Hope you and Sky have a wonderful Christmas. Don’t work too hard saving the world. And remember, if you need a hand with any less then savory characters give us a ring. Could always use something to spice up the holiday. -GL
To: Gregory Lestrade
From: Sarah Jane Smith
Thank you Greg, and a Merry Christmas to you, too! Sky, Luke and I had a wonderful holiday. I will definitely keep you in mind if we need any help in the future. You are also more than welcome to stop by the house if you happen to be in the area. Just let us know! -Sarah
“Right, bench.” he had no idea why there was a bench in the frozen meats section but then he recalled it was an older neighborhood and a lot of the elderly seemed to shop here. It only made sense that the market cater to their customer demographic.
He wondered for a moment if he should pick…
The bag of peas felt cool against Sarah’s ankle and when she realize it only looked worse than it actually was, she realized that maybe she could find that Cyber-ship!
But apparently Greg had seen something too. While she really only trusted Luke, Rani, Clyde and Sky with information such as this, maybe there was a way she could tell Greg without making him think she was crazy.
“Sort of both actually,” she began. “I was doing some shopping when I saw them and I was curious because I’d never seen them before,” a sort of half- truth; it had been ages since she’d seen a Cyber-mat. “It also reminded me of one of those new mini- vacuums, and I thought I’d take a closer look.”
By now they’d been sitting there for a few minutes, and Sarah was hoping to try and see if her leg would hold her balance. “Do you think we could try it?” As she spoke, she heard the familiar footfalls of a Cyberman coming toward them.
Gregory Lestrade: The Journalist and the Detective-Inspector || Sarah Jane Smith and Greg Lestrade
Greg leaned back on his ankles and surveyed the leg closer, removing the peas long enough to see if the ankle was still swelling. "I think you might be able to walk on it but don't force yourself Sarah Jane." He shifted so that he was standing and extended a hand to her. "Here, let me help you.
He waited till she took his hand before pulling her up and back to her own feet. The peas fell away from her ankle and while Greg was still worried about her putting pressure on her leg, the Cyberman made it's way closer and closer to the two of them.
The screams clued Greg in that something wasn't right. He turned his attention away from Sarah long enough to spot the Cyberman making it's way across the grocery store, a few similar models following after it, spouting nonsense.
"What the hell is that," he mumbled, hand reaching instinctively for his gun but there was nothing to grab onto. 'Damn it."
Sarah took Greg's hand and precariously made to stand on her injured foot, gingerly putting pressure on it as she heard the Cybermen draw nearer. She could hear screaming from somewhere in the store and she stiffened, fearing for those people who were in danger.
At Greg's muttered curse, she looked up to see a trio of Cybermen making their way toward them, muttering their nonsense about upgrading the human race. It was times like this that Sarah wished the Doctor was nearby. But she had no idea where he was and hadn't seen him since the false funeral the Shansheeth had tried to fool her with.
She gripped Greg's shoulder with one hand while she fumbled in her purse with the other. Within seconds, she had gripped her sonic lipstick and raised it from the depths of her bag. She pressed the button on the side and immediately it made the little buzzing noise that halted the Cybermen in front of them.
Meeting Greg's surprised and rather confused look, she stated quickly, "Sonic lipstick. But they've only been disarmed for a few moments. We need to hurry and get away before they reanimate."
Try to break my muse with five words.

Bruising? Why the hell hadn’t he been looking where he was going. Greg moved around his trolley and reached a hand out to help steady the woman. She looked to be about his age, possibly younger but he was always rather awful at guessing how old people were.
“Uh…Greg, no, I mean, Lestrade but you can call me Greg,” he flashed an apologetic look her way, then noticed a flash out of the corner of his eye. Was that a rat? In the supermarket? No. Couldn’t be, the think was far to shiny to be a rat. Maybe one of those new automatic cleaners he’d heard about.
Turning back to the woman, he noticed the wince, his eyes landing on her ankle. He must have run into her harder then he’d thought. “Maybe you should sit down, keep weight off of it.” he suggested, trying to support her more so she didn’t have to balance on her own.
Sarah Jane was grateful for the support. Greg Lestrade certainly knew what he was doing. “I think it’ll be fine, Greg,” she replied, even though she really did want to take any sort of weight off it for the time being.
All thoughts of resting were suddenly taken from her mind when she say the Cybermat run by again, and she saw that Greg had seen it too. She seriously considered making an excuse to run after it, to see if it was reporting back to a group of Cybermen in the vicinity of the supermarket.
But then she remembered her ankle. It would be at least a day before she would be properly back on her feet and she wouldn’t be able to limp away from aliens. She wasn’t planning on it either.
She nodded. “But if you insist, I think there’s a bench just over there by the frozen meats section. I don’t think it’ll be too far.”
“Right, bench.” he had no idea why there was a bench in the frozen meats section but then he recalled it was an older neighborhood and a lot of the elderly seemed to shop here. It only made sense that the market cater to their customer demographic.
He wondered for a moment if he should pick her up and take her to the bench but then he didn’t really know this woman and he didn’t exactly want to scare her off. Normal men didn’t do that to people they’d just met in the super market. Even if that person was injured.
Wrapping his arm around her for better support, he took the weight of her one side on himself, then together they walked in the direction of said bench. Greg had all but forgotten his trolley now as he helped Sarah to sit. Then kneeling down he took a look at her leg.
“Do you mind? I just want to make sure there’s no swelling yet,” he looked up at her for approval, smiling to reassure her he wasn’t a creep. “We could probably put a bag of frozen peas on it if you like.”
Sarah nodded, wincing slightly as they slowly made their way to the bench. She usually didn't shop here, but it had been close to the house, far closer than the one she usually went to and she'd wanted to be nearby in case Sky and Rani had needed anything. That, along with the news of the Cybermat had sealed the deal.
Now, she was glad she had, otherwise she never would have met Greg Lestrade here in the frozen meats section. Not that she should make it a habit.... Imagine what Aunt Lavina would have said!
His arms were wrapped around her waist and she was gripping his shoulder with one hand while the other felt out the wall for the bench as she tried to balance herself and Greg out. She gratefully accepted Greg's offer of frozen peas when she finally sat down.
"Thank you, she said when he gently placed them on her ankle. "That's really kind of you. And I'm sorry for not introducing myself before this whole thing. I'm Sarah Jane Smith, I'm a freelance journalist in Ealing."

