Walking on Water

Christo’s ‘Floating Piers’ installation finally opens to the public June 18th. The highly-anticipated reveal sees 100,000 square meters of shimmering yellow fabric wrap a floating dock that connects various points on Italy’s Lake Iseo. Undulating with the movement of the waves, visitors can now experience the ‘Floating Piers’ as they walk from Sulzano to Monte Isola and to the island of San Paolo, which it completely encircles. The 3 kilometer-long walkway extends clear across the water, with surrounding mountains offering a bird’s-eye view of a golden network of passageways that lead in and around the town. The fabric continues along 1.5 kilometers of pedestrian streets in Sulzano and Peschiera Maraglio.

The days spent alone

Dear followers,

I didn’t post anything for a long time, but the last days I reinforced my interest for my interests actually. I even posted something, which made me quite happy and curious again. I don’t really know why I didn’t do it for such a long time, but I guess life came in-between. 

The last days, I spent alone. I just moved to a new city, Madrid. All my friends are away for the weekend so I kind of had to spend the days alone. It was not my decision, but I am really glad that it happened. 

The days alone reminded me of my semester abroad 3 years ago, where I didn’t know anyone and had to experience all by myself. It reminded me on how valuable such experiences are. It reminded me on how good it can be to explore yourself, your own character. I began to think about my strengths and my weaknesses, about my life, my goals and my future. This can sometimes be very sobering, but it is important that you realize your own situation. I began to work on my weaknesses and to even improve my strengths and to be proud of myself. It gives you self-confidence. 

Find yourself, find your greatness.

Prospective Architecture:   House in the Woods Benoit Patterlini

Contemporary architecture can it still bring solutions to the welfare of humanity? In short, the architect does nowadays the way to cure the ills of society? Can it be a humanitarian role building works for others and not for the sole purpose of satisfying his enormous ego? Taking against the foot of what is done with my confreres European architects, I will try through unsolicited proposals to develop architectural projects fictitious. These proposals will be spontaneous as possible scenarios in their perceptions of the moment, on the basis of an empirical analysis of a given context and situation. This is what I call the prospective Architecture.

Juvet Landscape Hotel (aka Ex Machina Nathan’s House) Jensen & Skodvin Architects 

One of two locations that stand in for Ex Machina Nathan’s House, the Juvet Landscape Hotel is a meeting between raw Norwegian nature, cultural history and modern architecture. The first landscape hotel in Europe is situated in the farmyard of Burtigarden farm at Alstad in Valldal, on a steep, natural levee in between  birch, osp, pine and age-old boulders.

In this little village in rural Norway, modern architecture encounters the natural and cultural landscape – and shows that the modern and innovative can go hand in hand with local building traditions and good, old-fashioned handicrafts.
