April 21 .. birthday greetings and happiness to Ef Mousumi Biswas .. and Ef Arijit Bhattacharya from Kolkata .. 🙏🏽❤️🚩.. the wishes from the Ef family continue with warmth .. and love 🌺

The AI debate became the topic of discussion on the dining table ad there were many potent points raised - bith positive and a little indifferent ..

The young acknowledged it with reason and able argument .. some of the mid elders disagreed mildly .. and the end was kind of neutral ..

Blessed be they of the next GEN .. their minds are sorted out well in advance .. and why not .. we shall not be around till time in advance , but they and their progeny shall .. as has been the norm through generations ...

The IPL is now the greatest attraction throughout the day .. particularly on the Sunday, for the two on the day .. and there is never a debate on that ..

.. and I am most appreciative to read the comments from the Ef on the topic of the day - AI .. appreciative because some of the reactions and texts are valid and interesting to know .. the aspect expressed in all has a legitimate argument and that is most healthy ..

I am happy that we could all react to the Blog contents in the manner they have done .. my gratitude .. such a joy to get different views , valid and meaningful ..

And it is not the end of the day or the debate .. some impressions of the Gen X and some from the just passed Gen .. and some that were never ever the Gen are interesting as well :

The Printing Press (15th Century)

prayers and wishes abound and the time and concentrated effort taken to acknowledge all has been arduous .. but the satisfaction of doing it personally, other than what many think I employ someone to do it , is completely wrong ..

but first a wish for the ‘ashtami’ and also for the ‘saptami’ .. and after the ashtami the navmi .. and the other auspicious final day of navratri coming to an end ..

the saptami was on the 11th ..  navratri ( shashti ) .

.. and the prayers continue for the many that suffer and bear up with the pain of suffering .. 

.. and an observation : it is known fact that many come to the well wishers column and do get their share of attention and love  .. there are many others too and they feel that they get neglected .. 

this can be taken care of .. just get off the list and matter over .. it would be distressing but a solution all the same ..

if the work hours put in and the detail to personal responses can be factored into the course of a day try to understand the enormity of the personal care taken by the moi in responding to each personally and in time ..

yet some have complaints of lack of attention and so forth ..

details are futile .. so .. if there is feeling of discrimination , there is also the liberty to leave .. many have in the past left and I am fine .. life goes on ..

i cannot give personal attention .. 

i also am not responsible for others behaviour ..

i am also not inclined to discriminate and choose one for another ..

i do not read or open discourse that I can feel is seeking address individually ..

i do not also listen or care for the complaints that come from Ef ..

i shall do what is just in my vocabulary .. thats it

A quietude .. a state of stillness calm .. in and over in the ears of music, to bring created melody of emotion to life as it were .. there is that strain that swells above .. for an unknown reason, for that connected wire from the soul to the Almighty or wherever it is that the soul delivers us .. so many theories exist .. so many known unknown and mystical visions .. it is strange ..

On the death bed in 1982 after my accident in ‘Coolie’, and my subsequent recovery thanks to the prayers and wishes of millions and the expertise beyond perfection of the medical facilities and doctors at hand, a fellow colleague, of understandable repute ,  well read and intelligent, queried whether I had met or seen that ‘man with the white beard’ !

It seemed a strange question addressed to me when in those hours and days it was always about the treatment and facilities and equipments and doctors and management physicality ..

It was never understood by me for a considerable period of time .. then it dawned .. he was wondering if I had had that privileged meet with the Almighty .. a description in his being of the Almighty to be in white beard, aged and physically present at the ‘gates of either heaven or hell’ !!

No .. I did not .. and for a while I felt that the question had its audacious moment .. but realised soon enough that perhaps I was not giving a fair reaction to the enquiry .. 

Of course in comatose condition, it is never quite possible to remember the visuals you encounter, surrounded by loud sounding life giving machinery .. its the thirst of water that plagues the mind all the time .. and you know as do the medical assists, that it shall never be given … especially in the event of a stomach surgery .. later, on semi mood or mode, there are more severe hallucinations, of large tracts of ice blocks and floating on them in an endless madness  ..

