The Mind's Eye turned 1 today!
A world lies beneath for all to see, A world of slaves who envy the free Slaves to the land and their hearts of ice Enslaved to a life dictated by price The only unchained are the birds who fly They flee from those who would empty the sky For the chained of the world, it is a matter of time Before one dares to commit the terrible crime To shoot and down the ones who soar To chain them to the despondent floor
Batteries
Monotonously doing the same job Without ever a smile or ever a sob They live their lives in anonymity linked to each other by synonymity They follow the current wherever it leads Robbed of everything but their needs Enslaved to some unknown cause Continuing for eternity without pause Interchangeable like honeybees Forever doomed to be batteries --
I'm posting this but it was actually written by my partner on this blog, Matt. :)
Eye of the Storm
Turbulently, the torrents turn The swirling fire can only burn A ripping, shredding mass of destruction Constant and enduring without need of resurrection In the depths of the abyss, beyond the maelstrom There lies a haven of safe and calm Here isolated from help or harm I stay eternally in the eye of the storm
Reread Me
You would always come back to me. I was your favorite book that you’d reread Over and over again. But today you casually flipped Through my pages And seemed unfamiliar with the Folded corners and the faded words, The meaningful notes you made in the margins. Today as you passed, The look you gave Made me realize that you’d put Me on the shelf again, this time it might be for good. But here’s the thing: Every time you see me, every time we pass You’ll remember those corners and words and margins You may long to reread my story again, That would be convenient and ideal. But I’m sure you’re reading other books, Folding other corners, making other notes. Learning new things and traveling to new worlds. And I’ll remain here in our little library, Stuck on the shelf where you found me first, Stuck in my world Of playtime and make believe. And maybe one day, someone new will come And pull me from the shelf, Becoming mesmerized. Never mind the unlikelihood, Just listen to the scenario. When this someone new Has pulled me down into his lap On a rainy day to read my contents And mull them over Promise me that, whether this new reader Decides that I’m his new favorite book And keeps me for years to come, Or puts me back when he’s done, No matter what, you’ll return To pick me back up for a little while, Rereading where you left off And making me feel like I have Something of substance to offer. Promise me, no matter how long my story is, No matter how many chapters or pages I have, No matter how many volumes, You’ll come back sometime and Reread me. — It’s really long, but it has an extended metaphor. :) Thoughts?
So Badly
I could make you want me so badly it would hurt. I could remind you of everything You said, of the smiles, Of the hugging, of the nicknames Of the laughing, of the joking and the perfection. I could make you miss me so badly it would hurt. I could make you see everything You were to me, when you should be Nothing at all. You should be nothing at all. I could make you need me so badly it would hurt. I’d make you desire to be kissed, to want for my lips. And I’d make it such a fire, I’d make it burn so bright, you’d beg to me put it out And sigh in relief once I do. I could make you love me so badly it would hurt. I’d render you helpless, make you watch my every move. Leave you hanging on my words as they tumble from my lips. I’d make you love my every flaw, more than my perfections. And when I finally make you want me, Just know it won’t be easy. Know it will come with pain, know there will be a chase. Know you’ll have to work and do more than you may think. Because I already want you so badly that it hurts. — May revise.
Hopes For December
There are only a few hours left in November, And already I’m thinking of all that I want. So here’s my list of hopes for December, Everything that would make things perfect: I hope December brings lots of warm smiles, And scarves and winter boots with high heels I hope it comes with tight, swaying hugs from friends And terms of endearment for all that are near. I hope December comes with lots of singing, Caroling until the moment it’s no longer acceptable. I hope it comes with granted wishes and hand holding And strengthened, unbreakable, unshakable friendships. I hope December ushers in show tunes and dance moves, And corny, uncalled for acts of unnecessary chivalry. I hope it brings beautiful, unforgettable moments for all And I hope it brings you back around, but that’s not necessary. I just hope December brings happiness in such a crazy world. -- Written November 30th. Not a favorite, but I had the idea. :)
How I Would Write Of You
I could use every word I’ve ever known To pen you down for all future posterity And I would hide these sentiments away. I could doodle you in the corners of my papers And write you down in my notebooks forever. I could scribble your essence on every surface. I could make sure that you would never fade, But writing of things I cannot have will only Make me forget all my many blessings. But oh, my darling, how I would write of you.
Better Off On My Own
I need someone who will kiss Each of my mental scars and Wait until they have faded away.
