For the record, a big component of Jacob's lack of sympathy towards Shao and Maxwell comes from the fact that he actually did see Juliet at a friend before the incident, so since a lot of his beef with them is projection it doesn't rly occur to him that they see Juliet as y'know. Their superior. Who has a lot of power over them. Or more accurately, he just can't rly picture what that looks like for them. Juliet has a lot of power over him too, but he's just never really seen her as fundamentally above him in the way she just sort of Is. At least the way she is for the other two.

#rat rambles #oc posting #lobotomy posting #a lot of that stems from his old tendency to only let himself stew on any possible positives though #he basically saw everyone as an equal regardless of their actual social position compared to him #so he's never really seen authority as particularly above him in any way #well now he's starting to experience that feeling but not enough to make him not see juliet as just another coworker #he has negative amounts of respect for her and he doesn't see any reason he should pander to her #and since he was in a position where he could get away with that he kinda treats maxwell and shao like they Could do the same but just #choose not to out of some poorly placed respect for juliet #and while nowadays the probably could technically get away with giving up on pandering to her that's a big technically #it'd be disastrous for them socially and their position in the facility is not stable enough that losing juliet's support wouldn't hurt #they're noteworthy people pretty much Only because of their relation to Juliet #the less seriously she takes them the more rapidly they fall down the food chain #it's why even though charlotte is in the control team she doesn't benefit from it nearly as much as the others do #and she and juliet don't even have any beef juliet just isn't particularly invested in her #maxwell is already on thin ice socially and shao is mostly in the firmly established agents list by virtue of juliet vouching for them #like they're in amita. that is not a sign of an agent the manager is particularly invested in.#or at least it super duper isn't for me #shao and crizan are kinda in a similar situation in that regard. both are probably seen as the most disposable agents in the facility #but shao at least has juliet to keep them more comfortably established #crizan is kinda just fucked and got lucky that she was never in a position where she died when the manager would have been willing to #accept that death #but if juliet stopped giving a shit abt shao they'd basically immediately be on the list of ppl the manager is willing to not reset over #obviously that doesn't mean they'd be super likely to die for realsies but itd be genuinely possible #which can't be said abt the vast majority of the rest of the cast #shao is just in the unfortunate position of being the most junior in their department and also being junior enough in general that they got #the scraps gear wise #and they're also in control. it's not exactly the most important thing in the world to ensure control is filled to the brim.#the most important difference tho is that if juliet Really wanted to there's two of them she could get rid of and one of them she couldn't

Ok fine I'll finally stop neglecting Maxwell and Shao for a minute. Jacob watching Juliet move on to trying to shape Maxwell into taking his place as the gold standard and instead of understanding and being sympathetic to the fact that she's using them just as much as she used him he decides to eldest daughter post about it. And then when Maxwell watches Juliet move on from them to Shao they start plotting the murder plan immediately but alas they became fully established before they could set a plan in motion. But hey at least they're both pretty mutually losing at the ensuing mind games.

(no he is not hashtag the horrors)#but jacob certainly isn't helping any with the beef. looks at these two people clearly very vulnerable to juliet's manipulation and just #goes damn dude your so stupid and bad at this you should just give up and kill yourself <3 #ok not exactly like that but he definitely wants to rub salt in the wound that they'll never be juliet's favorite the way he was #he hates juliet a lot so he gains some satisfaction from seeing her newer assets struggle to meet her standards #a big part of why he was way less hostile to charlotte from the start is that she never really tried to appeal to juliet too much #she would go through some of the motions just for survivals sake but she clearly found it obnoxious #now that wasn't an immediate be liked by jacob sort of deal since plenty of agents who don't make it far also didn't like Juliet #but when it because clear that charlotte was going to make it to the established employee club he started showing more interest #I imagine this leads to maxwell and shao also having a bit of one sided beef with charlotte too #maxwell more so than shao tho. same with both of them and Jacob #shao does have the beef going on but in their eyes they're about exactly wheree they want to be so they're less wildly insecure #they're still definitely insecure but they are pretty confident in juliet seeing them as valuable #maxwell has always struggled a lot more to be what juliet wants them to be since they're a little grumpy asshole #so their value in juliet's eyes is a lot more up in the air and harder to secure #shao is more insecure about staying juliet's favorite than being seen as good enough #they know they're good enough to be valuable but they're not extrosinary in juliet's eyes in the same way jacob was #they don't want to think that she'd stop investing as much into them the second she runs out of potential to squeeze out of them #they want to believe that she genuinely cares about them and will obviously keep them as her right hand regardless #but the prospect still haunts them. although they won't admit it out loud.

Fun fact abt Suckerz, conceptually they've existed since I first started drawing. She didn't exist as she is now, but her general vibe and many design elements (and even it's purpose) have been floating around in my head for ages and ages. It kind of existed in two other forms before it's current iteration back when I was a kid, a digimon oc for roleplays (I think I called her like beatramon or smth?) and a old lilo and stitch experiment oc (I made a lot of those as a kid). They've always existed as a hypothetical sona/mascot for any music I may make in the future, and they continue to serve that role. In a sense it can be argued that it's my oldest currently active oc, but I don't think it's entirely fair to say that Suckerz is the same character that those old two were. She's just the modern iteration of the concepts they both had.

#rat rambles #oc posting #lobotomy posting #🎇#yum-yum has grown on me massively in recent times. he's my sad wet old man who is trying his best #how good is his best? debatable. but it's certainly better than like literally everyone else in the building.#his biggest faults are just that for all he cares he's very bad at communicating that and very bad at reading relationships #he doesn't rly realize the latter until it's far too late and it very much crushes him just how much abuse he never noticed there was #especially since geminiano is one of those people in a abusive situation he didn't know about #mary has a similar situation actually. except she definitely wasn't trying her best in the slightest.#mary was very much coming in having been burned too many times to want to put too much stock into anyone around her #but she's mary so try as she did to convince herself she didn't care she still very much did. a Lot.#so the last stretch before the end is a lot of her and yum-yum going oh god I did Not do enough.#except one of them knew they were doomed but kept trying anyways and the other didn't know they were doomed and didn't try until too late #which is a shame because when she actually is trying she's actually not a bad leader figure #in the 3rd facility she's the ducktape holding the facility together because someone has to be the marriage counselor for all these bozos #but alt facility mary in particular was doubled burned by the white knight incident so she was very deliberately distant #while for yum-yum the whitenight incident is exactly why he cares so much about these people #stuck in that little elevator with three other people in what he was sure were going to be his last moments sure did things to his brain #he's particularly attached to all three of them over everyone else but geminiano is the one he's absolutely the most attached to #partially because she recovered him from a panic during the breach and partially because she was the lowest level of them when it happened #he has a lot of respect for her and very much feels in debt to her #not even fully for saving his life as far as he's concerned the fact that any of them survived that was pure luck #but for being the spark for him fully seeing the humanity in the other three for the first time #he got very used to seeing most ppl as just walking corpses or gears in some machine or another #but in that moment even though he was sure they were all going to be corpses very soon he saw them as people who were about to die #he feels a bit self conscious about being so dedicated to them for that alone but he still feels it's all he can do at this point

The beauty of having two playthroughs worth of nuggets is that there then becomes infinite potential in mixing and matching them in hypothetical past loops. This unfortunately is also deeply detrimental to my ability to stop just fixating solely on lob corp as ruina just doesn't do enough to satiate my character dynamics cravings
