Um… hi. Hi. Hello. I like your wings. They are very good. Good wings. Would you like a hat? I have hats. If you want one. I knit them. You can have one if you want. Hi.
@sam-sam-time-travel-man
oh, hello, dear! thank you -- I like my wings too. I'd love a hat! Do you have one in green? I'm Ari! Can I have your name?
[They hum as they rummage through their bag and pull out a green hat, rubbing it between their fingers before holding it out.]
No, it’s mine, but I can tell it to you if you want. It’s Sam.
oh, you're smart. nice to meet you, Sam!
[they pulled on the hat.]
It's warm!
Than—er.
[They freeze for a few seconds while staring at the ground]
Nice to meet you as well, Ari. I’m glad! I made it myself!
[they frowned at his freezing.]
Are you ok, dear?
[They nod quickly]
I’m fine. Just trying to figure out how to not break rules.
Rules, dear?
The fae rules?
You are.. an immortal, yes? I do not quite know how that would apply.
Wait, how’d you know that?
[they arched an eyebrow.]
darling, im a Fae. there's something to be said for like seeking like.
But I’m still human, I think. I don’t think I’ve changed. I can’t change, no matter how hard I try. I still bleed. I can still… almost die. I can’t do magic or anything. Fae magic usually works on me. Everything I know, I know from experience.
[They sighed.]
Perhaps. You should experiment with that more.

In the woods in some world whose location doesn't matter, a young woman was sitting on a log, carefully sharpening a large battle axe. She had shoulder-length red hair, and was wearing what can only be described as a neon pink whore outfit. She was humming quietly as she worked, her bag set out next to her with a skinny black cat laying on it.
@the-mjs-take-two
[Ari was just wandering the woods. They'd put on a more human form, and their hair this time was a dark green. They were in a very pretty dark blue dress that came down to their ankles, not quite hiding their bare feet. They weren't expecting to come across the strange woman, but they said hi anyway.]
Hello!
She looked up. "Hello there!" she called, putting down her sharpener and waving. She had a vaguely European-sounding accent and a light tone. "Who are you?"
I'm Ariana. You can call me Ari. Who're you?
"I'm Miria! Nice to meet you!" She stood up, dusting herself off. "What are you doing out here?"
Oh, I'm just wandering. Miria's a pretty name.
"Thank you! So's yours. I was out wandering too, I needed to find a place to sharpen my axe."
Nice.
[Their grin widened slightly.]
Thanks for your name, by the way!
"What?"
Oops, sorry. Guess I forgot to introduce myself properly!
[Their wings nudged out from their back.]
"Ah! You're not human!" She looked relieved.
[They blinked slowly, as though reminding themselves to do it.]
Well, that wasn't the reaction I was expecting. Better than cowering in fear, though. No, not human. Fae.
"That's so cool! I was sure it was only humans here."
Oh, it is. Other than the occasional other universe-hopper, but they don't tend to frequent the woods and I don't.. love metropolitan areas, so...
She covered her mouth. "Another dimension hopper?? Aaaaaa! Me too! Omg!"
[They smiled at the energetic woman in front of them, walking around to sit on the log she'd just stood up from.]
Yeah. Not a lot of hoppers in here though... guess it's a boring one.
[They sounded rather pleased about that fact.]
"It is. I was just stopping here to recover from my last trip and check out the nightclubs."
Unfortunately, I can't attest to the quality of the nightlife here. Not really my thing. Where'd you go last?
"The Electric Hyperdeath! It was a cool place. Where do you like to hang out then?"
Mostly, around here. Or libraries. I like those. Depends what I'm doing.
"Oh, I love libraries. The forest reminds me of home, though."
Same...
[They sounded momentarily wistful.]
How come you need a sharp axe?
"I don't need it here, I suppose, but I like it!"
Fair enough. Don't use it on the trees, though.
"I wouldn't dream of it. She's a battle-axe, anyhoo!"
Glad to hear it, darling.
She giggled. "Ooh~"
[Their cheeks dusted with a faint blush.]
That.. just slipped out.
"Oh." She clasped her hands together, toeing at the dirt with a white sneaker.
[They hitched up their skirt so they could stretch their legs across the log more comfortably.]
Sit with me-
[A moment's pause.]
-darling?
She grinned and sat down. "Are you flirting with me?"
I might be.
Miria tucked her hair behind her ear. "Well... I might be a lesbo..."
[They laughed slightly at her phrasing, looking her outfit up and down.]
Not much doubt there, honey.
She giggled, fiddling with a tube of pink lipstick. "I'm glad it's visible! I was worried no one could tell."
Mmm... no, I can tell. I do like the outfit, too.
"Thank you!" It was a very bright outfit - a heavily embroidered jean miniskirt with a shiny pink spaghetti strap crop top, matching makeup and nails, and white sneakers. "I like yours too!"
Oh, thanks!
[Their dress was a deep navy, with gold embroidery and a corset embossed with gold laurel leaves. Their lipstick was a matching shade of navy.]
"Your makeup is really pretty, where'd you buy it?"
I... uh, didn't. Appearance alteration extends to modifications, so...
"I can do that too! Eeeee, this is so exciting!"
[Their smile widened.]
