“Alright, you dragged me out - what’re we gonna do now? –I’m really not in the holly jolly Christmas mood, Mo’.” Colton was being a bit of a grinch this year. Maybe because he was older, maybe because the last few weeks, he’d been working 16 hours days. He also hadn’t slept well in the same amount of time, and exhausted didn’t really begin to cover how tired he was.
“We’re gonna get presents for your mama and my daddy.” She spoke, matter of factly, honestly feeling the same bitterness towards the holiday that he felt this year. Things had just gotten so busy, and honestly the last thing she’d wanted to do on her little down time was rush around in the holiday hustle and bustle. “Maybe turn around this bitter bug that’s got us both bit this holiday season.” She looked at a passing display as they walked, for a moment. “Or we can steal the Christmas joy from some unexpected locals, make ‘em feel just as lousy as we are.” Her expression that coupled her words gave off one that she was kidding, hoping for maybe a smile from her cousin at the least.
