Jemma tilted her head slightly at Darcyās comment. Itās not exactly something she had expected to hear from Jane Fosterās intern, and why would ābig wordsā be the reason she would tune her out? If she was the intern of an astrophysicist, Jemma figured Darcy would probably be some sort of science major and be pretty use to hearing and using large, technical words in her work.
"Well, umm, I was supposed to give you some papers and talk about a possible collaboration with her on her current project."
"Ohhh, neato," Darcy said brightly. "She's always doin' some neat sciencey stuff so I'm sure you two will get along great. I don't always get what she's talking about but it sounds cool enough so. Oh hey, bench, right?"
yo this is a reminder that if you ever come up with a neat idea for our muses to interact - whether itās canon or au - talk to me about it because chances are I will be 500% down to do the thing
"Iām fine. Coffee sounds good." Clint nodded. He never really made it a habit to refuse anyoneās offer of coffee. If nothing else, it would give them something to do.
"Coffee's always good." She set about preparing the pot, shooting a look at him over her shoulder. Aside from his affinity for java and the fact that he was an avenger, she really didn't know that much about him.
"So. What'cha laying low from, then?"
"I can't say, it's a secret."
Melinda raised an eyebrow, not glancing up from her lukewarm, mediocre cup of coffee, āIf its a secret, why bring it up in the first place.ā
Flicking the tip of a finger against her waxed-cardboard cup, she rolled her lips together and forced herself to unclench her jaw. With a wave of her hand, she motioned towards the seat across the table.
"Please, sit."
Honestly, Melinda had half a mind to just brush off the girl who looked like she got lost on her way to campus. The familiarity of her face though, she remembered the girl from some reports she had collated, and one could not just brush off someone with those kind of ties to Thor. Particularly with the relationship S.H.I.E.L.D. had hoped to cultivate with Asgard.
"We can use hypotheticals, if that makes a difference," Melinda offered, bringing her cup to her lips and pretending to sip as she watched the young woman.
Darcy looked warily at the woman across the desk from her. Honestly, she looked like the kind of person who could easily snap Darcy like a twig (not that most of the people in this buildingĀ couldn't, freaking S.H.I.E.L.D agents) and there was something in her that commanded respect.
"I. Well. There was a thing. And hypothetically, I may did something. With the thing. And another thing. Happened. A lot of things Happened actually. Everything happened a lot. Yeah. Lots of happening going on. Ha. Ha."
Okay, maybe not her best first-ish impression on a person, if the expression on Agent...
(where's her desk plaque there should be a rule about how visible those need to be maybe I should lodge a complaint with HR or something, we the people lobby for more visible desk plaques or like name tags or something, 'hello my name is agent somebodyorother and I can kill you six different ways with my thumbs -Ā FOCUS.)
If the expression on AgentĀ May's face is anything to go by.
"It's. A thing. Yeah. And I figured I should come talk to you people about it."
"Why are you worrying aboutĀ me?āĀ she asks, her voice rising hysterically.Ā "Youāre the one whoās hurt - hang on."
She turns away from Darcy for a minute so she can give the taxi company their location, and doesnāt turn back until sheās been assured that someone is on the way.
"Itās going to be fine," she says, in the firmest voice she can manage.Ā "Weāre going to go back to my apartment, and youāre going to rest, and itās going to beĀ fine.ā
"Yes. Yes I am going to be fine, which means you can tell your heart it's okay to start circulating your bloodstream again. Y'look a little pale, there, Jane."
On second thought maybe she isn't entirely fine at the moment, because all of a sudden everything hurts, and the air rushes out of her lungs in a startled whoosh. Delayed reactionsĀ suck, she decides, looking up at Jane with wide eyes and realizing this probably isn't going to do anything good for her friend's current state of near panic.Ā
"Fine. 'M fine," she says hazily, in a pre-emptive answer to a question that hasn't been answered yet.
Jemma took a hold of Darcyās hands, looking up at her.
"On three. Your count." She gave the girl a half smile.
"One, two, THREE." Darcy gave a pull and heaved the girl to her feet. "There you go. Look at us, all vertical and everything. So Jane said something about science that I may have accidentally tuned out - she used a lot of big words - and so I'm. Not actually entirely sure what it is I'm meeting you here for.
"Actually yeah. Thereās a new place right around the corner." They point, then realize belatedly that itās probably not "new" by her definition at all, just because it wasnāt here originally. "I mean, a neat place." Ā
"Alright, rad, do you think you could show me where it is maybe? I'm honestly terrible with directions, I got lost two blocks away from my apartment once. I need a GPS like. Implanted into my brain or something. Also maybe they have a first aid kit we can use?"
Honestly, it probably also has something to do with the fact that Darcy could really use the company, and she found this person intriguing.Ā
despite The Tea Incident i do indeed have access to a computer for a bit so REPLIES i am so sorry it has been e i g h t y f o u r y e a r s

"Oh jeez. Wait, whatās the name of the diner?" Bucky thinks they might know what sheās talking about, actually. And theyāre great with directions, even if they donāt know this new neighborhood too well.Ā
She definitely looks like she could use the help, and they can use a distraction.
"That's. Ah." Darcy scuffs the toe of her boot against the concrete. "That's a really good question, actually. I just sorta tapped the first option that came up. Age of technology, right? Do you know anyplace nearby?"
"Yes! Yes I am. Jemma, I mean. And the person you were supposed to meet." Jemma stared at Darcyās outstretched hand for a moment, unsure as to what gesture she was intending. Jemma decided on handshake, more than likely, that was the usual greeting gesture, right?
She shook Darcyās hand. āIām glad you made it. As to your other question, I think I might be able to make it, though I might need some help if thatās alright?ā
"No problem, let's get you on your feet." Darcy walked around so she stood in front of Jemma. Holding out both her hands, she tried to give a reassuring grin. "On three?"

She giggled at the other womanās reaction before introducing herself. āItās nice to meet you Darcy, Iām Camelia Carpenterā¦but you can call me Cami.ā Smiling, she hesitated before offering her hand to shake.Ā
"N-no, I donāt think so."Ā Had she ever seen the guy before? No, but sheād seen guys like him. Poker faces in suits and sunglasses, following her whenever they could find her. It wasnāt easy to hide from the government but she really had no choice. āBut Iām sure heāll leave me alone no time.ā They usually did. Though they were on the lookout for her, she really wasnāt that important.
"Looks kinda shady, 'f you ask me." Darcy swirled a spoon around in her coffee cup, then dumped another sugar packet into it.
Watching Cami's face carefully, she frowned. "Are you sure you're alright? Want to get a coffee, stay here for a while until he leaves? Or I could walk you home if you want."
