ariel blew a bubble with her gum as she opened the envelope that held her official transcript. she was pretty confident that she'd done well in her classes. she hummed to herself as she sat on her bed, unfolding the paper that held her grades. a... a... a... a... d. perfect. wait a minute. "a d? are you fucking kidding me? A GOD DAMN D?" she'd never gotten anything below a B in her life, and she only got a b once. in the seventh grade. because she skipped out on a test because she went home sick. throughout her gallagher experience, though, she'd only ever had an a in everything, even if it was a low a. reading the note at the bottom of the paper, a note from the teacher of her class, she sighed. the assignments you turn in are fabulous. but they aren’t of this day and age. they’re very outdated. you’re supposed to create things of this year, not from twenty years ago. maybe you’ll pay more attention next semester and actually do what you were assigned to do. best wishes. "son of a bitch..."

“Some people are going back to Gallagher. Others are staying the weekend to have fun. I’d stay but I don’t feel well.” He commented. “Trust me, it doesn’t make sense to me either.” It’s not that he wouldn’t eat that, he just wouldn’t call it a quesadilla. “Now, I’m hungry wanna get something to eat? I think I lost my tailee, but I’ll find her again later.” 

“wait a minute, we can leave?” she asked. “i should start paying more attention...” ariel nodded at his invitation. “sure. i’m always hungry. where we going?”

“So, I’m guess you’re not staying the weekend?” He questioned, smiling. Denis wasn’t, he was going to head back to Gallagher, as soon as possible. “Yeah, they still put other stuff, like meat or veggies, but not the cheese, and still call it a quesadilla.” This he actually knew for a fact happened. 

“yeah i’m staying, where else am i gonna go? can’t go back to school without the school,” she said. “that’s not a quesadilla though. quesadillas have cheese, that’s the ‘quesa’ part. without the cheese it’s just a... meat and veggie filled tortilla.”

“ DO I ? you jumped to that conclusion pretty quick, maybe you want a little something ? ” he’ll grin just the same, but of course he knows she’s right. “ at least you were blessed elsewhere, though there’s nothing wrong with being tiny. ” he wouldn’t wish it on himself, obviously.

“when have i ever passed up a good time?” she asked. “i’m blessed in flexibility. i’ve never heard any complaints.”

He makes a face, like he just remembered something, but quickly shakes it off. “Do you know when the buses are going back to Gallagher?” He questioned. “Also, I don’t know. I’m sure there’s a niche market for it. Like people who prefer quesadillas with no cheese.” 

“i dunno, i just wait to receive instructions and then follow them. most of the time, she said. her nose scrunched and shook her head. “nuh uh, do people actually do that? a quesadilla without cheese? that’s just a fuckin’ tortilla.”

     “segway! yeah, those things. i think i’ve ridden one before, but it was most likely years and years ago. i would need to relearn it. so i guess the question left is ‘am i willing to humiliate myself in the capital of the country’.”

“do it. but lemme make sure i’m recording first,” she said with a small laugh.

“ THAT DOESN’T MEAN you can’t check me out. ” he scoffs, thinks she’s lying anyway. “ well, you do have the unfair advantage of being short, it’s probably so easy to hide for you. ”

“you just want me to check you out cause you want a little somethin, huh?” she asked, grinning at him. “yeah well it’s not my fault i’m tiny, it’s genetics.”

“don’t flatter yourself, i’m not checking you out. i already know what you got,” she said, rolling her eyes. “and i’m not tailing you. if i was, you wouldn’t know about it.”

“I’ve never thought about it. What does hot water taste like?” He questions, though, he doesn’t imagine anyone actually drinks hot water by itself.

“i don’t know, who the hell drinks hot water on its own?”

       “kinda wish i had that thing paul blart had to go around the mall right now. not because i’m too lazy or anything but i just saw some tourists ride by earlier with some and i kinda wanna try it out!” | @arielkatsopolis​

“youuu mean a segway? they’re fun, but you have to really get used to it. kinda like a hoverboard, how you have to lean forward to make it go. it’s touchy.”

“ well, no, you don’t sound insane. it’s obviously going to taste different since temperature affects the sensitivity of your taste buds. hardly profound. ”

“Thanks for helping me with this, you didn’t have to,” Reese said, looking over to her as she explained everything, including all the little pieces that he hadn’t even thought about. “And we don’t want a microchip because we don’t want it to be traced… Could I figure out a way to block the scanner?” It was a little pet project, no more but it’d help him get himself prepared for more R&D. “How’d you become so good at this stuff?”

“yeah i did, you’ll end up doing something wrong and hurt yourself. you never make your first gadget on your own, you always get help,” she said. ariel shook her head. “no, no. you need the microchip. but my point was, an on/off switch makes it stay on longer than a trigger does. if you block the scanner, you won’t be able to use it. being traced is just a risk you have to take with it,” she said. “i’ve been in the spy industry since i was conceived. every generation of my family on both sides have been spies. i grew up doing it, so i learned how to do it myself.”

“i don’t have anything better to do, i’m done with everything i needed to get done,” she said with a small shrug.

‘   is this what you spend time thinking about ? interesting.    ’ deadpanned, retracing her steps in order to decipher how she got entangled in such an inane conversation. 

“sometimes, yeah. i get bored,” she said with a shrug. “don’t you ever get weird thoughts in your head like that?”

       “brave girl. but also, screw boot camp right now. i wanna nap. or sleep for the next few days.” she remarked. “well, if we see billy walk across the stage during graduation, i’d pray for the first time in years. everyone likes an underdog story, right?”

“honestly, same. but i wanna eat first, i might hit the food court before going back to my room,” she said. “underdogs are the ones to look out for, man. billy’s probably gonna be the best spy in the world one day, and no one’s ever gonna expect it cause we all underestimated him.”

juliet blinks back at her, confusion written all over her face as she thinks the statement over. “okay, i get cold water tasting pointy.” kind of like how drinking water with gum in your mouth taste frosty? “but what do you mean by tasting round?”

“like... no edges. smooth. just... nothing special, yanno?” she said, twirling her hair around her finger. “like, there’s a certain point with cold water where you’re like ‘hits the spot’ but room temp water just doesn’t do that.”
