An Open Letter of Sass and Love to my Feuding Friends
Couldn’t find my Ash account sign in. Somehow this seems even more appropriate coming from Ares. Heard you guys were having some troubles so I wrote a thing. It’s a long thing. I tagged you artfully in it (so artful) and then Tumblr reminded me tags don’t work on new blogs. So I’m tagging some of you (I’m way too lazy to look up all these usernames again, just share and care motherfuckers) much less artfully, cause maybe, juuuuuust maybe, this will be useful.
Or it’ll be useless. Or actively counter-producitve. Or everyone will hate me. Somehow with all these possibilities, I decided fuck it.

“Yeah I’d say that probably sounds about right.” David didn’t disagree with Ares; he knew it was right. Ella had died that way, it wasn’t a secret. Rowan was no doubt somewhere by himself, wishing that he’d done something more to save the woman he loved. David wanted to roll his eyes at the thought of it. Rowan had been so concerned about the loss of one friend he had completely forgotten the other.
He let out a deep breath and carefully placed the coffee cup down on the bench beside him before getting to his feet. He approached Ares, stopping a couple of steps away from him. “I’m not asking you to cry about it all, I’m not asking you to break down and be angry either. You do whatever you want to do, it doesn’t bother me.” There was still that worried expression on his face, though. He couldn’t rid of it that just yet. “You do whatever you’ve gotta do.”
Ares could appreciate honesty. Even more than honesty, he could appreciate being left the hell alone. Everyone was either in the camp of staying clear, or coming far too close for comfort. David managed to balance a middle line, though one that wavered a little too close to pity for Ares’ liking. All the same, he opened the window just enough to quell his friend’s concerns.Â
“She was an addict and a thrill junkie. I knew she was dead a while ago,” he commented, a light shrug following his words. It was the truth, though few would see it as such, that Ares had mourned Ella’s passing a long, long time ago. He had been there to watch her die, because in his mind, someone ought to be. “Maybe I should take a good long piss on Will’s grave,” he added as an after thought. “Wouldn’t be good to keep any of that anger inside.” He gave a short smirk at the ironic comment, considering it a joke that few would find funny.

Rogue: Ask around, I want you to come back with more than blonde hair.
Ares: Why does it matter? The guy's too fucked up now to be a church choir let alone a gang.
Ares: Go ask the recon team. I'm not here to be your eyes and ears.

David knew that was what Ares got paid to do. He was one of the best members and to David, the most valuable. He was the only person he could sit in silence with and really just felt comfortable apart from himself. So when Ares dodged the question, David scoffed and shook his head. They both knew that wasn’t what he was talking about.
“Physically you’re as great as ever, I know that, you know that… We all know that. You’re fit, you’re strong, you’re a fighter. And mentally I know you’re almost always there but since… Everything happened…” David trailed off, not wanting to push buttons and end up with coffee in his face. He sipped on his drink and kept his blue eyes on his friend. “You know you don’t have to avoid it with me, right? I get it.”
The complimentary build-up already had Ares suspicious and as soon as the phrase mentally sprang up, the assassin’s expression soured. So David was here to play therapist today, what a disappointing surprise. “We can talk about it?” he asked, tone almost optimistic as he took another sip. “Great. Let’s hash it all out real quick then: El’s dead, drunk and with some asshole’s dick halfway down her throat and Rowan’s probably drinking his whiny ass off in some shitter in Philly because he had such a fucking hard-on for her and now he thinks the world owes him a pity party. Does that about sum it up?”
He raised his brows for a moment before continuing on with the brutish rant. “Oh right--you’ve got that worried look. I’m supposed to be crying in some shitter too, is that it?” He gave a scoff at the idea, almost laughing. “Sorry to disappoint Ches, but I think you mixed me up with someone who gives a fuck.”