Voices are on silent mode .. the voice box has been punctured to make way for tubes and instruments of various sizes that penetrate your body to monitor, to feed, to give information and on .. sign languages do not prevail .. no one understands what you are asking or saying .. writing is the only option .. and that is provided, so your condition can be assessed , not for the cause of asking for the acqua !!! 

BUT … since the English language is the language most spoken and understood in the Universe .. the universe of the ICU is absorbed in its folds as well .. the universe being most importantly the nurses in charge who watch over you in diligent hawk like concentration, making sure no untoward secret document is passed on to the family or wife by the bed, is disobedience of the rules .. 

So the human mind filled with the guile of inventiveness , invents a diversion ..

Change the language ..

And because you are in Maharashtra and in an ICU manned by Anglo-Indian staff .. there is little possibility that they would ever be able to understand the sweetest language after French, Bengali ..

SO ..

that surreptitious note to the better half, is expressed in Roman Bengali .. the learning of the scripting that had been ably learnt during the days of the Bengal Chamber of Commerce examinations through the first job offer at Bird’s, had long been forgotten or was beyond ‘rusty’ .. 

Nursing staff at ICU’s or any facility are the most efficient and industrious .. and efficient .. that communique was caught, notified and an immediate ban followed .. so much for secretive ‘bond’ings !!

The solace of solitude is the ultimate .. 

When you are happy by yourself, being alone is not lonely, it’s a relief .. ~ sjM

VESAK .. the day celebrated for the birth of Buddha .. on his enlightened avatar .. also known as Wesak .. Gautam Buddha .. Siddharth Gautam .. the prince who stepped out to discover the realities of the World and devoted the rest of his life in his teachings ..

Our greetings to them that follow Buddhism .. and to the many that seek enlightenment , peace and the wisdom of his learnings ..

Buddha is also referred to by the name of AMITABH .. the name means Everlasting Light, after his divine teachings .. a name very popular among Bengali homes .. often written and pronounced as .. Amitabha, Amitabho, Avitabh ..

During my School and College days and the days we lived in Allahabad and Delhi , the name was a bit of an unknown entity .. unusual for the territory .. and with my surname, a non de plume of my Father’s - Bachchan .. the entire pronounce was a mouthful .. right to the time of my desire to enter the film world .. 

Film names were then, around 1969, simpler sounding and had the ease of pronouncing .. Dilip, Raj, Dev, Shashi, Shammi, Manoj, Jeetendra, Dharmendra, Meena, Madhubala, Nutan, Motilal, Shyam, Kumar .. 

Amitabh Bachchan was difficult to pronounce and too long to be included in the credit title run .. so initially there was recommend for it to be reduced or made simpler .. Mrinal Da’s ‘Bhuvan Shome’ where there was my voice over, carried just Amitabh .. perhaps my first insert in a film credit ..

BUT .. I did not want to lose the entire name and on my insistence the full name started appearing on the credits ..

Of course its pronunciation still has its moments .. often resulting in Ameetav , Aneetav ..  and the surname in the Western world was a confirmed BACHMAN, a BUCHANAN or similar .. 

During my election campaigns in 1984 in Allahabad .. one of the negatives thrown by the opposition towards me would be that since I was not resident of Allahabad, and since I lived in Mumbai, I would be the wrong choice to represent the city ..

So my Father, who was with me during those days, coined a wonderful response ..

He quoted a famous Avadhi quote and responded thus :

“हाथी घूमय गाँव गाँव , जेकर हाथी ओंकार नाओ  !” .. तो ये सच है की मैं दिल्ली में रहा, कलकत्ते में रहा , मुंबई में रहा  … लेकिन जहाँ भी गया , हमेशा कहलाया गया ,,,, ‘ छोरा गंगा किनारे वाला ‘ !!

( “the elephant moves from village to village ; but the one that owns it, that is its name” .. so .. it is true that I moved from Delhi and Calcutta and Mumbai but wherever I went I was always referred to as the ‘guy from the banks of the river Ganga’ - the chora ganga kinare waala  ! )

I think that went down quite well with the audience .. !! after the reference to the song from DON .. 😁 .. and the reference to the Ganga and the city of Allahabad on its banks .. 

