:: the house on mango street // NOT ACCEPTING.
Ā Ā Ā Ā ā You donāt know me if you believe that Iāll let that stop me. I work the bar and waitress, Cobra. I talk to people I wish I didnāt have to all the time. Thanks for the warning, but I can handle them. ā
@felmaar
ā i couldnāt do anything but cry. ā
:: the house on mango streetĀ // NOT ACCEPTING.
Ā Ā Ā Ā The admission has the barmaid wide-eyed, hand covering her mouth in surpriseā¦but thereās sympathyā¦no, empathy for him. It seems like the lives of everyone here has their own share of tragedy and pain. Isnāt it ironic how this place seems to be filled with broken souls trying to mend themselves again? They rise, they fall, and find themselves trying to raise themselves up again and collect the pieces of themselves along the way.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Mirajane herself has had her own share of misery, of nights spent sobbing into her bedsheets after the memory of her sisterās death replays in her dreams. Some days, itās her parentsā wailing echoing against church walls, but Lisanna is a key figure that haunts her in sleep. Itās her soft voice, calling to their brother that turns to sheer horror. Itās her own voice, calling out to her to run, to flee.Ā Lisannaā¦LISANNA! ā¦But the past is the past, and they have to keep moving lest they lose themselves. Even as she blames herself for what happens, she forces herself to move forward one slow step at a time. Itās one foot in front of the other, and one smile at a time.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Itās why she smiles now despite the sadness that fills herāsadness for her own loss, for the sadness thatās haunting him. She rests a hand gently between his shoulder blades. .Ā ā I know how that feelsāhow useless you feel when you canāt do anything but cry. It doesnāt make you weak, regardless of what you may be thinking.
Ā Ā Ā Ā ā Everyone has moments like that. People bend and break, but they also put themselves back together. Youāll never be who you were before, but you can create a better version of yourself. Itās those moments of weakness that make you strong. Donāt blame yourself for something everyone experiences at one point, okay? Keep your chin up and live for those youāve lost, and for those who are still with you.Ā ā

it means sadness, it means waiting.
still, we take what we can get and make the best of it.
i have begun my own quiet war.
okay, iāll be your friend.
i couldnāt do anything but cry.
got to take care all your own.
there was a family.
i donāt belong.Ā i donāt ever want to come from here.
who gave you those?
nobody.
all gone.
i put it down on paper and then the ghost does not ache so much.
you canāt erase what you know. you canāt forget who you are.
please donāt make me tell it all.
you can never have too much sky.
canāt you see iām busy?
but i know how those things go.
you must remember to come back. for the ones who cannot leave as easily as you.Ā
today it belongs to all of us.
until then i am a red balloon, a balloon tied to an achor.
but we arenāt afraid.Ā
you will remember?
i forgot.
for the ones i left behind.
i wished and wished.
what does it matter?
do you feel it, feel the cold?
you can get lost easy.
sometimes you get used to the sick and sometimes the sickness, if it is there too long, gets to seem normal.
they think itās funny.
i read it in a book.Ā
one day I will go away.
and then i donāt know why but i had to run away.
like something wasnāt right.
then we didnāt need to worry.
shame is a bad thing, you know. it keeps you down.
and other things i canāt explain.
they think weāre dangerous.
i hold and hold and hold him.
you donāt want to know them.
i like to tell stories. i tell them inside my head.
oh, weāre only playing.
how could they?
i am one who leaves the table like a man, without putting back the chair or picking up the plate.
maybe we were bored that day. maybe we got tired.
we made a clubhouse once on the back of that old blue pickup.
no wonder everybody gave up.
we are tired of being beautiful.
i couldāve been somebody, you know?

I AM A POOR WAYFARING STRANGER,Ā traveling through this world alone. And there is no sickness, toil, or danger in that bright light to which I go. And Iām going there to see my mother. And Iām going there no more to roam. And Iām only going over Jordan. And Iām only going over home now.
