R u still into 31 minutos?? -🎙
Was thinking about this ask a while ago and I'm sorry to be replying late, it's just that I haven't drawn much art for 31 minutos lately,,, but yup!! I'm still into it!! It just doesn't come to me as frequently as before, but the sock monkey is still the most frequent character I doodle on the sides of my notebook pages (dogman has been the most frequent one tho, but I keep making little crossovers with them)
I was actually making a big drawing with the whole crew a while ago but ended up never finishing that,,, real sorry about that <:) might finish it someday!!
Anyways I made these doodles yesterday and I think it would be good to make them accompany this answer, because Tulio is still my favorite guy to draw ever :]
Another compilation of 31 minutos doodles and lil thingies like an entire page dedicated to color studies!!!! The scrunklies are helping me through my art journey thank you fellas
cute!

This person wrote a manifesto I ain’t reading all that but this is literally the type of behavior im talking about the idea hobbies all cost money is so removed from reality if you have the time to pick up your phone and write 7 paragraphs on how im victimizing you with my offhanded post you have the time to watch a movie on YouTube with your very same phone instead come on now. How is you freaking out on the internet helping any of these issues
things that dont cost money: hiking, walking, birdwatching, identifying plants, drawing (you have a pen, reading (library), collecting rocks, dancing, singing.... etc wtc etc
if you cant find a hobby you can afford, thats a you problem. and if youre posting online, you have a device to do that, get some free games, trawl wikipedia, study something. stop picking fights online and do something else.
if you can write an essay about it on your phone you can write fanfic or poetry or something on your phone also and it will be much nicer for everyone involved, including you
literally did not spend money on my hobby (writing) for yeeears until i got on 4tw and wanted to support the site, and that was totally optional. half the time i typed directly into the ao3 textbox
elaborating on some of the suggestions and adding on a few of my own in case anyone else has been struggling with boredom as much as i have (assumes you at least have a phone or laptop the way the person replying to op does, and that you are poor):
free, do-it-on-the-bus time investment: youtube. if you access it through a browser with an adblocker, you don't even have to watch ads. i love watching people do diy construction projects or landscape aquariums or talk about science. people also upload audiobooks there, if the library isn't an option for you for whatever reason. also, you can find just about any music you'd want to listen to on there (the adblocker trick works here too). also, oldtimey movies—sci-fi, horror, film noir, mystery, romcoms, adventure, comedy.
free, do-it-on-the-bus time investment: there are quite a lot of literary classics in public domain! frankenstein, dracula, moby dick, the great gatsby, the odyssey and the illiad, anne of green gables, alice in wonderland, peter pan, the wizard of oz, sherlock holmes, all of jane austen's works, all of shakespeare's plays...
free, 1+ hour time investment: research and contributing to wikis! i can especially recommend tvtropes for this. tvtropes is good as a hobby because you don't need to rigorously vet your sources to spot tropes and add to pages yourself.
free, do-it-on-the-bus time investment: gaming! if you're on your phone, your phone's "store" has free games, 100%. if you're on a laptop, i can recommend looking at abandonware (higher time investment). on either, here's a database of clicker games, which can be filtered by platform and whether they're paid/free.
free, 1+ hour time investment: giving constructive criticism to free game demos that ask for it on itch.io. look at how they react to others giving concrit if you're unsure! and remember to be nice! but in my experience most devs are really happy that a) someone is playing their game and b) can help them find bugs and refine the experience, especially seeing as most want to sell the finished product.
free, 1+ hour time investment: reviewing books (ARCs) on netgalley! help new authors get a leg up by reading unpublished novels and reviewing them. there are some shenanigans involved in signing up (they act like they need you to be famous but they don't) and you need to actually review most if not all of the books you're given, but i've read a couple of hauntingly beautiful books from there that i never would have known about otherwise. if you're okay with committing to read a possibly janky book, it can be very satisfying.
low cost (<$10), 1+ hour time investment: baking! you can go for the slow stuff (yeast breads), the fast stuff (quick breads), the low effort stuff (no knead sourdough), the high effort stuff (flour tortillas), but almost all of it is going to be super cheap, and some recipes can get as simple as flour and water if you need to, though salt, oil, sugar, and yeast/baking powder are advised. has the added bonus of food at the end, which is very nice when you're poor.
low cost (<$10), do-it-on-the-bus time investment: sketching! dollar stores have journals and pens/pencils, and there are some great free courses on youtube. you can also just do it freehand and enjoy making what you make.
low cost (<$10), 1+ hour time investment: mending! all you really need is a mending kit from the drugstore and a bit of fabric for the backing (could come from the craft section of the dollar store, the "scraps" rack at the craft store, or old sheets or clothes you're okay with cutting up). has the added bonus of keeping your clothes in working condition. i really liked the channel Repair What You Wear for learning the basics.
mid-cost ($10-20), 1+ hour time investment: decorative mending! I've really enjoyed fixing rips and tears by weaving embroidery floss. It's basically the same as mending, but you need needles with bigger eyes and embroidery floss or sashiko thread, which are slightly more expensive.
mid-cost ($10-20), 1+ hour time investment: cooking! you can do this cheaper if you need to (or if you have a solid pantry), and it feels pretty good to make something from raw materials and get to taste it too. it can be an expensive hobby, but a) you need to eat whether you're cooking or not, and b) if you stay away from expensive cuts of meat/fish and esoteric ingredients, it shouldn't add up to more than this. That Lisa Dawn and Dollar Tree Dinners are great resources for stretching very tight budgets.
might add more as they come to me. hopefully this helps someone else!