‘SHARAABI’ .. I am being informed by several Ef has complete many years of its release and presence .. and there is much to say about it ..  but perhaps later in the day .. need to get ready and leave for shoot and prosthetics and dialogue learnings .. aahh !  the compulsions of professionalism .. !!

Generation has moved on .. live and rest with the ones that rule the realm now .. they have unconnected vision or information of that which dwelled before .. they have rights and manner of conduct and work in complete difference to the days gone by .. and there is surprise and wonder on learning that what they exist with now was never with us then .. 

I learn .. and understand .. they are with facility .. we were not .. the next generation shall perhaps be in some condition as mine now to comment similarly when this generation fades .. but till then, it is a revealing chapter in the minds of us that have seen 5 decades pass by ..

The ease of choice .. the unlimitations of getting that which was unthinkable then  .. and the non surprise of new and fresh and world wised possession .. 

The opportunity of vocations now .. the absence of it then .. 

The presence of multiple goods now to the limited and monotonous products then ..

Then it was just a Bata .. then the very best mobility was the Ambassador or the Landmaster , the Fiat nothing more .. no AC or weather controlled vehicles .. no weather controlled movie theatres .. limited eateries .. limited fashion or simply no fashion at all ..

…. and many such ..

but there was heart and love and concern and considered bearings .. not that it is not there now , it is and shall be .. but then it was a functional norm .. now perhaps functional perhaps a norm ..

I live 14 hours in the company of generation now, with work .. 4 hours of sleep .. 3 hours of committed travel within the city .. the balance 3 hours of deliberations of common kind .. and 24 hours pass by ..

Maybe they passed then too .. but they were seen and felt as they passed by .. 

They be not felt or seen now .. what is seen or felt is the deliberations of work and the earning it shall commit to ..

The maturity of this astounds .. I seek questions and information of the unknown .. they do the answers, they do not seek .. and even if they were to be stuck they have ready immediate personal access to that machination of millions .. holding listening stuck to the ear .. communicating or gaining information by the swipe of the toe finger , or the index .. to what is now a vocabulary definitive - the App ..

Life now is APPed .. or Blutoothed .. and at the very best Youtubed  !

Blogged, FacedBooked and Twittered, through Instagrammed presence .. it pours in through every pore of the body .. relentless, restless , restructured, rebuilt …  persistent, continuing, constant, continual, continuous, non-stop, lasting, never-ending, steady, uninterrupted, unabated, unbroken, interminable, incessant, unstoppable, unceasing, endless, unending, perpetual, unremitting, unrelenting, unrelieved, sustained; unfaltering, unflagging, untiring, unwavering, unswerving, undeviating, persevering, determined, resolute, purposeful, dogged, single-minded, tireless, indefatigable, patient, diligent, assiduous, sedulous, tenacious, pertinacious, insistent, importunate; stubborn, intransigent, obstinate, obdurate

.. the gloom of depression surrounds us each day .. events circumstances prevail upon us .. but to linger in their sorrow, in their cheerlessness would stop the world from rotating on its axis .. the wheel of fortune is the perpetual step ladder that moves continuously .. seamlessly transporting us to destinations which compassed by emotion and faith and belief , make another day in life , driven as it were in consonance with our own individual reckoning ..

.. and another day beckons us ..

.. with complicated technology and the reckoning of work in professional surroundings .. being that which is asked to be .. delivering that which is designed to be .. accomplishing that which bears the acceptance of the makers ..

.. its coming on to night and the work continues .. assiduously determinedly and with the grace of contractual delivery .. nothing else matters .. no personal grief or celebration .. become the nature of the demand and fulfil the desired result ..

irrespective ..

 .. and later in the warmed comfort of the heated room , to reminisce to think back on the day and be with all again ..

.. no Ef birthdays .. no Sunday at the gates of Jalsa .. and no effort left undone to connect with the loved Ef’s of this three thousand nine hundred and twenty eighth , BLOG .. 

