pretty sad i had to see stede being convinced he had absolutely ruined edward with his touch when all he had done was give a soft man the space to be just that, soft, like listen all edward was actually missing was feeling safe not the tenderness inside himself

look, i do honestly love that david jenkins had stede not really understand he was in love with ed until the scene with mary because he’d never been in love before and had no frame of reference, but it does make some of the earlier scenes fucking hilarious.

like, he’s standing in the light of a full moon, whispering to ed that he wears fine things well. ed moves towards him for a second before backing off. they go their seperate ways but turn around to stare at each other for a minute. you can cut the romantic tension with a knife. and meanwhile stede’s thought process is “having a real normal one with my good friend ed :)”

OK i feel half insane for this because surely we've noticed this before, right?? how Stede tucks Ed's red silk into the same spot that Ed keeps it in his jacket -- the inner pocket close to his heart

and then in season 2, Ed tucks the Stede-esque figurine into the same spot his red silk was once kept

So there's this thing in fandom spaces where people treat their favorite character like a sports team and get very upset when not everyone is rooting for their team because just like sports fans they take it as a personal affront if you're not pulling for the same team and they get angry if their team doesn't win (i.e. the character dies, doesn't get with the Hot Girl, etc.) and start cursing out the ref or the coach (the showrunner, the writers, etc.) just like those parents too invested in their kid's baseball game who get into fistfights with other parents in the parking lot.
