Protecting the ones you love

In "The Road" there is a strong bond between the father and the son. The father will do anything to keep his son or "his warrant" safe. I experienced something like this the other day. I was on the phone with my boyfriend and I just pulled up to my work to open up. I was alone and I said that a man was walking toward my job on the side walk. My Kevin (my boyfriend) was about 15 minutes away from me. When I told him a strange man was approaching my job he was pulling into my work about 5 minutes later to check on me. Yes this isn't quite as thrilling as the book, but the security I felt that he was checking on me and cared was there. And I'm sure he boy felt just as safe when his father was by his side.

Ok so this might just sound goofy, but at the end of the book when I was looking back at symbolism and her name. I know the women in this book took the men's name but I have another theory. Ok so the handmaids wore red, so I believe that at the end of the book she is not red any more. She is "OFFRed" :) BOOM! Genius moment

Gone Too Soon

It has been 8 days since my uncle passed away. I miss him so much. Now that I have experienced losing somebody and saw first hand how scared my uncle was, I realize now why Winston didn't stand up for what he believed in. His fear in dying with the rats was much greater than his fear of the party. I was so angry when I found out that Winston didn't die for what he believed in but now I understand the fear of dying. The thought of never seeing your loved ones again and them having to live without you is unbearable. I'm with you Winston... In with you.

      You are definitely making the right choice by spending as much time with your uncle as possible. I really respect that decision because I’m sure most people would go do their own thing instead of spending time with family in times like this. Family always should come before your friends, your boyfriend, and whatever else extracurricular activities the day offers. I hope that one day nobody will have any pain that severe. We can all hope for a miracle to happen. I hope everything gets better. We will be praying for you and your family. Be strong and keep your head up. :)

Girls Ain’t Nothing But Trouble, DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince As of the end of part 2 chapter 2, I do not trust Julia. Nor do I really like her very much. Originally I was going to say that I do not really like how this book portrays women, but then I realized something: I don’t like how this book portrays PEOPLE. Not that the people in this story get much of a chance to be portrayed in a positive light, when 15 percent of the population are under the Party’s’ thumb and the other 85% are basically inaccessible due to our main character’s Party member status. The idea of turning in one’s friends or family for ‘thought crime’ gives me the willies. How simple would it be to turn someone in to the thought police on trumped up charges just because you don’t LIKE them? As for my original point, my dislike of Julia, I really can’t see her character moving Winston forward in a positive direction. Even if she is what she claims to be, even if she is probably going to be a huge plot device, I can’t help but shake my head and think she’s going to get Winston killed. (also the music video for this quote is so…well, if you’ve ever been a Fresh Prince fan watch it.)

        I definitely agree with you about not trusting Julia, it seems like it is too good to be true for Winston. Whether Winston knows it or not, he is targeted by society because he thinks too much and is smarter than most people, which can also be an explanation for his excessive paranoia. It also could be a coincidence that Winston is having all these dreams and flashbacks of sexual encounters, then Julia shows up not too long after all this occurs. More than likely Julia is a spy, sent by the thought police. In some ways, it seems like our society we live in will eventually end up as bad as these books and stories we read. None of these readings give me a good feeling about the future.

Anna's Choice

As I sit here next to my uncles hospital bed I try to think of some way to get back on track with my school work and what to blog about. I remembered last class we talked about Sophie's Choice and I realize I relate to this at a smaller scale. As I am spending my last days with my beloved uncle (who has been a dad to me for the past 10 years) I am having to choose how much time I spend doing other "normal" activities. So my own "Anna's choice" is to be there with my uncle even if that means falling behind in school or losing any relationships with friends, boyfriends etc. my uncle was the best dad anyone could ask for and he is the best choice I could ever make.

Alrighty... So this is my sophomore year in college at gulf coast state college. It's pretty chill so far. I'm taking this awesome class with a hella cool teacher Amber Clark! But let me tell you about this craziness we read in class... We read "The Lottery" which seems pretty normal and cool and it's a beautiful summer day then it takes a HARD sharp turn and this so called "lottery" is a way of killing off a towns person.... What the hell!!!? I was reading the beginning with a smile on my face then this woman dies and I'm crying!!! Ahhh talk about an emotional roller coaster! But after looking back at the story, there was loads of irony and satire that set up the twisted ending. Well done crazy author well done.
