Chris frowned, eyeing the man beside him before turning onto his side. He did have a point. It was one thing after another in this city and with the way things were going, it was only a matter of time before another one of them died. And it was entirely possible that it would be one of them.

But he couldn’t leave.

“The pack would never agree to leave,” he stated quietly, avoiding Peter’s gaze. He couldn’t leave Allison and he knew Peter couldn’t leave Alex and Malia.

Chris watched the wolf undress and get into bed next to him. He, himself, knew that it should have been more uncomfortable to be in the same bed with Peter -- with a wolf -- but it wasn’t. After all the lecturing he’d done about werewolves to Allison, now he was the one sleeping with wolves.

He snorted at Peter’s comment, rolling his head. “That’s never stopped you from getting into my bed before.”

Chris smiles despite the tension still in his shoulders and accepts the man’s hand, grateful for the suggestion. He’s sore in places he’d forgotten about and would really like to stretch out for a while, to let his muscles rest. There’s still a lot he has to do with the pack over the next few days to figure out what else has been terrorizing Beacon Hills, but for now...he needs his rest.

He lets Peter lead him into the bedroom and strips himself of his shirt and pants, collapsing into bed in his boxers. His eyes immediately close and he sighs at the relief of finally being in his bed.

He gazes up at Peter. “Just gonna stand there, old man?”

And, of course, he couldn’t resist the jibe at Peter’s age. Even if he is the one whose age is showing.

It felt good to sit down, to relax back in his chair and just be. He let his eyes fall closed for a moment, but blinked them open at Peter’s question, feeling the weight of his dread, heavy in his chest.

“No worse than usual.” Which wasn’t a lie. It hadn’t been the worst thing they’d dealt with in Beacon Hills. But how much did that actually say anymore? When there seemed to be a new monster to fight every week, every fight seemed more difficult than the last. When, in reality, they were all just tired -- physically and just tired of having to fight for their lives.

“Derek left,” Chris admitted, still a little confused about that. Derek had never seemed like the type to just up and leave when his pack needed him, especially not when he was still their alpha.

Chris snorted at the man’s bluntness, softly shaking his head and toeing out of his shoes. He approached the wolf, nudging himself between his knees and smirking down at him.

“Have you?” He ran his fingers through the man’s hair, tugging his head back. He met Peter’s dark, playful eyes and sighed. “If I wasn’t so tired, I might take you up on that.”

Instead, he ran his hand down the man’s cheek and moved away to take a seat in another chair. He spun the chair around to face Peter, grinning smugly.

Chris rolled his eyes and shrugged out of his jacket, tossing it onto his desk. He took a moment to look over the wolf himself. He looked surprisingly good considering how much he also had to deal with from the pack. How either of them hadn’t gone completely insane by now, he had no idea.

He did, indeed, have a certain...weakness for the man’s surprise entrances, especially when the man showed up unexpectedly during one of his trips. He’d always been one of Chris’s favorite distractions.

He smirked. “Why are you in my office?”

Of all rooms, Chris didn’t finish.

Whoever told you that shirt looked good on you should be shot. You'd look much better if it was on my floor, just like your pants.

You know all you have to do is name the time and the place, Wolf.

Chris sighed as he dropped his bag on the floor of his garage, running his hand through his hair. He would never admit that he was getting too old for this town, but...well...he wasn’t getting any younger.

As he closed and locked the garage door, he noticed that the door leading into his kitchen was ajar. Reaching for his gun, he slowly made his way inside, canvasing the house and stepping through the dark hallways. He paused just outside his office, noticing that that door was also open. He frowned and pushed the door open, nearly dropping the gun to the floor in relief.

“Hale,” he sighed, setting the gun down on a shelf. “Way to make an entrance.”
