Summary: One night. That's all it takes for everything to change, for them to slip past the point of no return. When Angel comes home from a particularly hard time at the studio, Husk's care fans the flames of what they've been trying to ignore.
every time i start to feel cringe for being too deep in the hyperfixation i remember the intense depression i have waded through and have to remind myself that enjoyment is fleeting (so grab it with both hands), and life is for loving (so hold that love close), and if anyone thinks iām cringe they must not be having a very good time (and i hope they can find a good time soon).
i wanna talk about why i prefer meatbun's writing over MXTX (no hate to MXTX ofc) i know that both of them have completely different styles but i can't help but compare them. please keep in mind that you can read whatever you want and this post is not made to judge anyone. its simply my thoughts as an avid danmei reader.
i have read all of MXTX and meatbun's works and here are some things that i've observed.
first of all, meatbun's writing is literally ADDICTIVE. like what kind of drug does she put in her books??? i start reading the first chapter and i'm suddenly forty chapters through?? it is quite literally IMPOSSIBLE to put down the book. compared to that, i feel like every single MXTX book has taken a LONG time for me to read.
i finished erha (all 311 chapters + 49 extras) in 1 week, yuwu (all 7 volumes) in four days and bab in (254 chapters + 18 extras) in five days. but it took me 3 months to complete mdzs, 5 months for tgcf and svss.
secondly, meatbun focuses a LOT on emotional aspects than technical (idk if i framed this correctly). even the side characters have beautifully written, tragic backstories (murong chuyi my babyyyy) besides, the pining. GODDDD, the pining is soooo detailed, we get to read it from THEIR povs. in the chapters where mo ran was sick with fever and hallucinating chu wanning, when mo xi was thinking about gu mang, when he yu revealed that xie qingcheng was the only person in his life to ever make him feel like a human being and not a sick freak, when chu wanning was plagued with self-hatred bcs he could not even imagine that mo ran could ever reciprocate his feelings, when xie qingcheng thought he killed he yu and his heart had died with him, when gu mang's chest hurt to confess his love for mo xi bcs he was certain that no one would accept their relationshipāthis is YEARNING. to be able read this kind of DETAILED pining, the way they physically hurt bcs of how much they love each other.
i unfortunately fail to find anything of this sort in MXTX's works. like ofc we know that lan wangji yearned for wei wuxian for 13/16 years and hua cheng for xie lian for 800 years but WHERE IS THE YEARNING?? where is the devastation?? everything we get to know about lan wangji's condition after wei wuxian's death is through lan xichen outside the guanyin temple and some flashbacks in the last volume when they were fucking on that field. apart from that, NOTHING.
i need to FEEL the yearning, that is the only way i can actually be happy or emotionally connect when two characters finally get together. everything we get to know about hua cheng is through xie lian's memories or other people. we deserved a hua cheng POV. what a wasted potential. such an interesting character.
my point is, meatbun EXCELS at writing mutual pining which can only be possible when a writer chooses to narrate the story through dual POVs. she is also does a commendable job at making people feel for her characters, which makes me more emotionally invested in their journeys. this is the reason why, incase of mdzs i prefer the show over the book, bcs in the book it felt as though lan wangji just caught feelings for wei wuxian out of the blue. the show did a MUCH better job in potraying lan wangji's growing interest/love for wei wuxian.
in TGCF, i was quite honestly more captivated by shi qingxuan than hualian. i like xie lian, i really, really do, i cried while reading his past but i do feel the supporting characters were sooooo interesting and deserved more appearances. as for svss, i personally did not like it as much as i thought it would. the characters are all amazing and very dear to me but the story in itselt, the execution was IN MY OPINION very underwhelming. i did not like it. again, i like the characters very much, but i don't like the story.
i do once again want to clarify that i mean no disrespect to MXTX or her readers. The Untamed is the reason i got into the danmei at the first place, and hence, i hold mdzs very close to my heart. i've read some amazing retellings of mdzs and tgcf on ao3 which make little to no change in the main plot but offer dual povs, which i love.
having said this, it is undeniable that MXTX's works are definitely more suited for broader audience. her main characters all love each other in a way that is healthy (compared to meatbun couples) and i understand the popularity.
anyway, if you love heavy, heavy angst, political intrigue, friends to lovers to enemies to lovers, AMAZING side characters and want to bawl your eyes out, read remnants of filth/yuwu by meatbun doesn't eat meat! (all 7 volumes published by sevenseas. completed series.)
The thing is that sex scenes actually are incredible ways to explore character. People are at their most vulnerable during sex! The way they have sex says a lot of very interesting things about their desires, obviously, but also their psychology, their vulnerabilities, their hopes and fears, etc. It is completely insane to me to think that sex scenes have no value other than to sexually excite the audience. And even if their only value is to sexual excite the audience - SO WHAT?? A movie is supposed to excite and entertain you! Grow up!!!