Sarah Jane was at the supermarket. It looked to be another quiet evening at home that night. Luke was still at Oxford, of course, while Sky was with Rani having a sleep-over. Sarah Jane had encouraged the whole thing, telling Sky that this was what teenage girls did for fun on weekends, besides going out to movies and parties and the like.
Suddenly there was a soft scrabbling noise and Sarah Jane looked up in time to see a shadow turn the corner and disappear from sight. From the sight of it, it looked like a Cybermat. Sarah grinned; she hadn’t seen one of those in a long time.
She pulled the sonic lipstick from her purse and walked to the end of aisle, and made to turn the corner, only to crash headlong into another shopping cart, this one manned by a man about her age dressed business casual and with silvery-black hair.
Greg had decided to take advantage of his single day off to restock his cupboards at home. Having two growing children staying with him on the weekends reminded Greg that he should probably make sure there was more in the cupboards and fridge then PG tips and a few bottles of beer. No, children needed actually food and none of that frozen nonsense that Sylvia seemed to be shoving on them when she was to tired to cook. No, if he was going to be a good father and earn back everything he’d lost over the past two years, he would have to start with the simple health aspect.
Greg looked down at the trolley and shrugged at the sight of a box of cookies. You couldn’t win with everything. He knew for a fact that the kids wouldn’t like his shoving vegetables down their throat all the time. A few cookies here and there wouldn’t hurt and besides, he knew these were Linden’s favorite.
He was leaning on the trolley turning the corner of the next aisle in search of a particular cereal he knew Daniel enjoyed when his cart crashed headlong into that of a woman roughly his age, her lipstick case in hand.
“Christ,” he jumped back from his trolley and dashed around the metal cart to her. “I’m so sorry. I didn’t see you there. Are you alright?”
Sarah had not been expecting the other cart, that was true. But she should have known that there would have been other shoppers at the store that night. Cybernats should have been the least of her worries.
“It’s nothing,” she said quickly. “I’m sure I’ll be fine. Maybe some bruising, but nothing too bad.” She paused, still seeing no sign of the Cybernat. It must have gone back to the mothership.
She winced as she put some weight on the ankle that had hit the cart, confirming that there would no doubt be a bruise and then turned back to the man she’d run into. “I’m so sorry about that. This doesn’t usually happen to me, I can assure you, Mr. —?”
Bruising? Why the hell hadn’t he been looking where he was going. Greg moved around his trolley and reached a hand out to help steady the woman. She looked to be about his age, possibly younger but he was always rather awful at guessing how old people were.

I’m Sarah Jane Smith. You can call me Sarah. And you look very handsome today.
Well thank you Sarah, you’re looking rather beautiful too.
This may sound strange but…I have this strange feeling in my gut that’s telling me I’ve been waiting my entire life for this moment.
Well, thank you, John. I feel quite honored to have someone say so.
And don’t worry. I was about to say something similar. It seems as though I’ve finally found the one man I’ve been looking for since….. Well, for a very, very long time!
Do you believe in love at first sight Sarah?
Being here with you, I feel like anything is possible. So sod it. I know we’ve only just met but I want to spend the rest of my life with you. If you’ll have me.
It's funny you should ask that, because before I met you, I never really thought of love at first sight as a real thing.
But you know what, you're right. Anything is possible. Life is supposed to be this big adventure, and I think we should start out on the next part of it together. You're more than welcome to come with me, John.

DAMN, where the hell did you come from gorgeous?
I could ask you the same question, handsome.
God, even your voice does things to me. I’m John. John Watson.