.. at times it seems most daunting, but its reality is there for all .. all that have been with us , lent their support, in mind and in opinion and collected this incredible family to give it a world wide recognition .. it is quite simply is an unbelievable feat .. and its entire credit goes to those of you Ef that have continued to contribute to it and keep it breathing ..

.. breathing for it to survive , as I breathe in the sun and the lights of work and JHUND ..

.. one never knows who or when an encounter shall occur as you leave for work .. so ever its a head down, speeded feet, shades of the dark on the eyes and into the waiting mobility to whisk one away to work ..

.. until of course you find that there is International recognition on the way .. and that universal study of recognition , the Selfie prevails ..

.. done and off ..

.. concentration is the key for the day in front of the lens .. never ever take that for granted .. when it rolls it captures for posterity that can perhaps never be given opportunity for change or correction .. through the ages .. 

.. SO get it right or get out .. :))

.. no point in searching the papers for recognition , until the labour of your effort is not valid enough .. it will appear if your appear is worth its while .. 

.. YES .. at times the heavens would help .. but not ever ..

.. and so it begins and the make up Deepak comes across after the first shot and announces : 

“ek aur meter down ho gaya .. badhai  ; एक और मीटर डाउन हो गया , बधाई”

.. there is that ritual exchange and words of encouragement or call it an odd discipline, when first days are given some divine embrace of a deed to be done in the remembrance of the Heavens .. for protection, for support and for its ultimate success ..

.. the coconut be broken , the imagery of the God Ganesh, given the respect of protection and then the beginning .. protection, preservation and providence .. that is all we seek , all the rest of it comes through some other force that awakens at the sound of clamming and record .. taken out .. as they would say at the time .. nikaal diya .. taken out .. canned .. or that was what was done in the time of film , celluloid film .. not anymore .. now its the chip with countless banks of repeats and consumptions .. any number ..

.. a boon to the modern makers .. a hindrance to most of us that have lived and struggled through the 60′s 70′s and the 80′s ..

why .. ??

well .. because the fear of expending the most expensive material on set - the film of .. as we would often say KODAK .. to save this most important ingredient, expensive and ever in short supply for its import and its duty .. 

.. with the digital there is never a fear of a cut or a retake .. unlike the earlier days when asking for a retake was a bended knee folded hands plead .. and still not given .. Hrishi Da used to say “ you pay for that retake if you want one” !! hehahahaha ..

.. also the ability of a director was gauged in film procedure .. he had to be absolutely planned out how the scene would edit and how to be shot at which angle and lens .. nothing could be tried or tested .. it was IT ..

NOW ..

its endless takes with endless angles, with endless lens change .. and endless retakes .. not so much from the artist, but more from the director, giving him as many options he wanted for his edit ..

.. for us that survived through the 60′s not messing up your lines was primary .. forgetting cues, lines, meant another shot, another exposer of film and another loss of a job for the next film ..

aah .. the age of exceedingly modern technology .. takes care of every possible issue or problem during the making ..

The millions of miles of information on events on opinions on observations on happenings on reviews and re reviews on dissent and ascent on what mine is and what theirs is on the mediums of plenty now so readily available and extended in its reach to every corner of the Universe .. 

IT IS TIRING .. and its consumption is the addiction worse than that of a drug infested in rehab existence .. strapped, immovable, conditioned and cautioned at each step, to repair damaged beings and to get them free of induction again ..

.. the space reserved for the more authentic thoughts that the cerebrum judiciously accommodates, has been pushed aside and usurped by the cyclonic ferocity of endless wordology .. if ever there was such expression !

.. bombarded and torn apart it now reflects a battle field aftermath .. where expressions sounds and any reflection of a life are unavailable .. the search for the expressions that need to be expressed is not even being found in the googled regime .. so .. 

time to say .. the obvious .. 

this is available and in design and form ..

.. they ask me its Sunday when do you rest .. I have no answer for them except, I really don’t know whether there is a need to rest, or not .. they cheer and laugh .. many salute in appreciation, and others look on .. but never a moment when the smile leaves their faces .. 

