I swear Wax and Glist are similar in a way...both twisteds are passive, with one running away from you while the other runs towards you + they're both crying I believe, both apply debuffs to themselves, two star stealth, 5 star in a machine-related stat, them both being insecure (in what I've seen in Wax's dialogue anyway)...it gives me an idea

YES!!! YES. i think waxwell is silly as hell but he also contributes to the overarching theme of how it feels to be a “perfect” being (the toons, being characters from a cartoon) in an imperfect world (struggling to live up to those expectations) that I would argue started with Glisten!!

Especially with the debuffs shared between both of them—in the show they were likely able to use their abilities with no trouble, but in the real world, it takes more of a toll on their bodies. We’ve seen what that did to Glisten’s already fragile self-worth, it’s a natural conclusion to assume it might affect Waxwell too. Like…waxwell’s insecure. For a slightly different reason than Glisten, yes, but it still boils down to not being able to live up to a percieved expectation. thestarsarefalling (dont wanna ping them randomly) made a SUPER good post about their dialogue/ what it reveals about their characters, i think you’d like it ^^

I CANNOT wait to see waxwell in PaR, it’s gonna be so good!!! what is it with glisten getting roped into antagonistic character’s personal problems (first brusha, now waxy, i’m calling it he’s gonna run into shrimpo next) he’s like…a very unwilling therapist. godspeed glisten maybe if you provide therapy to enough toons you’ll be able to get yourself some too❤️

I actually made a joke similar to that: Glisten is a part-time singer, part-time actor, and a full-time therapist

No wonder I got drawn to Waxwell, he's insecure like Glisten, you absolutely KNOW I had to do something with that piece of information

I'm debating what the next chapter of PaR would be...I want to write something about Waxwell but I still need to write the other ideas first (fun fact: the Soul chapter has been sitting in my head EVER SINCE SOULVESTER CAME OUT so you can bet when I finally write about Wax it'd be months, maybe a year, later)

I just read the post by thestarsarefalling and I absolutely loved it! It was super perceptive and it helped me solidify my idea of Glist being the one to meet Wax for an interesting dynamic between them (it was originally going to be Box but that was before Wax was released. I imagined Wax with a WILDLY DIFFERENT personality. Glist fits better based on Wax's character)

PaR AU: Candle Edition

A new toon came out and I INSTANTLY got an idea for some reason

For context: I made a candle OC back in 2024 named Wisper and this was what she looked like

The ponytail is supposed to represent a flame, hence why the edges are sharper and not round like the rest of her hair

I redrew her and redesigned her a bit

In her fire necklace, there's a spirit called Little Flare. He can talk to her through the necklace and he can leave the accessory whenever he wants but chooses to stay inside because Wisper doesn't want to attract attention

Looping back to the present: Waxwell came out very recently and I thought what if Wisper and Waxwell were siblings?! (Wisp being younger and Wax being older). It's super silly but I absolutely adore family/found-family dynamics

If you're curious what their interactions would be like, here are some I came up with:

Wisper: Hi, Wax!

Waxwell: Oh, hey, Wisp…

Wisper: Are you okay?

Waxwell: Er– yes. Are you fine as well?

Wisper: Yep! Just– just don't press anyone’s buttons too much, alright?

Waxwell: …Sure.

Wisper: Wax, is Little Spark alright?

Waxwell: Ugh– she’s been fine, but she won't stop telling me to do friendship lessons!

Wisper: Really? You know she just wants the best for you.

Waxwell: But I want to be EVIL!! I’m doing the opposite of it!!!!!

Wisper: Well, if it makes you happy, you’re being evil not listening to her.

Waxwell: …Oh. LITTLE SPARK, WAS EVERYTHING YOU’VE SAID ON PURPOSE?

Wisper: Hehe…

Wisper: Really? What about Goob?

Waxwell: I– I guess he's fine, but you’re my little sister, I don't want anything bad happening to you.

