Elden Ring’s release has me a touch concerned. I realize the pandemic has messed up game development all around, but major game mechanics and npc plots aren’t on the original build, on the discs sold in stores. More games are relying on day 1 patches and shipping unfinished games.

GOTY editions and remaster, Dark Souls 3 Fire Fades Edition that bundle in dlc and are the finished game are great steps towards better game archiving. If the disc doesn’t contain the finished game that’s gonna be a problem down the line when servers are shut off like they recently did for PS3 and WiiU.

Remember to keep fully installed versions of games you like on consoles or hard drives for access. Especially if they’re a generation behind.

Dark Souls 1 was a world tour. We had Florida (Blighttown), Australia (Lost Izalith), and even the Netherlands once those damn levees finally give in (New Londo Ruins). From then on, they got more focused.