.. they be the audience that comes to the show KBC .. learned and loving .. cheerful and cheering .. and ever becoming a part of the show .. which I must say at times tests their nerves .. with long hours of wait both outside in the waiting area and on set where they have to be at their best discipline .. they are the ones that I prepare for .. they are the ones that I wish to not keep waiting … they are the ones that provoke the show and me to be what we be during the recording of each episode ..

.. my blessings to them then, my humble reach out to them, my sincere love for them .. they are the ones responsible for the success or failure of the show ..

when they react , I do too, the contestant does and so do the rest of the audience that watches it on Tv .. my gratitude then for them all ..

.. it is the Sunday .. it is that time of the week when the well wishers come to the gates of Jalsa, to cheer and see and meet the inhabitant of the home .. at times and at most times I am at home and do go out to meet and see them .. but on days when I am out of the city, or busy at work, there is a lapse, a disappearance of the entity that resides in J ..

.. AND STILL THEY COME ..

.. this is terribly unfair to them that collect at the gates .. I do try and inform the gate that I shall not be able to come .. they in turn inform the fans .. yet they come .. and hope that somehow miraculously I shall appear ..

sorry .. I am at work for KBC .. the special episode dedicated to the weaker sections of society or achievements made in a field of sports .. and for young entrepreneurs is titled KBC Karmveer .. and the honour is given to them in the nation that have given sufficient time and work for the community in general ..

.. so .. what does one address those that are attached to the working of the show .. O dear never ask that, for there are at least 500 of them spread all over the country ..

.. so what does it mean ..? .. it means there is sufficient proof to justify the process of the working of the Game show !

.. all of that went into the explanation of the rules and regulations of the show .. and then you are on your own .. desperate delighted and devastated by the sheer volume of work that goes on in the designing of the programme ..

.. a rather stern look , a look that signifies nothing more than what has been generated via some rapid education senses .. so play well, because this is the last refuge of a contestant .. the books that carry admission are set aside .. its you yours and yours only !!

.. I do enjoy the experience of spending time with this writer and hope to be able to get in for my good mark sheets along the way, and determine ourselves what the child wishes to go and do .. 

tests are done when the kid has just about started to crawl .. relevant objects are placed in its path and which ever one the child touches or picks up, that person shall have to bear the brunt of the media trial that has emerged recently. ..

.. for some it seems like the end of the world ; they have been tracking it for long and reached no solution ; for some its a revelation ..

SO .. as you drive in for the Day into your little space, you have the bare minimum to resolve any untoward misunderstanding of the situation .. you have the history of a fresh new contestant , his or her background, their condition, and so there, the  ghare ki beti aur kya karegi .. ? but they always have somewhere to go, something to do, and throw into a trance the music of the branches , leaves or trunks of the tree in particular, and in incessant pooja, become the attraction of the day .. !!

.. the head swings .. the body alarm gets me up and going and I must realise that it is telling me to get to bed ..

what of the history that has remained unrecorded .. unrecorded in the minds and words that never saw a pen or paper or stone boulders .. what of the spoken word .. science hears the music of the stars and all that perpetuates in space and in galaxies .. logic then that every word or sound emitted ever by man should be ‘hanging around’ .. and the day - or has the day already been passed - it happens , the reality of the minds and speak of so many shall be known .. truths and untruths shall unfold .. impressions and contradictions shall emerge .. reasons and the truest arguments of debates shall be known .. what went on behind decisions , what and why behaviour behaved the way it did .. who actually meant what they expressed .. who did not ..

.. the mystery of mysteries shall be known ; or should one say exposed .. for exposer shall have an altogether different mean .. a mean meaner than many should or would have imagined ..

what then .. what then would be the value of information .. !!!

.. would we live till that occurrence , or would the forces of the powerful, store, capture and gain patent over it, to be used forced executed on terms and conditions , stipulated and controlled by them .. for if that were to be so , the wheels of life and time and existence would begin to churn as they do now in present times .. no different from any developed expectation ..

Sundays shall come and Sundays shall go .. my love for them shall never forego .. we are in the midst of this special time .. we are in the midst of the most sublime .. the wait is long, the duration short .. emotions of mine are never distraught ..

Moved and filled with the multitude generosity  .. my cup of love floweth over its capacity ..