And I truly believe that he Does not exist and if he does, He is laughing at my misery. I would like to think it’s because He knows he is the only one who Could fix each of my broken pieces. But maybe it’s because he sees That I am hopeless and much too Radical and stubborn in my ways. And if that’s the case, I think that I Don’t need him anyway, because I am Capable of standing independently. And at this point, I’m too tired to think And I realize that solitude isn’t to be feared. I think I am so much better off on my own.
Phoenix
Falling; Leaping from the cliffs Into an abyss of but's and if's All around, the world is turning All around. Burning, Burning Nothing remains for eyes to see Only the mist and dreams of what can be Out of despair there comes a bright spark That which once was is no longer dark Flying; Surging; Climbing higher Into the light; out of the fire
Starfall
1 Whenever a murderer’s gun fires, Who thinks about the loss it inspires? Look around! Who recalls? When a soul is lost, a star falls. 2 When a militant sets a bomb, Does he think of the lives he’s going to rob? Look around! Who recalls? When a soul is lost, a star falls. 3 When a starving child is denied food, How does one ignore the possible good? Look around! Who recalls? When a soul is lost, a star falls. 4 When a blind man shivers in the rain, Is he alone in bearing his pain? Look around! Who recalls? When a soul is lost, a star falls. 5 When a man is laid to rest, Do we not treat him as the best? Look around! Who recalls? When a soul is lost, a star falls.

Just Kiss Me
Kiss me quick before I lead Down this broken road into That which is unknown. (You know I could never leave you.) Well, kiss me quick before I find Someone new who makes me feel Just as special as you do. (That’s a lie. I could never move on.) Okay, kiss me quick before I change My mind and send you back the way You came into my life: without warning. (I don’t mean it, I couldn't turn you away.) Fine, just kiss me quick before I abandon the Little bit of common sense that still graces My being in my state of temporary insanity. (Just kiss me quick before I lose what’s left of my mind.) — Just an idea. Not the best I've written, but it’s something. Like: The contradictory statements. Dislike: The wrapping sentences. I really dislike doing that, but I think it works. Thoughts, beautiful people? :)
Goodnight
Should you need me when I wake, I'll be here to ease your sorrows And hear your problems and kiss Your pain away. But this all must Unfortunately wait until I reopen my eyes. Please, dearest, promise me you'll reopen yours too. -- Started as a goodnight and ended as a poem. Haha, I guess that's the curse of being a writer. Goodnight, beautiful people!
Digging Metaphorical Holes
I compared my feelings for the last guy To digging a metaphorical hole. The more I spoke of him and let him take me over, The more dirt I threw out of this bottomless pit. And when I finally let him go, I swore I’d never Let it happen again. Never again would I feel this Way unless absolutely necessary. And then there was You. You came along and shook my weak foundation. But it’s the way that you hug me, the way that you smile. It’s your cute little nickname for me, or your warm brown eyes. It’s the way that although I hate to admit it, I look for you everywhere. It’s how you come and go, swell and grow. It’s how you inspire me. So I guess I’ll start digging another metaphorical hole right next To the one I just finished. I can only hope that this hole will become A tunnel or at the very least lead to another hole. Another hole would Be brilliant, because I’m digging my own metaphorical hole and I can’t stop. I can only hope that if I reach another hole that hole will have been dug by you. — Like: The use of the “metaphorical hole.” The hole was born in a conversation that I had with a friend, and somehow it became inspiration. Dislike: I’m not sure. I feel like I didn’t go in depth enough into “the hole” and all that it stands for, but I was afraid to start rambling. So tell me if you understand? :) Thoughts, beautiful people? Leave me love!
I Used To Dream of You
You lifted me from the ground And you looked at me with those eyes You twirled me around like I was weightless As you lifted me toward the skies. As I laughed and asked to be put down, You placed me down on the floor. You left a kiss up on my cheek And my pulse began to soar. And though you’ve left my mind And though you’ve escaped my dreams This is my lasting memory of you Because it was as beautiful as it seemed.
— So, I wrote this for another contest on allpoetry. As much as I hate to revisit the past, this is about a dream I had about the guy I liked before the new guy. Still a beautiful memory, I guess.
Gone Till November
I asked you to wake me once September was over, And you graciously let me sleep through the chill. I requested that you collect October's every fallen leaf And hide them away for me until I could decide their use. And now it is almost November, so close to the end of a year As well as the beginning of another, a new chance. As much as I would love to stay and suffer through the cold months, I'll be gone till November, gone till it's over, gone till it's warm again. Please tell me you'll be here when I return.
