Well Under Armour, its about that time where the top 10 finalists in each category are going to be selected and I thought I would remind you guys why I deserve a place in the top 10 finalists for the Marketing Strategist position. And what better way to do so than with my own top 10 list.
1) Impact: First and foremost, I have tried to show in my blog posts that I have made an influential impact on my School of Management community through the various leadership roles I hold. Whether it is being a member of the Honor's program, giving tours of the school as a Dean's host, or teaching and mentoring freshman business students as a teaching assistant, I believe I have left a positive mark on our school already in 2 years. The same will be seen if given the opportunity to become Under Armour's ultimate intern.
2) Team leadership: The marketing strategist role serves as the focal point of the ultimate intern team. As my high school basketball team's captain for four years I was able to effectively lead my team and motivate my teammates even in the toughest of times. Which leads to #3....
3) Resolve: Our junior year, our team was not so good, sporting a 3-24 record. Yet that summer, I organized team workouts and our team worked hard day in and day out.Our senior year we were able to be 15-14 and almost make playoffs for the first time in a decade. All the hard work paid off, and we were able to close our high school experience knowing we achieved success as defined by John Wooden: "Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to become the best of which you are capable."
4) Coachability: This is a term often used by basketball coaches to describe players that only have to be told things once. Coachable players can take constructive criticism and also implement the necessary corrections consistently. I prided myself on this label as I was a player that a coach would always know could be depended on. My time at Under Armour would be characterized by learning and growth. As a coachable intern, you can expect that I will constantly improve myself through any constructive criticism given.
5) Fit: The marketing strategist role has to see the big picture and will most likely be the point person Under Armour turns to in order to see what strategies the Ultimate intern team is churning out. My extensive experience as a point guard fits this role perfectly. I was the extension of the coach on the court, communicating plays and directions out to my teammates. Similarly, the marketing strategist will be the one communicating Under Armour's message to the Ultimate intern team as well as to the general public.
6) Follow-through: As one of the first people that Under Armour reblogged way back when this journey started, I have consistently updated this blog, albeit not as much as I hoped due to health and midterms. However, I have remained dedicated to this process throughout the past few weeks.
7) Curiosity: As I hope you saw in my video blogs, I keep a very busy schedule. Yet, even so I still try to make the time to try new things that I haven't done before. Those video blogs, for one, were a completely new thing for me. Also, I showed clips of my first ever broomball game in one of my video blogs. I am always open to try new things and at Under Armour I know I will have plenty of opportunities to do so.
8) Creativity: In trying to stand out, I decided to create my own playlist on 8tracks, with songs that I believed represented Under Armour well. Through the 3 week process it has garnered 166 likes and 850 plays. While unconventional, I was still able to connect Under Amour's identity to users through music. Marketing strategists must find as many channels as possible to reach its market and I was able to successfully do so through music. 9) Understanding: In order for the marketing strategist to be successful, the person must understand Under Armour's brand and what it stands for. In addition to my blog posts, I have reblogged many of the photos and quotes which I believe encapsulate Under Armour's brand identity perfectly. Through this I have shown my understanding of UA and as the marketing specialist my knowledge of the brand will not be matched.
10) Passion: At the end of the day, without a passion for Under Armour, there can be no ultimate intern team. Everything I have posted, reblogged, or written has been used in order to display my passion for the brand. It is easy enough to show a picture of Cam Newton or Under Armour apparel in order to show passion and perhaps in not doing so I hurt my chances. But I constructed this blog to show how Alex Yamamoto fits Under Armour's brand mission and culture.
Throughout the past 3 weeks I believe you have gotten to know me inside out. I have left everything on the table, and I will walk away knowing I gave my best effort. I appreciate this opportunity Under Armour has given all of us and I look forward to seeing who ultimately makes it to the Ultimate Intern team.