A/N: These might piss some people off, but I really donāt care. Itās my account and if you donāt like what I have to say, youāre free to scroll and block me.
| HAZBIN HOTEL |
Genocide is not justified just because a few Sinners did unspeakable things when they were alive.
Charlie choosing to focus primarily on the Sinners rather than the imps and other hellborns makes sense.
Angel Dust is objectively not bad sexual assault representation. Trauma is a very complex issue and there is not a singular correct way to respond to it.
āPoisonā doesnāt romanticize/fetishize abuse. Using catchy pop music to help portray serious issues is a tale as old as time.
Valentino wasnāt āwoobifiedā in season two. All they did was show another side of him that exists, because abusers realistically do not act shitty to everyone around them 24/7. Humanizing Val doesnāt mean that the writers think heās a good person, or that they think what he does is okay.
Vox did not rape Alastor. Yes, forced voyeurism is a form of sexual assault, but not all sexual assault is rape. And no, what Vox did was not acceptable in any way, and the narrative explicitly shows that.
Voxās feelings surrounding Alastorās rejection were justified, but him holding onto that resentment for 70+ years was not healthy. Likewise, Alastor didnāt need to be so harsh in response to Voxās proposal.
Alastor is manipulating Charlie for his own gain.
Charlie and Vaggi are currently the healthiest couple in the show. Having flaws ā toxic.
Alastor is currently an antagonist, not a villain.
Vox and Velvette are just as bad as Valentino. They all enable each other and benefit from their respective actions.
Charlieās character did not regress in season two. She has always been shown to be naive, impulsive and quick to trust others without thinking. While difficult to watch, her downfall is integral to her character development.
Charlie is not a Mary-Sue. The people who say this have no clue what a Mary-Sue actually is. She has flaws, is constantly shown to be in the wrong, and almost everybody outside of the hotel dislikes her.
Angel going back to Val at the end of season two is not bad writing, nor does it mean that Angel is a static character. It is a realistic portrayal of the relationship between a victim and their abuser.
Someone liking Valentino does not mean they condone his actions or support what he does. He is a fictional character, and depiction doesnāt equal endorsement.
Valentino being pansexual has nothing to do with him being a rapist.
Alastor being canonically asexual does not mean he canāt be shipped with other characters or even have sex. No sexual attraction ā celibate.
Sera turning over a new leaf is a good thing, but what was it specifically about Pentious that made her want to stop exterminations? Had it been anyone else, would she have continued allowing genocide?
Rosie owning Alastorās soul doesnāt mean that RadioRose canāt be possible.
GuitarSpear being confirmed was pure fan-service.
CherriSnake and RadioStatic were also handled in a fanservice-y way.
Lucifer is trying to be a good dad, but his neurodivergence, PTSD, and religious trauma gets in the way.
Vaggi taking the āeā out of her name makes sense, I just wish we got to see her make that decision on screen.
The way Charlie, and everybody else, has treated Angel thus far contributed to him wanting to go back to his abuser.
Husk isnāt the only one affected by Angelās absence. Cherri has had to watch her best friend walk back to the man whoās hurt him over and over again, and having there be nothing she can do about it.
Charlie not killing Valentino in āMasqueradeā was the right thing to do. In addition to being grossly out of character for her, respecting Angelās autonomy in that moment was what she needed to do. Angel and Valentino are trauma-bonded, and abruptly bringing an end to their relationship without Angelās consent could result in catastrophe.
| HELLUVA BOSS |
Blitz was not entitled to Stolasās book. Stolas permitted him to use it for his business, which he didnāt need to use because he was already doing well, but he wanted to bring his business to Earth in order get more clients. In the Harvest Moon episode, Blitz says that the Grimoire is his easiest ticket to Earth, not the only one.
The Stolitz deal was not coercion. Sure, the way it started was questionable since Stolas literally proposed it when Blitz was being shot at, but he had opportunities to back out at any time. He didnāt, though, because he enjoyed having sex with Stolas.
Octavia is partially to blame for what happened in āSeeing Starsā. There was ample time to wait since they wouldnāt be seeing the stars until that evening. I know sheās a teenager and teenagers can be impulsive, but this incident wasnāt all on Stolas.
Moxxie being sexually assaulted is overlooked because heās a man. Verosika didnāt just make ākissy facesā at him, she touched him while he was telling her not to.
Verosika still feeling hurt from what Blitz did to her is valid, but throwing toxic parties dedicated to hating him isnāt helping.
Stolas being sexually assaulted is also overlooked because heās a man.
Stella being abusive is not retcon. If you paid attention to the show you can see that sheās been a nasty person since the start.
