We had so much fun (and made so much mess!) at We Are Family with artist Shaun Doyle last weekend. Gallery 3 was transformed into a space exploring anti-gallery values and the punk attitude as part of the Moving Targets programme. Families created a full scale cardboard drum kit (which sounded amazing and very loud!), threw wet tissue at the gallery walls, made and destroyed junk guitars, spun a giant web across the gallery, transformed themselves with punk inspired outfits and accessories made from recycled and found materials, and all to a soundtrack of classic punk tunes to get the creative juices flowing.
Family storytelling session on the Ballast Seed Garden this Saturday. The sun shone for the first time all week as Cassandra Wye regaled us with stories of the garden’s wonderful plants and their fantastic properties.
This morning saw our galleries temporarily taken over for our half term workshop with artist Anna Orton. After exploring our current exhibition, Art From Elsewhere, the group explored their own identities, their relationship to Bristol and created banners, signs and costumes to portray this.
Thanks to The Station for hosting the first trip for Young Arnolfini's InHabit project last night! More details here: http://bit.ly/1SUoTFp
Young Arnolfini’s chair construction is coming along nicely!
All part of their current project, InHabit.
We took a trip back to Bristol Brunel Academy last week, where artist Tom Pope led a photography workshop based around force with their year 10 pupils.
Some of our first visitors to Art from Elsewhere were Whitehall Primary this week. The students helped us with the creation and recording of our new Audio Discover Pens, that will be available to our visitors free of charge from 28 May.

Fabrication is fully kicking off for Young Arnolfini's Inhabit project.
Check out the group's new material walls that will form an adaptable space for discussion, alongside the prototypes for our transportable stools.
Last Sunday we celebrated the premiere of Speakerbox, a collaborative film project between artists Rob Mitchell, Shawn Sobers and young people from Full Circle @docklands-youth-centre in response to John Akomfrah’s Vertigo Sea. It was great to have a full house for the final showing of the afternoon, and to hear first hand the skills some of the young people gained from participating in the project.
We’re busy collating the feedback we’ve had over the last two weeks from our John Akomfrah Family Space. It’s been great reading about your experiences of being in the space. ‘Lovely concepts, very relaxing environment and lovely space to explore the themes around the seas.’
We’ve loved reading the stories and pictures about your journeys, families and travel that have been left in the Reading Room.
What is the longest journey you have ever been on?
‘It’s great that the suggested activities can draw on children’s different ages, skills and interests.’
John Akomfrah Family Space, parents feedback.
Rachael Clerke recently led a performance masterclass here at Arnolfini for a group of students from St Brendans Sixth Form.