David let out a quiet hum in amusement, sipping on his own coffee. He perched himself on one of the benches.
“You know you scare 99% of the people here, and some of those people are pretty scary themselves,” he commented. Knowing Ares, he hadn’t had a break in those two hours and God only knew what he was doing before then. David watched his friend carefully.
“How are you holding up?” He asked. It had been a question he was avoiding for a long time, but now it just needed to come out.
"Pretty sure that’s what I get paid for,” he shrugged, well aware that part of his job description was scary. And scary enough to scare the likes of gang members, though the often needed to remind him he should keep that list limited to Heart’s gang members. He was always terrible at directions though, and opted to leave that to David.Â
He mulled over the second question with another long gulp of the black coffee, enjoying the burning sensation down his throat and quick pick-up in adrenaline. “Not bad,” he decided after a bit. “Angela said I pulled a muscle few weeks back. Think I might’ve overdone it with that docks job,” he added, reminiscing with a short scoff. So maybe tossing the guy straight overhead had been a little...dramatic. But it had certainly proved his point. “But almost back to my regular.” He nodded in the direction of the weights, the ones he’d been slowly building back up over the past month. He’d be good as new in no time.
David knew that Ares had struggled after Ella died; he knew it sucked that Rowan upped and left and it was just him by himself. It seemed that people abandoned each other a lot lately, but David hadn’t planned on going anywhere. He knew Ares was angry a lot of the time, but that didn’t tend to bother him. A lot of people were scared of him, but David felt like he had an understanding, and at least Ares didn’t hate him as much as he hated everyone else.
Two cups of coffee in hand, David had looked all over for his friend, finding him eventually in the gym working out.
“How long you been at it now?” David asked, not caring that he interrupted his friend’s workout. “Two hours? Three? Think it’s time for a coffee break, buddy.”
If Ares was surprised by David’s arrival, his flat expression did nothing to betray it. His question remained unanswered for a long period of silence where the assassin continued on with the end of his set before noisily replacing the weighed bar on it’s stand. “Two,” he replied plainly, cracking his shoulders before accepting the cup from David.
“So what, I scaring the kids out of here again?” he prompted after a sip. It was a fairly friendly jibe, though nothing sounded particularly friendly in Ares’ rough tone. It was, however, David’s job to keep an eye on everyone which at times meant quietly moving Ares out of public areas so the other members could use them. Ares always felt they should just teach the new members to grow a pair, but he’d humor David’s compassion on his better days.

Rogue: I need updates on where everyone is. What was seen, who you talked to.
Rogue: People on all exits to see who rushes the fuck out of here and a few to head to the hospital.
-14 hours later-
Ares: Saw some blonde asshole rushing out. Probably a Heart.
Ares: Didn't get a name. Have Piper check hospital records for a shithead with two broken legs. That's him.
Ares was glad to be on his way, already more interested in his long awaited food than in the daily sidewalk assholes who littered New York. Said asshole, however, seemed to have a different plan entirely. The nickname brought a snarl to his lips, but the realization that he’d been robbed? Well that brought the hint of a smile. Turning around with slow, attentive interest, he offered a slight tilt of his head at the recognition of his phone. “Huh.” The syllable offered little in terms of his mood, nor did the stone expression as he made his way back to the stranger. “Seems I did.” He forgot a very important something: he forgot to punch this particular asshole in the face. It was a problem he was quick to fix.
Jake smirked as the man slowly turned around. He knew what was coming next, but he also noticed a cop in the corner of his eye. If Jake did anything they would both be taken, but if he took the hit then only he would. So as soon as his fist came up, Jake waited for the hit, and was it a hit indeed. It wasn’t the first time it happened. When he was in prison, he had gotten in plenty of fights.Â
It was satisfying, as it always was, to feel the sharp connection of knuckle to jaw as the offending stranger’s head snapped to the side. Never one to do things halfway, Ares couldn’t help but through in an extra hit, even more forceful than the first. It was enough to knock some opponents out completely, but the smirking idiot seemed to have some fortitude. Maybe he’d surprise him.
Determining his point--don’t fuck with strangers on the street--was thoroughly proven, Ares made way to continue walking. After all, he had a hotdog to buy.

Favorite and least favorite person?
I don’t have any favorite people. The only people I liked are dead. Jeb and Alex are in the tie for last place though. Guess the winner will be whoever’s still alive to grab that trophy.
Shame. And I really was looking forward to making you bleed. Oh well, there /are/ other ways. Watch your back ;)

One on one, up close and personal. If you’re going to take a man’s life, what’s the point if you can’t feel it? I don’t know what the hell Scarlett gets out of shooting someone a fucking mile away. When I kill someone, I want them to know it was me.