Wisper: Don't worry! I got Little Flare with me! I also know how to protect myself!

Waxwell: Most of the time.

I have an idea that Waxwell is usually immature, unpredictable, and short-tempered(?) but when it comes to his sister he suddenly locks in. Like his protective older brother instinct kicked in. The only time you'll find him intimidating and "evil" is when he's defending his sister. I may be mischaracterizing him but it's just in my AU– don't flame me (pun intended)

Wisper's typically quiet, shy, and stammers a lot but with Waxwell she's more confident and less stuttery

Btw my design of Waxwell, in PaR at least

Those holes in his pants are on purpose. He wanted a "ripped jeans" aesthetic so he burnt holes into them. He thinks he's "so cool and bad" when in reality he looks like a buffoon

In PaR, they're part of the same family and if Wax's going to be related to Wisp, then he has to share Wisp's lore. To not spoil it much since I want to expand on it in the future, Wisp and Wax are part of a family that has a "special connection to spirits". When they were young, two spirits came and chose them. Little Flare (blue) chose Wisper, and Little Spark (red) chose Waxwell

These spirits were kept in accessories chosen by the toon they picked. Unless the item is broken or the person is gone, they are connected to that accessory and can't move a certain distance away from it. They're like a sort of guide, helping their child grow into the person they value: Little Flare believes confidence and mischief is fun, and Little Spark believes kindness and friendliness is everything

In other words, Wisp and Wax have guardians who are the COMPLETE OPPOSITE of them. Probably explains in PaR why Waxwell has terrible luck, HIS SPIRIT IS LITERALLY BENDING LUCK SO WAXWELL COULD LOOK GOOD TO OTHERS, doesn't help that Waxwell naturally has bad luck (headcanon). Wax once tried not to put on his spike collar and Little Spark still found her way to him despite being locked in the item because spirits are unpredictable and can use "unexplainable magic"

Okay so, long rant because glamour triggers my creative mind.

So. I feel that Glamour has that kind of essence of characters I really really love. Idk how to explain it. Glamour gives off an elegant vibe (glamourous if u may) but also a loose and softer one compared to Glisten; glist is bold, and somewhat sharp. But Glam is the opposite.

Swirls, loose longs skirts, flowers. He seems to just flow in the moment, rather than looking for everything to be perfect. The flower motif feels almost like a way to show he's like any other person, with goods and bads, and accepting it as it is.

I always give him swirls on his frame/head because 1. It looks cute. But also 2. Because, metal frames can be molded with heat, it shows that the warmth of his enviroment let him grow loose, imperfect "hairs" that show character and also self love in a way.

But also, even tho he is more accepting than Glisten in a way, he is also very fragil, theres deep wounds (both literally and metaphorically) that he's still healing from. He is reserved, quiet, and even tho the warmth is helping him heal, he is still very much broken, the bow that also acts like a corset, and his shattered face show that.

He feels the guilt from taking a choice other would have also taken in his place, and feels like everything is his fault. He doesn't WANT to be helped, yet his body and mind NEEDs it. He is very rigid in that way, there's still a hard way of thinking installed in his mind; he doesn't need to be perfect, but he needs to be enough.

Yet again, with help he reluctantly accepts, he is healing. And along with it, helping others heal (even if he doesn't realize it.

I love Glamour, not in a fangirl way. but like, I appreciate the way he's writen, and how he interacts with others and himself, he feels almost alive and i wanna hug him so bad, he makes me sad..

OUGH. i’m so happy he activates the neurons for you i can feel my brain gaining wrinkles every time i think about him (horrific mental image sorry. BUT YES CREATIVE MINDS UNITE)

I’ve realized something recently about how Glisten and Glamour differ fundamentally: while Glamour’s name invokes the idea of style and staying on-trend, that’s not who he is—that’s Glisten. Like, the best way I can explain it is an analogy where Glisten is to fashion what Glamour is to self-expression. They’re similar, yes—both fashion and self-expression have to do with how someone presents themself to the world, self-expression suggests a greater level of autonomy. For someone who hasn’t been able to have a say in anything for upwards of a decade, autonomy is the one thing Glamour needs—and luckily enough, he’s had plenty of opportunities to be who he wants to be.

