Like I don't think there will ever be a shooting as famous as columbine. The thing about columbine is it happened in pretty much just the right time. There were shooters before columbine, but they were both the first to really cement the idea of a school shooter. A lot of that is that they very intentionally cultivated the right image. It's not even about the kill count. They're is shooters that were more successful than columbine but they are still nowhere near as notorious because they just didn't cultivate the image that hit the press the same way.
EH and DK were not the most successful shooters, but what they did changed a lot as they did it in the right time and the media grabbed onto them as scary figures.
Also so much has changed since columbine. School shootings are seen as a fairly common event now. Like if you opened the news and saw a shooting happen it wouldn't be so much shock you felt but a sense of like "this again". When columbine happened happened it was a pretty huge shock to everyone. The media won't care in the same way, as it happens so often. It will be brought up for a day and then dropped.
Also, a lot of new perps very plainly copy their homework, which also means you just look like a columbine larp which isn't a new category. And columbine larps just aren't interesting, and anything they did would just be tied back to columbine.
There will never be a shooting that will have the same impact on columbine-the closest is sandy hook I think, and a lot of that was because of the fact it was an elementary school and Adam was very obviously sick.
If you are extremely lucky you might have a very small fanbase but nothing like columbine.
I'm personally not even sure how columbine could be topped. Maybe if someone got a ridiculous number of kills (like over 100 maybe??) and wasn't an obvious larper. However, getting kills is a lot harder now (due to tighter protocol in the event of a shooting) so if someone could reach that number is extremely doubtful.
conclusion: don't be a perp for columbine fame, you won't get it.

In retrospect Aileen did not deserve the death penalty. Cold take, ik but it just kinda hit me. There are men who have genuinely done so much worse and didn't get the death penalty (jeffrey dahmer, david parker ray theres def more but I cant think)
