suchhhh a stacked cast! eli pony, daryl dally, hailey cherry, dos bit, davis paul
my first time seeing the year 3 cast and UGH let me just say as a whole they breathed new LIFE into this show. man do i love the ogs but something about the younger energy really made a difference. much like the tour cast i truly believe it brings you closer to the story as a viewer when the cast is closer to the characters' actual ages
random aside but i met hailey's mom in the bathroom before the show and she was SO so sweet (i complimented her cherry sweater and she was so excited to show me her matching cherry socks)
also my first eli pony - he is phenomenal. i think on the nolan to brody ponyboy age spectrum he falls right between the two, and i really felt the teenage angst from him
CALEB MATHURA WAS BORN TO PLAY JOHNNY CADE. his mannerisms and little acting moments and just the way he embodies johnny fully as a character. like yeah... that's a 16 year old kid right there. hands down favorite johnny i've ever seen. more on him later
i've seen hailey as cherry before but she fits RIGHT in with this cast! i think her cherry is def younger than emma's which works out with the vibe of the rest of the cast. and of course her voice is just SO beautiful. and her new wig ugh she looked so cute
during the first jumping scene after the line where ponyboy says "cool hand luke isn't playing on the east side" (or something like that) davis turned to the audience and put on the absolute dumbest nerd voice and repeated pony's line
sutton is a REALLY funny soda. some of his line deliveries were so original and really just made his character that much funnier. you kind of see how he relies on using humor to try and de-escalate his brothers' arguments.
example: "i mostly dream about flying saucers and hamburgers. and sometimes.............................ann-margret........................is serving......................the hamburgers"
the combination of dos bit and the younger greaser cast honestly made me see the dynamic of two bit being the oldest greaser for the first time. i feel like sometimes in this show dally/darry come off as the oldest but especially with daryl as dally, i think dos bit became like a big brother role to every one of the greasers
when dally asked “two bit you got your grease” i believe henry replied something in spanish but i didn’t catch it
during GGAH henry was like standing with his arm around johnny ruffling his hair
he was also having a good old time with runako during the drive in lol
speaking of runako she is SUCH a light on stage. your eyes are immediately drawn to her movements - i wrote down that she's a really vibrant dancer. cannot think of a better person to step into tilly's shoes
during RITF when the gang enters sutton had runako in a bridal carry
when the gang leaves the stage near the end of RITF soda like shoos them off and for a second it looked like dos bit was asking him whether he could take the chocolate cake lol
during the post drive-in scene when dally first starts talking he goes "ahhh...romance" and daryl looked STRAIGHT at bev and brill (who were being mushy and making out) for that line and abby noticed that, looked at devin, and then pointed at daryl with a "is he talking about us?" face
logan marcia is lowkey intense LOL her "let her speak for herself" was ANGRY and daryl dally gave it RIGHT back to her in an uncanny imitation of her voice
hailey went "you can protect us" and then she looked immediately at logan and did like a little smirk while logan kind of gave her an open-mouthed "you did NOT" face
eli pony and caleb johnny were SO excited about the "outlaws" thing. like logan said the line and they started giggling and kicking their legs
hailey cherry and eli pony lowkey have so much chemistry like i've honestly always kind of felt that the relationship between cherry and pony is the hardest to establish because their arc is fully contained within the show but (maybe from their booth bonding time) i really bought their connection during ICTTYAN. also their blend.....thats why its my fav song ever
nicholas is another comedic standout as bob. i've honestly never thought of bob as a funny character but i think it really humanizes him (as a high school boy) when he has these funny moments. he imitated logan's voice on "eat shit marcia" and it made everyone in the audience laugh
during RITFR caleb johnny was (i think) polishing the side of the car with his rag while darry was yelling 😭😭😭😭😭😭 omfg. i love him
soda was also checking up on him and asking if he was okay during that part too
when soda got between darry and pony he kept trying to put his hand on pony's shoulder and pony just KEPT shrugging it off and this happened maybe like two or three times :(
the little part of the song right before the slap johnny was like rocking back and forth on his heels like he was ready to run out of there
sorry. have many notes about caleb johnny. was really watching him
after johnny stabs bob he like let out a sob when he checked bob's pulse and then his voice broke when he said "we gotta get out of here". i feel like i've never actually seen a johnny express GRIEF after the stabbing (rather than fear, etc)
ACT 2
JFT!! i don't think abby bev is as outwardly evil as melody's bev lol. it really seems like she's going through the motions as a soc and doing what she thinks she has to do when she pulls marcia away from cherry and burns two bit.
logan marcia looked upset and horrified as soon as two bit entered the stage like she knew what was going to happen to him
the first time i've paid attention to the ponyboy wig change and you can actually see him taking it off which is so trippy lol. but i had to REALLY squint to make it out
eli's DAMD is where you can see his teenage angst-ness play out. he almost reminds me of brody in that capacity. like he's truly so upset and believes that everyone would be better off without him
"the reason i'm living is you" never fails to make me cry
daryl dally is so much smaller in stature compared to dan darry and during their confrontation scene it really shows. it feels like daryl dally knows he wouldn't really be able to fight darry but still wants to get a rise out of him using his words
daryl dally genuinely paused and looked at pony for a second before telling him he looked like burt lancaster
johnny like smiled hopefully at dally after he gave ponyboy soda's letter and then stopped when dally said "i don't got nothing for you"
at the start of HTH ace was lying between darry's legs and it looked like they were both napping
eli was crying fully throughout hopeless war and you could see the tear tracks on his face all the way until cherry left the stage
dan darry immediately found ponyboy and soda post rumble and like strong armed both of them into a hug
at the beginning of little brother when soda hugged pony from behind pony like leaned his entire body weight back against soda's chest and started sobbing
daryl tofa's little brother option ups i hope everyone here gets to experience them at least once. he is SO. GOOD.
after soda's breakdown scene dan darry screamed the line "you're our brother and we love you" at pony. like full top of the lungs desperate yelling. and then when he said "did you hear that i said i love you" he was almost whispering. dan darry you mean so much to me
caleb johnny looked genuinely at peace during stay gold. like he was smiling through the entire song. when he sang about the morning light he turned his face towards the spotlight and like closed his eyes.
it really did bring new meaning to the song. i think his version of johnny is like the version of johnny in ponyboy's head speaking to him rather than the ghost of the same johnny we've been seeing throughout the show if that makes sense
i’m back home for spring break seeing this absolutely stacked cast just met hailey’s mom in the women’s room (she was wearing a very cute cherry sweater) will update back with show notes im so pumped.
