Unintentionally disappearing from Tumblr for a year. Posting finished chapters of my post-season 1 Huskerdust fic weekly and getting it out before season 2 starts and renders it canon-divergent. Can you guess which one of these two things I managed to accomplish?

To anyone interested, here's a (significantly shorter) first chapter of a hurt/comfort fic that kept bugging me with "but why end it here when you could write this and this happening between them?" and therefore got way out of hand. Oddly timed or not, canon-compliant after November 19th or not, I reckon it's still a story worth telling and am hoping that posting it as I go along motivates me even more to do so.

The late-night, half-awake, whispered confessions.  The moments of softness, and acceptance.  Tears, and reassurance.  Apologies given, forgiveness received.

They never spoke of them outside of the comfort of their bed.  Never hinted at them once the sun rose.

The sad memories shared.  The painful days, and lonely nights finally spoken of.  The childhood dreams that died too young, the hopes that once ran free.

"I'm okay," hushed, panted. Voice trembling with relieved doubt. "I'm okay, Ian." Arms closing around his torso, pulling him close, closer. Lips pressed against his forehead. ian gulps, a storm in his eyes threatening to pour, “it’s just i know ive done shit during my episodes i never want you to-“

“hey” mickey stops him, “not even on my radar, gallagher.” he, “nothin’ you could do that i can’t handle.” he uses the tip of his thumb to lightly brush ian’s chin. ian leans into the touch, a weight lifting from him and the storm subsiding as he inches closer to mickey, allowing himself to be wrapped in the warmth of the space they’ve made for each other.

Mickey didn’t realize the joy he would feel when he and Ian moved into their own space.

A space that was built for just him and Ian - nobody else.

They put up silly posters and Mickey made some drawings that Ian promptly framed to hang on the wall. They were building a home together in their small (but cozy) apartment on the West Side.

Here, he was safe. He was with Ian, who loved him for all that he is - the good, the bad, the really bad, and Ian’s favorite; the soft, sweet loverboy that he’s always been deep down.

Sometimes, on quieter days, they’ll head back to the old neighborhood.   

They’ll wander the streets they used to know by heart, smoke under freeway overpasses, make out in the broken-down bleachers no one’s ever bothered to fix. 

Each corner, each block holds a memory, a flashback. These places were the backdrop of their story, a reminder of how it all began. The light moments, and the dark. 

“I don’t know where else to go…”

“What fuckin’ world do you live in?… “

“Would you at least look at me?”

They’ll remember and squeeze each other’s hands tighter as they walk.

I never thought I would miss her. I never thought she would go like this. I never thought I would be the only person who miss her like this.

Finally, we have time. What we don’t have is space. Just four cement walls measuring six by eight.

At first I sleep better than I have in years, but now long after you’ve drifted off the guilt eats at me. I listen to your steady breaths and watch the walls closing in.

You’re trapped in here with all the worst things I’ve ever done, unable to abandon me now, even if you wanted to.

I watch for the moment you wake, waiting for the flinch as you remember where you are, what you’ve given up, but somehow it never comes.
