When i take a deep breath and look in the mirror and suddenly i'm 14 years old sobbing and asking my mom why my friends don't hang out with me outside of school and then i tilt my head a certain way and suddenly i'm 8 years old and overhearing my classmates talk about a birthday party i wasn't invited to.
Sometimes i get really sad that i dont have like really close friends. Like people to text outside of group chats and to hang out with randomly. I always end up doing things with my boyfriend bc i dont know who else to do them with and i love him but i also wish i had like Best friends. People i can talk to about anything and just hang out with on a whim and idk if its the autism or if im genuinely just not someone thats likable enough to be wanted around. I feel like im only ever wanted in group settings and even then i feel like im on the outside and its not even for lack of trying i do try and make plans and be in conversations and people insist they love me and want me around but im never anyones first pick when it comes to friendships like im not the person people think to invite places i just have to happen to be there when plans are made or make the plans myself and even then its rare the plan actually comes to fruition . I just want like a best friend i can go grab coffee with and giggle about things with like that platonic soulmate i see everyone else have . And i feel so guilty for this bc i love my boyfriend and he is my best friend but it will never be in the way having a genuinely platonic love is. And i love my friends with all my heart and soul and i give and give to try and make me seem like someone you could want around but i can't crack the code i can't figure out how to be wanted.
Sometimes i think i'm not that autistic then I'm around a group of people and I panic because I'm not sure how to react or I say something and it wasn't the right thing to say or someone says something but i'm not sure if it was a joke or serious and i realize oh i really am autistic i am never going to fit in naturally i am always going to slightly be on the outside. I am always going to have to work to say things correctly and in the right tone and work to study tone and body language to understand this secret way that people communicate. I will never be socially adept the way i long to be.

nothing feels as good as starting to read again when you haven’t held a book in your hand for such a long time and now the setting sun is in your room and there’s paper under your fingers and you feel so good about letting the words float into you again
It’s honestly not that hard to think about why autistic adults are often undiagnosed when you realize that the criteria for an autism diagnosis usually fits young children and not teenagers or young adults, and this especially applies if you’re afab because it’s also typically reserved for young boys.

Being a good person is a choice. Don’t let people fool you into believing that truly good people never have bad thoughts, are never tempted by the easier path, by the low road, never mess up or act out selfishly. Never believe a person can be good without making a conscious effort.
