You shift where you are standing, uncomfortable. It’s no longer quite so difficult to maintain balance on your prosthetics, but you don’t think you will ever be used to waiting around for your captain while she goes about her business. For all that she prances around practically in rags, you still feel too plainly dressed for the venue you’ve found yourself in - surrounded by velvet and seadwellers, you can barely bring yourself to look up from the ground of the little corner you’re situated in, barely any distance from the door.

The key word is barely, you think as you stare at the embroidered hem of someone’s gown. There’s pearls on it, and you feel like some sort of urchin for how you want to just… snag one. Not that one would be enough for your skirt, but you could attach it to the ribbon of your braid, maybe…

Something flickers in the corner of your eye, and you twitch to look over, automatic.

It’s - a helmsman. No, three helmsmen, with beautifully painted prosthetics, and matching jewelry, and expensive fabrics, and - goodness, you really are just tatty in comparison. You should duck your head back down and wait for Bonnie to finish her delivery, but you can’t quite help peering at them, halfway across the room and beautiful.

Maalik turns to say something to Galena, some offhand comment about Madam Such And Such’s gown, when he catches her staring off across the room. He’s momentarily outraged -so rude, doesn’t she know that she should be paying attention?- before he makes out what she’s staring at, a little rustbl maroon standing awkwardly across the room, and his outrage dissipates, leaving behind a nigh-predatory interest. 

She’ll be much more interesting than any of these highblooded partygoers. Lowbloods are just so much more innocent, and they say the cutest things! Though that innocence can be abused, of course, like that poor goldie from the other night’s so clearly was. But it wouldn’t do to think of them now! This is a party.
