Hey guys, itâs Arrow
I decided to make my blog @life-is-arrowing mostly a crack blog for asks, reblogs, and chaotic shit and dedicate a different blog for my writing and headcanons. So, this is what this blog is for!
dennis whitaker knows so much about classic cowboy shows i just know it. this man has had reruns of westerns on in the background his entire life because of his dad and brothers. gunsmoke, bonanza, cheyenne, wyatt earp, the rifleman, wagon train, you name it. does he like them? no, he rolls his eyes at the shoddy depictions of women and indigenous folks. does he know ball? of course. heâs absorbed All The Informationâąïž
ok so whereâs the fic where, after the english teacher presumably dies, ogilvieâs in the stairwell mulling over what happened (maybe not crying, but decidedly emotional, shaken, and stressing) and whitaker comes in to be like âtheyâre looking for you. robby wants all hands on deckâ and ogilvie either doesnât notice, has his face in his hands, and is talking to himself (âgod youâre so stupid,â âwhy did you think you could do this,â âhe was right,â âall you do is fuck upâ) OR he notices, straightens up, and is obviously trying to hold A Lot in (or both), so whitaker softens and goes to sit by him and tells him about losing his first patient and ogilvieâs silent for a while and whitakerâs about to get up when he asks âwhy are you telling me this?â and whitaker says âi know how you feel. losing a patient is never easyâ and ogilvieâs like âno, you donât understand. itâs not just that. you donât get what itâs like to try so fucking hard at everything and still be a failure. my dad was right. iâm not cut out to be a doctor and i never shouldâve triedâ and whitaker tells him about his own experience with his parents not wanting him to leave the farm and all the nights he spent during med school thinking the same thing and how close he was to going back to nebraska with his tail between his legs and ogilvieâs like âdoes it ever get better?â and whitaker gives a little chuckle before saying âthere are always bad days, but you learn to roll with the punchesâ and ogilvieâs like âhow do you manage it all?â and whitakerâs like âthere are times when it feels like itâs too much, but then i remember why we do this. this is so much bigger than any of us. there are people who depend on us, but we also have to know when to lean on other people. you know, physician heal thyself? iâm just lucky that i have people that i can count on for supportâ and ogilvie just nods and whitakerâs like âhereâs my number if you ever want to talkâ and idk maybe they kiss who knows
is this cheesy as fuck? yes. do i need it on my desk by monday morning? also yes
so ogilvieâs dad definitely compared him to his students right
âwhitaker my sweet pure little blorboâ this. âwhitaker my skrunkly little wet rodentâ that. yâall arenât ready to admit that this manâs a fuckin freak. i just know that his first time was in the bed of a pickup truck after a bonfire. he and his brothers probably homegrew weed between corn stalks. he can probably shotgun in less than 3 seconds. look at him snap that ratâs neck and tell me heâs a weak scrimblo that needs santos to protect him
âheâs weirder than youâd thinkâ i fucking called it. this man is a FREAK
thinking back on ogilvie's demeanour after he pulled the glass out of that patient and like. i'm kind of being persuaded to believe the tragic backstory headcanon because that isn't how someone who had two loving supportive parents reacts to making a mistake .... like he is SCARED. he gets very tense and almost kind of skittish ? i feel like maybe as a kid he was punished a lot (whether it was verbally or physically) for making mistakes just because i've seen how people behave when they've been in that situation and that's how his demeanour in the scene comes off to me. even after the patient is stabilised, he still seems off and i get a feeling that him saying "it won't happen again" to robby was instinct. i really don't think the way he acted was about his ego
absolutely. i just know heâs doing some crazy overcompensating. like yes can he come off as an arrogant know it all and a kiss ass, yes, but thatâs probably like the only way heâs ever gotten attention. by being perfect. by never falling short of exacting standards. not necessarily prodigy, but definitely top of his class. not to project but like i think heâs come to a point where he feels he can only rely on his intellect. thatâs his strong point. and him talking over joy or oneupping javadi is more about proving to himself that he deserves to be there than the other people in the room. he absolutely grew up in an environment where everything was a competition. if he couldnât be the fastest or the strongest or i donât know the most popular or the most attractive, he could be the smartest in the room. and thatâs how he could win love and attention (not just from family but peers). but also like i think he grew up in a family where it was made clear that itâs better to be feared/respected than loved. and thatâs why heâs terrified to make these mistakes. because thatâs when the love went away
RARE OGILVIE POSITIVITY
Iâm DESPERATELY holding onto the fact that I really donât hate anyone in The Pitt because, yes, everybody is flawed, and thatâs the point. No one is meant to be plain good or evil in this, and I know a lot of these characters that I love so much would annoy me irl đ.
With that in mind, Ogilvie does irritate me. He compromised a patientâs safety because he was way too sure of himself, he frequently talks over others, and in general, he is not a good team player.
I think heâll learn. Nobody is perfect, and while I donât see any redeeming qualities so far, heâs already had his first experience with almost being responsible for a patientâs death, and it really seemed to shake him.
I think by the end of season two (or somewhere down the line, because no one changes in a day), he will realize that heâs not perfect, and he doesnât have to be! His life has probably been so surrounded by a need for validation and a need to be at the top of the class that he hasnât let go of it, yet.
