Pride Comic!
Happy Pride! I started a comic a few months ago and have pushed myself to get this done before the end of June. I'm a recovering perfectionist and also just learning to draw. This isn't a perfect comic, and it's not going to be. But it's my first comic (especially a digital one) and it's done.
There's a lot I want to say (more out of excitement than nervousness), but I think I'll let the comic speak for itself.

I decided to take "terrible comic" and go in a couple of different directions.

I'm working on a comic that will hopefully be done before the end of Pride month. My process right now is slow, but more experience the better (and more efficient)!
With that said, I started looking at a couple of painters for inspiration. Fabien Perez and Brent Lynch.
Here's the picture I am drawing. It's teaching me a lot about composition and rendering. I feel like I'm making a lot of mistakes, such as the bottom right woman's right hand holding what's supposed to be lipstick. But every mistake that I make gets me closer to better pictures in the future.
Sticking with the same character, I wanted to create someone that looked a little more curious. It still feels completely different from Marissa at Bar, but all the same I'm happy with the rough sketch.

I'm not mentioning the websites that are watermarked here because they don't even name them. Which is annoying.
Here's the last one that I used. Cigar Bar by Brent Lynch. I originally tried to keep the hat, but I knew ahead of time that I wanted a woman (possibly a trans woman) in a suit.
So what's my comic about?
Title: Elevating Spirits
Synopsis: Ash has a unique form of entertainment and interviews to sing at her favorite women's bar. She gets hired for that night. While she gets ready the "camera" pans around while she thinks about her reason for singing there, which is to uplift the spirits of everyone at the bar. It will end with her unique form of entertainment; ad libbing to elevator music.
Animals
I do not have my own animal, so I draw my found family's animals. They all have expressive faces.
I really think the first one is a good evolution of my art style at the moment. And I love how the expressions turned out in all of them.
I've been drawing some of @adorkastock's draw everything June challenge. And I'm still catching up on a couple. But I wanted to share some that felt finished.
My friend likes to share photos of her dog and I like to draw him. This is him poking his head out of some blankets.
He's sleepy and is slightly annoyed that his owners aren't in bed yet.

Recently I decided to start looking for another camera. I'll be the first to admit that I have Gear Acquisition Syndrome (not exactly in the DSM-5 or anything, but it spells GAS and is actually costly). But! I am trying to use my phone less and get into some different kinds of photography.
I mainly take photos on my Pentax. But I figured I'd like to have a digital camera with me between film adventures.
I used to work at a camera rental company, so I know where I can go to rent cameras to test out. I'll post more about that on my main blog. And I'll link this with the photos I got from the Camp Snap.
Normally I queue my photos of the day, but I'm gonna break that since I'll be showing off my photos from the Camp Snap.
Ok, so I realized that I left out an entire spread. So instead of editing and including it, I'm going to repost it here. Part of that is because downloading, editing to keep my legal name out, then posting it all seems to be a wonky way of going about this. So I'm just going to give up the ghost about covering up my name.
I have a new one that I'm about to send back to Lens Rentals. I'll post that one in another reblog, then I'll post a picture of the hilarious tape they send for returns.
But why wait? Let's get to Volume II now!
This volume mentions how I have Gear Acquisition Syndrome (or GAS, which I've always found funny), and how I'm going to just stick to renting from now on instead of pressuring myself to buy expensive gear.
I'm thinking of creating a zine about what GAS is and how it traumatizes wallets the world over. In other words, it's another type of consumerism. And I think that would help me out with my own GAS.

Top left: I once found a graph by an editor [on YouTube]. I plotted where I was back then. But it's changed since then.
Top left quadrant: We all move through different phases as writers.
Top right quadrant: But maybe instead of focusing on what box you check...
Bottom right quadrant: We could treat graphs and quizzes [and what others tell us] more like road maps.
Bottom left quadrant: We need to travel more and keep our minds in shape!
I'm re-learning German and teaching a friend when we can. I've been thinking of various ways to come up with ways to translate words.
The other day I thought: let's cover the theater! This is the beginning of the zine. My friend continued the drawing, so I can't show them here (they took it home). But I think I'll redraw my own version and share it here.
Yesterday I drew some stuff as a warmup before writing.

Creative Writing class final drawings
I decided to hold off on a couple of the drawings that I made because they have my name on them.
I'm done with my first creative writing class in like 15 years! It took me all afternoon and well into the night to edit the poems and short stories, then finalize the pictures I was going to use. And these are the things I drew, including the Table of Contents.
Had dinner at one of my favorite restaurants and suddenly decided I had to sketch part of the place. It's Nepalese, and I did not feel qualified to try and imitate the art work. But there were elephants, so i at least tried to draw one of the elephants.
I went to a new art store today. Caved in on some water-color markers.
Seeing them made me start to think about this comic I'm creating, and started considering the color palette. Red, pink, and lavender just feels delightful for this one. So that's what I bought.
In hindsight, it's a lil silly that I chose two cherries on a stem, only because I don't have a green color on me. Just lavender. All the same, I really liked how this turned out.
