#digital art #pokemon art #psmd #heropartnerweek #heropartnerweek2026 #fennekin #pikachu #the first part feels a bit off to represent “loneliness” but my initial thought didnt fit nova's personality at all #(and it only clicked partway through the sketch that this team has a fire starter named nova - much like one of my pmd ocs)#but loneliness in a crowd is one of the worst types of loneliness imo so it works #i actually ended up making a new file in psmd while working on this - and the combo feels like i could make ocs from them #but the month is halfway done and im not as close to done as i want as of scheduling this #(and yes the connections in the second panel aren't fully accurate - i was working off of vibes)

Shortly after bring brought to the future of darkness, Penn receives injuries that result in new scars and losing vision in one eye. It... takes a while to adjust, and he has to do so while on the run. Thankfully Nerita's here to watch his back!

What is Team New Star’s dynamic like?

I'm gonna be honest, I've been starting to consider rewriting the story to change one thing that would dramatically change the dynamic between Astrid and Nova, but I can share the current dynamic!

Astrid and Nova are very close and have been their whole lives. They're the ones who know one another's secrets, they trust each other with everything. Astrid is typically the bossier one between them and, though she tries to be considerate to Nova's feelings and goals, she's not always great at it. Nova, meanwhile, is the one with more of a heart between them. Astrid's busy looking out for their safety, while Nova tries to reach out and make allies, even if temporarily.

As for Sorrel, it takes a little while for Astrid to warm up to her. However, Astrid is quite protective of the few friends she does have; once she considers Sorrel one of them, Astrid opens up and the two like joking around and even training together.

Nova is the first one who wants to help Sorrel and befriend her. Though their relationship also starts out rocky due to Sorrel's insistence she was human and Nova not believing her, the two end up sharing a hobby of gardening. They learn how together, as Nova had never been in a position to try growing plants before while Sorrel doesn't remember whether or not she was, but the instincts hardwired in her body have some idea of what to do.

The reason I'm thinking about redoing the fic to change the dynamic is that right now a lot of the dynamics and plot split the team into two: Astrid and Nova, and Sorrel. It doesn't feel balanced, and due to how I designed the original dynamic and what I've written, I think it can only truly change if I fully change the two's origin (such that they aren't as inseparably close before meeting Sorrel, so it's always grouped up into them and her).

What are Nerita and Penn’s thoughts on evolving?

Penn doesn't want to evolve. Persians aren't as dexterous as he likes. He's fine missing out on the strength and size inherent in evolving - Persians' eye level isn't that much taller than his when he's on two legs anyway, and he doesn't rely on brute strength for battle. He does somewhat mourn the extra speed he would get with evolution, but the trade off simply isn't worth it to him.

Nerita is undecided for a long time. While being stronger would be nice, when she does some research on what she would evolve into she doesn't like how Croconaw looks, but Feraligatr is really cool. In the end, she does decide to evolve, going through the Croconaw stage as quickly as she can. (Thankfully she's strong enough to speed though it, though she does take a little while between evolutions just to adjust to her growing strength and size.) She loves teasing Penn about how much bigger she is than him once she's finally a big ol' Feraligatr.