I think James Ogilvie has a lot of room to grow, and I stand as the first Ogilvie truther in this season. If, by the end of the episode, Iâm wrong, you all have permission to stone me đ.
I really can't hate Ogilvie because is he annoying right now? Yeah, but I also have come across many Ogilvies in engineering school (honestly he could be the school mascot) and when you take them out of a competitive environment, they're perfectly fine, if not a little socially inept.
I think he's been the smartest person in the room growing up, and, considering he went to UCLA, he's been in constant competition with others who have also been the smartest in the room for pretty much his entire adult life. And honestly? How he interacts with everyone else in the show is how I saw people interact with each other at school, and they were all friends!! That's probably how he acts with his own friends and it's normal for him!!!
Unless you witness it first hand, it's hard to comprehend the dynamics of being friends and cutthroat rivals simultaneously - add in the academic validations and lack of social awareness and you have a recipe for a maladjusted med student.
I do genuinely think this is a good experience for him regardless if he gets a residency spot because it'll force him to see outside of his limited world view and he'll be a better doctor for it
this. i did debate and quiz bowl in high school, continued with quiz bowl in college, and am in a pretty academically rigorous program (though nothing compared to med school). iâve been both surrounded by people like ogilvie and been him. heâs definitely a product of this type of environment where a certain level of performance (like the one upping and constantly having to prove that youâre smart enough to be considered a friend) is normal. i suspect this season will be very humbling for him. lots of learning things the hard way, but i hope he does grow. definitely excited to see what they do with him
as much as i love lutheran whitaker, i bet the showâs gonna make him ex evangelical/baptist. as such i have to say he wouldâve absolutely been in awana when he was little. the way he pulled out that isaiah verse i know he ate on sword drills. probably got those memorization awards. i can just picture him doing a relay race around that square
would anyone be down to help me out by beta reading my pitt fic? the only thing iâll say now is that itâs whitaker/langdon smut and iâll give more details later. if anyone is interested, please dm me for the quickest reply. whether it be brainstorming or actual editing, any help would be much appreciated âĄÌ

@baratheonbastard youâre so right. his freakdom does add layers to his guilt

what if i were to share some of my lukewarm alador blight headcanonsÂ
his parents were both high-ups in their coven with his father being a former abomination coven head and his mother being a prominent potioneer.
i definitely think his parents (more so his father) disproved of his merging of abominations and machinery, even at an early age. he saw it as a way a crutch for his âhalf-a-witch sonâ to use to pass by with subpar creations.Â
anyways, despite this, alador did well in and enjoyed his abominations classes. he liked the relative flexibility with the forms.
he and odalia were friends from an early age in the way that amity and boscha were. the blights and odaliaâs families had close ties through wealth and status and wanted to keep any friends within that ring. anyone that wasnât was subject to intense scrutiny for high academic achievement. anyone who couldnât meet any criteria was unacceptable.
i am one of those people who donât think odalia was as bad as a child. still vindictive and cruel but lacking most bite. again, akin to boscha, but perhaps a bit more tolerable. she had an image to uphold, and having two of the brightest witches in her year as friends was a key part.
he and darius were also very early friends. like attached at the hip and wouldnât do anything without the other friends. they met at school and alador was the one to introduce him to his (1) other friend.
i think alador may have been like the only one keeping their friend group together. i donât think he took too much notice of the tension between odalia and darius. either that or it was just easier to ignore it. neither was blowing anything up, so why should he point it out?Â
aladorâs been a disaster bi from the start, crushing on both of his friends because of their power and intellect and their physiques.Â
he was casually dating darius through their early teens and went to grom with him on more than one occasion.Â
despite this, his parents convinced him odalia was the better match for the long run. after all, they knew best and she was stable.Â
he broke things off with darius around their senior year without giving much of an explanation. he was already uncomfortable with communicating his emotions and he thought maybe darius wouldnât be upset and maybe they could still be friends like nothing happened.
yeah, no, he was wrong.Â
so, he turned to odalia.Â
i think that she was the one to give him the idea to monetize his creations, seeing them as the perfect weapons. i also think that they were business partners before they were romantic partners. they started the first iteration of blight industries the year they graduated.Â
in this starting stage where things were still modest, he was grateful for odaliaâs know-how; her marketing strategies; her financial literacy. he was happy to just tinker while innovating the field of abominations in ways that his family couldnât have expected.
they marry for tax benefits. thatâs it. unless you want to subscribe to the hc that they got married to hide the twinsâ pregnancy. which is another thought.
either way, i think they both were casual throughout their initial business partnership. very friends with benefits, if that. it was easier to not have so many emotions to muddle through. if there were any real feelings of love in the relationship it was early on and mostly coming from alador.Â
the wedding was large. it was a way to flex the familiesâ wealth.Â
alador absolutely considered reaching out to ask darius to be his best man, but even he recognized it was a bad idea. they hadnât had a real conversation for years and all their interactions at coven meetings had been frosty at best. still, he invited him to the wedding.
it turns out time does not heal all wounds.