Stolas did not cheat. Both he and Stella were forced into an arranged marriage that neither of them wanted. She was only upset because Stolas slept with an imp. (āI would feel bad if I hurt you, but we both know I didnāt do that.ā)
Stolas did in fact face consequences for his actions. He lost his powers, his daughter, his palace, and his wealth all at once. He acknowledges his wrongdoings several times over the course of season two. In āAll 2 Uā, Stolas sings: āmaybe itās all on me for missing every sign and every glance and every turnā. Then during Sinsmas he says: āyou donāt need to feel sorry for me, all of this was my choiceā.
Octavia has a right to feel abandoned by Stolas. Heās been there for her since she was very young, and now in her mind, it seems as though her father is choosing a stranger over her.
Beelzebub being skinny instead of chubby, despite being the embodiment of gluttony, makes sense.
Loona is not a bad daughter. She has a fear of abandonment and trust issues due to living in a shelter for most of her life.
Neither Stolas nor Blitz were in the wrong during āWestern Energyā. Striker just happened to kidnap Stolas at a very inconvenient time. However, Blitz should have told Stolas that someone was trying to assassinate him.
Striker is a hypocrite for working with royalty while berating Blitz for basically doing the same thing.
Mammon was exploiting Fizzarolli.
Ozzie valuing consent while being the embodiment of lust makes sense.
Blitz is an asshole, but itās not entirely his fault. He was used and abused by his father for the majority of his childhood, and then accidentally started a fire which ended up killing his mother and disfiguring his best friend. Itās not an excuse for how he treats people, itās an explanation.
Barbie is valid for not wanting to talk to Blitz. Sheās asked him to leave her alone several times and he keeps crossing her boundaries instead of waiting for her to come to him.
āUnhappy Campersā is a realistic portrayal of happy couples having a spat.
Millie not being overjoyed about her pregnancy doesnāt mean she cheated on Moxxie. Not every married woman wants to be a mother, and thatās okay.
Helluva Boss focuses on racism, classism, love and different relationships.
Andrealphus is not incestuous towards his sister. He is just a closeted gay man who makes fun of Stella by telling her that being āhotā is the only thing she has going for her.
Stella is already made to be sympathetic by the fan base and the narrative of the show. She does not need to have a tragic backstory in order to exemplify that.
Sometimes women are evil just for the sake of being evil. Stella doesnāt require a laundry list of reasons for why she abuses her husband.
Blitz is considered a sex worker, considering the fact that he sleeps with Stolas in exchange for being able to use the Grimoire.
Nearly every single character in the Hellaverse is morally grey.
Who gave Angel the right to have shoulder freckles and why are they so cuteeee :')
this is officially an Angel Dust's shoulder freckles appreciation post. I love you, Angel Dust's shoulder freckles (also Angel in drag appreciation post bc he's unfairly pretty and it's the last time we get to see him happy this season)

What do you do when you know Husk and Angel will have their moment, reunite and reconcileā¦..eventually. The official merch is subtlety setting that up, but keeps breaking your HuskerDust heart each time while you wait for s3?
You roll up your sleeves and make your OWN HuskerDust merch to feed your delusions and tide you over until they do reunitešā¦and eventually tell the Vees to go fuck themselves š¤£šāØ
No sad Angel Dust, and especially no sad Husk here. Only two joyous Losers and their little piggie celebrating Pride in Hell together!
ācoming from a place of respectā there is nothing respectful about a comment like this. this is exactly why I say witch hunt, speculations and accusations harm the writing community as much as ai does, if not more.
I am not saying āyouāre an asshole if you think a fic is aiā. I have come across fics that I believe were ai-generated. but instead of asking (accusing) the authors, I make my own decisions whether Iāll continue reading for the benefit of the doubt or quietly exit the fics and look for something else to read.
because with every accusation like this, thereās always a chance of a genuine, innocent writer getting wrongly accused.
last but not least, fanfic writers do NOT owe you anything. they write for themselves and their own enjoyment. their ao3 accounts are their houses and they were kind enough to let you in their houses. for free. (you get to read things for free.) you donāt go into other peopleās houses and tell them āactually I think the way you decorate your room is sus. did you actually do it yourself or did you ask a robot to do it for you?ā. THEY šš» DONāT šš» OWE šš» YOU šš» ANYTHING. and I say this as someone who is not a fan of ai fics. if you donāt like what youāre seeing, quietly leave.
*the following is not about the fic in this specific post. in general, I still strongly believe people who let ai write for them should tag their works as ai accordingly. but if we want more people to be honest about it, weāll have to stop shaming and harassing people who actually tag their ai-generated fics accordingly. harassment is never justified. not to mention, it will only make āai writersā refrain from tagging their ai-generated works as such. and then thereās no way for anyone to know for absolute certainty if itās ai. therefore the raise of witch hunt.