how others feel about your boundaries is not your responsibility
Something I heard from a friend a few years ago really changed my understanding of boundaries. A boundary is necessarily has to be something you can enforce.
"Do not call me after 9" is not a boundary. I can't control someone else's actions
"I do not pick up the phone after 9" is a boundary, I can choose if I pick up or not

I don’t trust Maroon 5
why
Well first of all there’s 7 band members, not 5. That’s not why I don’t trust them, I just think it’s weird.
Now getting to the point, do you know how many top 100 hits Maroon 5 has had? A lot. They’re even on billboards top 100 artists of all time (ALL TIME). And it’s understandable, because pretty much every song they put out is fucking awesome. Sugar, Don’t Wanna Know, Moves Like Jagger, Payphone, This Love, She Will Be Loved, Cold, Animals, Maps, Misery, Harder to Breathe, Never Gonna Leave This Bed… to name a FEW.
These shitheads have been popping out jams since I was a little kid. Well over a decade worth of killer music. Every other song I hear on the radio is Maroon 5. It’s always Maroon 5. And I fucking love it. I love all their songs. Everyone does, they’re awesome.
But here’s the thing. They’re never the top selling artists. On the top 100 list, they’re only in the 40s. They very rarely have a number 1 hit. They’re considered good, I suppose….. but not great. Not the best.
How many people have you heard say Maroon 5 is their favorite band? For me it’s zero. For many of you, it’s zero. If you’re thinking to yourself “what? No I love them, they’re my fave!” Are you sure? Are you really sure? They’re your absolute complete FAVORITE band ever??? I doubt it. You’re just saying that because the band is on your mind now. If I asked you your fave band any other time you’d come up with another answer. Everyone always does.
But they SHOULD be everyone favorites. Look at all of those songs. They’ve got so many top hits. Everyone loves their music. Everyone sings along and knows the songs. They should be my favorite band, I think I like more of their songs than of my actual favorite artist. But they are not my favorite. They are no ones favorite.
I think they made a deal with someone. Satan? God? A dude down an alleyway? Who knows. But I believe they made a deal to ensure everyone would love their music. And we do. It’s great music.
But the twist is that they’ll never truly be recognized as one of the best. Sure, their songs will play on the radio and everyone will sing along. They’ll have sold out concerts. Plenty of fans. But not enough. They’ll be just good. Never great. Never the best. Even if they should be our favorite, they never will be. They’ll never sell enough albums or have their songs reach as high on the billboards as they should. Everyone loves their music, per the agreement. But no one loves them.
I hope Adam Levine knows I’m on to him. I know what he did.