As for the flower motif, you’re on the nose!! Everyone has their symbol—the thing they are that no other toon is (magnifying glass, music box, bubble, idgaf)—but Glisten’s the mirror, and Glamour’s the broken mirror, as sad as it is. So, he has his flowers—because if he has them, he doesn’t have to be the broken mirror—he can be the flower-adorned one instead.

The way I see him, Glamour’s a field of wildflowers. Where the garden wins prizes and awe for its beauty, the field is free to grow as it wishes. You can run free in a field of wildflowers—sure, maybe you’ll step on a bee or two, but the risk of discomfort comes with the privilege of having that freedom. He ebbs and flows with the wind because he has the autonomy to now.

also, I LOVE the swirls and florets you give his frame—it’s such a beautiful way to represent the control he has over himself now, and how he uses it to make himself happy :] He isn’t perfect, but that in of itself is a huge relief to him. (I’m not Glisten anymore, and…I think I prefer it that way. Too much of a burden to bear…)

Physically (and in the eyes of most toons, mentally), Glamour’s made an extremely fast recovery. In less than a week—a few days at most, he’s shaped himself from a semi-conscious twisted into a toon unlike any other. But in that “healing”, Glamour still bottles up his feelings. He’s not very good at it anymore (a la chapter fourteen), but under the new outfits and kind heart still lies a very fragile “Untwisted Glisten”. He’s progressing, yes, but also regressing (“I don’t want to be a bother, so you really can treat me however you want to, I don’t mind! I-it’s the way things are supposed to be, after all!”) because he still sees himself as someone unworthy of the warmth that’s helped him heal.

“He doesn’t need to be perfect, but he needs to be enough.” THAT. THAT’S HIM. That’s always what I’ve wanted to convey with him!!! He wants to live for himself, but he’s still stuck in the idea that he needs to serve others. He helped Sprout and Cosmo in chapter fourteen because he believed he owed it to them for helping him. He brought back all of those memories for Rodger’s interview in chapter thirteen because he wanted to be useful. Hell, he tied himself up when he was still underground because he wanted to prove he was still alive enough to put others before himself. He offers himself up for others because that’s where he believes his worth lies—and if he doesn’t have worth, why should he be allowed in the upper floors?

Even back in chapter 11, when he had his little revelation that he could just be himself (That had been his role, but now he could create a new one.) there was still the underlying worry that he didn’t serve a purpose. (And if Glisten was…just…Glisten, the perfect fashionista who always livened up Vee’s gameshows, then…who would Glamour be?) Sure, he’s creating a role. He just doesn’t realize that said role doesn’t have to involve sacrificing himself for the sake of others. And as you said, he’a unfortunately quite rigid in that regard. He can fathom that Glisten enjoys his company, but not enough to justify the kindness he’s been given. So, he convinces himself that he isn’t worth it. And that’s something that can only really heal with time and effort :( but he is still progressing, and helping Glisten heal in the process.

guys…I think nini might like glamour. wild theory i know, but like…i have a feeling. i’m so happy you like how i write him🥹 he makes me so happy but i worry that i’m not doing him justice so to hear that means the world^^ he is alive in my mind tho. like that’s my homie glamour we’re besties (delusion)

I really enjoyed this ramble and YESS I also enjoy the way Glamour is written. I feel like I've mentioned this before but Glam feels like a real person with real, relatable problems. I find myself relating to him with what he went through. I'm sorry I can't write a ramble as long as yours or nini's, just know I absolutely love Glamour (platonically) and would have to see more of him :)
