why they are not watching Amazon's "Rings of Power", I would highly recommend you all to watch this video. This is my last time mentioning Amazon's LOTR fanfiction show but this video was a good look from not only a fan of Tolkien but someone who previously worked a bit on Amazon's show before leaving. I highly recommend people to watch it.
How did the Lord of the Rings prequel not respect the source material if so far we basically know nothing about it? And people main complaints are about the fact that the cast is not completely made up of white people?
One word: appropriation.
The executive/producers of Rings of Power made it clear they're adapting Tolkien's work to "reflect what the world actually looks like" when the source material clearly says otherwise. Hell, Amazon is not even trying to follow the plot of any particular Tolkien piece.
For example, this is supposed to Galadriel.
Yes that Galadriel, who is incredibly powerful, but didn't put on armor in fight in any battle in the books. Galadriel's power was tied to her magic, statemanship and leadership, not her sword arm.
If the writers wanted a "warrior princess" type character they could have gone with Gondorian shieldmaidens instead of appropriating Tolkien's signature character like Galadriel into something other than what Tolkien wrote. You’re not actually writing, a Lord of the Rings story or adapting Tolkien’s work. Amazon is taking Tolkien's name and setting, and writing their own story in it; essentially wrapping their idea in the blanket of his and hoping that it can be sold using his name and hard work.
That's appropriation.
When TV writers try to ‘do their own thing’ beyond what the original authors wrote, the first thing to look for is how closely the new writers emulate the source material. Peter Jackson’s work wasn’t a one-to-one ratio from the books to the screen, but the essence of it was there. Frodo was very much still Frodo at his core, Gandalf looked the way he was described in the books, and the setting and plot matched most of what the novels described.
Essentially, The Rings of Power is someone’s fantasy story with Tolkien’s setting and character names slapped onto it. It’s not Middle-Earth as Tolkien wrote it, it’s Tolkiens’ work as someone else wants it to be for themselves.
That’s appropriation.
There is nothing wrong with having a fantasy story and setting with elves who look black, dwarves without beards, or female elves in armor; but have the courage to put your own label on it and not take someone else’s work to sell your own.
The Witcher is a fairly good example of a show organically including more diversity than was in the source material, without ruining the plot by being respectful of the source material.
For those who are wondering about my thoughts about Amazon's Rings of Power, I will simply answer this quickly: I will not watch it.
First and foremost; diversity is not a problem whatsoever. I really do not care about the casting choices as long as they fit the character by personality and what J.R.R Tolkien would envision. What does bother me is that Amazon casts people for characters that are not canon and characters (like Hobbits) that didn't exist yet in the Second Age where this show takes place. If you don't follow the lore or even the basics of the timeline, then I know it's something not worth watching.
What also bothers me is that the characterization of canon characters that they are portraying is far off from the source material. Galadriel was not "piss and vinegar" and she was not a commander of an army. She, at that time, became the Lady of Lorien along with her husband Celeborn. Speaking of Celeborn; Where in Mando's Halls is he???? Also, Elrond was not "politically ambitious". He was a healer and lore-master when he lived in Lindon with Gil-Galad.
There are more reasons why I do not trust Amazon with this series but, importantly, I want to say this: AMAZON DOES NOT HAVE THE RIGHTS TO THE SILMARILLION. They only have the rights to LOTR and The Hobbit along with the appendices. With those rights, they do not have enough information and lore to actually make a series about the Second Age period. Not only is this basically Amazon being out of its depth with what they want and can do, but it basically shows that they do not care about the lore and Tolkien's integrity. Amazon fired or forcedly booted out an actual Tolkien scholars like Tom Shippey. Tom was one of THE best experts to help with the LOTR and Hobbit movies. Booting him out was the biggest mistake in my opinion.
Lastly, Amazon calling people out who have valid criticism "racist" and even calling Tolkien a "racist" is where I draw the line. If you insult people who simply care deeply about how Tolkien's works are treated, then it shows the world that you are in the wrong. I don't care what political or even religious stand points you have, what I do care is how J.R.R. Tolkien's works and his reputation/integrity are treated. If you care about this despite how political or religious you are, then I would gladly call you a friend through the love of the stories of Middle-Earth.
Overall, if you are planning to watch Amazon's show: go ahead. I can't control that nor do I want to. But simply for me, I am content with the books and what PJ has given us. So, it's a "no-watch" Amazon for me.

A Sudden Outcry: The Tolkien Estate and Fanworks
When the Tolkien Estate recently presented their newly revamped website, it did not take fans long to see past the new artwork and other features to find that the Tolkien Estate has a policy on fanworks. The past several days have seen a whirl of discussion about what it all means that can be distilled down to a single burning question:
Did the Tolkien Estate just ban fanworks?
In short, no, the Tolkien Estate did not just ban fanworks. The fanworks you have posted, are in the middle of creating, or are even thinking about creating are not affected by what the Estate says on their website.
The longer answer depends on if you're interested in the just or the ban part of that question (or maybe both!). While the following is not legal advice, we hope it will lessen the worry that the existence of fanworks is in jeopardy. As always, bear in mind that laws vary from country to country. If you have specific concerns, the Organization for Transformative Works' legal committee, while unable to give legal advice, can answer questions you might have.
The History of the Tolkien Estate and Fanworks
For the majority of its existence, the Tolkien Estate website has addressed fanworks in its FAQ. The Tolkien Estate opened its website in 2006, and for its first year, it was little more than a landing page with information on the (then) new book The Children of Húrin. Around April 2007, the site expanded considerably, and fanworks were addressed for the first time:
After reading this, my heart is a bit at peace now. To be honest, I was one of the few who freaked out a bit and archived my stories out of the public domain on fanfiction websites. With knowing that if I and others want to write stories for free with no commercializing, commissioning, or links to any "pay me pls" websites; then I am for sure not in the wrong (legally) in the topic of fan-made works that are for free.
I will try my best and be careful with what I post and what I mention for future legendarium stories. But I am glad to know that these "threats" that the Tolkien Estate made should not affect my love for writing inspired Middle-Earth stories that I do for free. I hope people read this article because it's very useful.

Hey everyone, I have some really sad news. I may to unpublish my LOTR story "RAINA" at the time being. Due to the new and improvised rules on the Tolkien Estate regarding fanfiction, I don't want to be sued by the estate. know that this is highly unlikely due to the millions of Lord of the Rings fanfiction out there, but I don't want to take the chance. I'm very sorry...
