In Ab Intra and Ab Extra, everyone is shady. Snape centric. He is broken down until only his worst is left, shown the light, and crushed again. He is weak and afraid. He is cruel and aggressive. He is powerful and prideful yet entirely at the mercy of others. He is a deeply broken man and it shows. Heavy backstory and scenes that will enrage you, devastate you, give you hope, and rip it away from you. I'm in love with his characterization.

I have not finished Ab Extra yet because I am anxious. I need to get to the end. I need to see what happens. I can't not finish it. But I also need a break before the last five chapters because holy shit my heart can't take it.

New Fic Announcement! 🎉

FRIENDS! I made it. My new story is finished. I'm a bit astonished it's finally ready and I think I'll cry. I completed the first draft in 2010 (which was 15 years ago, for some reason) and it was the first fanfic I ever wrote. I ended up losing my notebooks and completely forgetting about them until last year, when I found them again and decided to sit down and rewrite the story from scratch. I suppose this makes it my newest story, but in a way also my oldest.

I just have one question

When did Severus realise that his love for Harry has become much more deeper than his love for Lily and what made that possible?

Maybe one of the reason is that on one hand there is Lily. Lily had shown him compassion and kindness in childhood. He had wanted Lily to love him but Lily rejected him ( he knows that he pushed Lily away by calling her that word ) but that love is unrequited. Maybe somewhere in the deep recesses of his heart he somehow resents Lily a bit of marrying his bully and enemy.

On the other hand there is Harry. Harry showed him kindness when Severus himself had self doubt. He hated himself for betraying Lily. Even when he pushed Harry away multiple times, Harry came back to him. After they kissed, Severus somewhere knows that he is attracted to Harry, but still he rejects Harry. Harry is stubborn and he still comes back to Severus. Though Severus dismisses this as temporary attraction, still he knows somewhere that Harry loves him.

Now, he is faced with the reality that Harry truly loves him. And when on one hand, Lily rejected him but Harry accepted him even after faced with Severus's nature, his dark truths. So I think this is the reason Severus fell in love with Harry.

When does Severus realise this in the story?

I'll be making an announcement soon. My second draft is finished (180K...) and I'm now working on the bibliography and final structure. At this point I don't know if I want to postpone publishing it even more so I can have it beta-read or if I'll just start posting it as it is, since it's already been nearly 2 years of working on it and I've grown impatient to share it with you all.

Hi, thanks for the question! In that scene Snape was very drunk. He looked at Harry's eyes and momentarily confused him for Lily.

I can definitely imagine teenage Snape trying to invite Lily over, as teenagers do, only for her to witness his father acting in some awful way--and then never inviting her over again.

I want to ask one question if you wouldn't mind.

In the Epilogue, when Harry is having these inner monologue, at last does he truly believe that what he and Severus had was just an outlet of their loneliness, trauma or he believes that what they had was love ? I know that Harry is trying to cope with Severus's death and thinking these things but at last what does he actually believe was there between him and Severus?

I know it is an Ambiguous Ending but I just wanted to know your viewpoint. I am sorry if it is a repetitive question but I just wanted to know. Can you please tell me ?

Hi, thanks for your question! My answer to whether their love was genuine tends to change every few years. I wrote this story over 15 years ago now and I was much younger then and much more romantic, I think.

So, was their relationship genuine? Was it grooming? Was it inappropriate? Was it true love?

You are a talented author! I love your fics, and I’m really curious—how do you manage to finish such long stories? Recently, I’ve been trying to write something too, but I find it really difficult. I’ve loved reading and writing since elementary school, but keeping up with writing can be challenging.

How do you deal with it when you don’t know where to start or what to write? And how do you improve your writing skills?

Hi, thanks for the question! I'm actually stubborn af and highly competitive against myself (this isn't advice! do the opposite of that!) so if I decide that a story has to be written I'll write it no matter what.

I had a lot of life-changing events happen to me in the past year, both good and bad, but I still made sure to write every single day even if it was just a sentence. If I'm a sentence closer to finishing the story than I was yesterday then that's improvement.

Now I have in my hands my finished 160K manuscript and I'll inevitably devastate you all. That shit is so dark Imma make my readers think the Syntax and Ab extra were rom coms. 😈

Seriously though, just write! You don't have to know what you're writing. Just let it happen. Don't think of your writing skills when you write, just think of the story and immerse yourself in it. Write what you would like to read!

Hi Arrisha. I read The Syntax of Things and I am just blown by the way you spun the words and emotions to make such a beautiful story. Thank you for writing this Masterpiece.If you wouldn't mind I just want to talk about in the epilogue when Harry is coping with Severus's death I love the way you wrote it.

But after Ron and Hermione hug him he tries to cope with it by reasoning with himself and telling himself that maybe this isn't love, just infatuation and they fell for each other because of circumstances, their shared trauma, Sev acting as a father figure in Harry's life, and Harry to be the first person who showed Sev compassion and stayed. Because if he doesn't reason with himself like this, then he will want to die again because the alternative ( living without his true and first love, Sev is unbearable for him).

He considers their (supposed) infatuation as a result of Syntax of Things ( circumstances that were out of their hands).

But at last he acknowledges their love. He accepts that maybe it happened because of specific circumstances, but nonetheless what they had was love ( stupid maybe but love ). He learns to accept it and also thinks that he will move on and try to live again.

I think this acceptance is reality that sometimes maybe we fall in love with someone because of some circumstances. Maybe we wouldn't have fallen in love with them without those events. But still we love each other deeply because those events (for Snarry it is trauma and many other things) bind us in such a way that it is natural to fall in love with them. Some other person just doesn't fit there.

This is where the poem comes by E E Cummings that who cares about Syntax of Things, the thing that matters is Feelings. Who cares how Harry and Sev fell in love, for what reasons they fell in love, nothing else matters but their feelings towards each other which is of love.Harry accepts this and thinks that what is love but everything. Because after all everything made them fall in love with each other ( trauma, infatuation, obsession, codependency).