It's nice to.. talk to someone. Most people tend to, yknow, run off screaming pretty quickly.
"Why?"
Well, the Fae aren't exactly... popular.
"Can'tcha just keep your wings hidden?"
Oh, sure, but enough of the locals have caught sight of me that now I'm some, like... forest creature rumour or something.
"Ooh, cool! You're a cryptid!"
Yup. Fun times. You stick around here long enough, you'll probably end up one too.
"That'd be crispy!"
The cat was in her lap now, and she was petting it absentmindedly.
....crispy?
"You know. Cool. Awesome. Kickass. Lively. Crispy!"
[Their lips twitched in amusement.]
Got it.
The cat bumped up against Ari, sniffing them.
[They cooed softly at the cat, tentatively reaching out to pet it.]
It tentatively leaned into her hand, flicking its ears. Miria giggled. "She's seeing if she likes you or not!"
[They smiled, scritching the cat's ears.]
Who's a cute girl?
[Their voice had taken on the default "baby voice" that people adopt when talking to animals.]
The cat purred, seeming a little bit less skittish. Miria smiled too.
[They were still petting the cat gently.]
She's so cute and fluffy!
"I know, right? She's my best friend! I saved her when she was a baby, she was all alone outside."
Aw, that's adorable.
"Yep! It's just been the two of us for a loooong time."
I didn't know cats lived that long. 'Least, they don't in this universe.
[They shrugged and went back to cooing over the cat.]
"Well, we're not from around here." She watched fondly.
Fair enough. I.. think she likes me? What's her name?
"It's Miracle."
Oh, that's an adorable name!
[They made a startled sound as the cat settled down in their lap.]
Oh- okay.
The cat was lazily making biscuits in Ari's lap, unnaturally blue eyes shutting in contentment. "Isn't it? I named her that cause she's my miracle."
Oh, that's sweet of you!
[They were still running their hand up and down her back.]
The cat was purring now, having settled in.
I'm.. kinda surprised. I'm not used to domesticated animals being friendly towards me. Normally they try and, yknow, claw my face off.
"She and I ain't exactly domesticated in the usual sense."
Fair enough, darling.
[They kept petting her.]
Is that a no to the scratching, then?
"Who, me? I will if I have to, why?"
[They waved a hand, dismissing it.]
Oh, nevermind. Unimportant.
"Okay..." She seemed mildly suspicious, but didn't push it. "Hey, do you live in the woods then, if you're a fairy?"
I'm a Fae, not a fairy.
[They sounded genuinely disgusted at the comparison.]
And yes.
"Oh, sorry. What's the difference?"
Fairies are the smug little fucks who fly around and sprinkle 'fairy dust' on shit like some deus ex machina. The Fae are both more... sensible and less... morally inclined, if you will.
She looked mildly offended. "I'm friends with fairies."
I'm talking about fairies I've generally interacted with, both in my universe and in others.
"Fairies are nice. I like them."
...I'll take your word for that one.
"What does 'less morally inclined" mean?"
We're the ones who steal names. What do you think it means?
"Well screw you too."
I'm not gonna, like, steal yours or anything, calm down.
"Good."
[The cat still stayed, purring, in their lap.]
Miria reached over to pet her ears. "So. Where do you live?"
I built my own little hut that I live in. I don't really need much - I don't need food or sleep, and I only really have the hut for when it's cold, so...
"Good gravy! I wish I could survive without food. Starting over is sometimes hard. Luckily I got sticky fingers!" She wiggled her digits and grinned.
[They grinned back.]
Good on you.
"Thank you! It's nice to know I'm not the only person who's not a square."
A square?
"A loser."
Oh, that makes sense.
"Yup!"
[They return their attention to the cat in their lap.]
It had very odd eyes. They were an unnaturally deep blue, one she had never seen on a cat before. It purred when petted just like any other cat, though.
[They stared at its eyes for a moment too long, the unnatural colour sparking some vague, half-formed recollection.]
Miria's hand twitched. "What's going on?"
Nothing. I don't think.
[They scratched behind the ears of the cat-that-was-not-quite-a-cat.]
She has pretty eyes. Is that eye colour.. common, in your universe?
"Well, she wasn't always a cat. So, I suppose!"
Fair enough. Voluntary change, or...?
"Yes. She is very happy being a cat."
Nice.
[They smiled.]
She's a very cute kitty.
"Not as cute as you."
[They made a startled sound, cheeks flushing.]
Thank you.
"You're welcome!"
You're, uh, very cute too.
"Aww, thank you! I spend a lot of time getting ready in the morning."
Oh, really?
[They shrug.]
I just kinda... do whatever, most of the time.
"Me too! But I gotta look cute while doing it."
Well, you're certainly succeeding there.
She giggled, then sat bolt upright with a gasp, eyes wide and sparkling with mischief. "Omg! I just remembered something! I heard there's a store owner in town who kicked out his trans daughter - wanna go and set his house on fire??" She swung her feet excitedly.
[Their eyes lit up.]
Of course I do! Is the kid ok, though?
"Ja. I met her. She is alright. She has a place to stay. But now, I have an afternoon projecttttt~"
We, you mean. But yes. A little arson sounds like fun.

Thank you.
@the-mjs-take-two
[Ari was just wandering the woods.
