Spoilers for part 6 of jjba under the cut! sorry for any bad phrasing, I’ll reread later and fix anything I need to.
Tired of seeing people defend Jotaro leaving Jolyne and her mom, but also sick of people treating Jotaro like he has 0 personality so here we are.
I don’t think Jotaro leaving Jolyne and her mom is justified. There were many other ways he could have gone about protecting Jolyne.
Is it in character?: Sure??
Jotaro is a very emotionally driven character, even if he is less expressive than most other characters in jjba. He tends to think with his heart, not his head, a lot. We see this in the Bug Eaten fight, where instead of doing literally anything else he nearly dies so that Josuke can safely shoot the rat. We also see this in the DIO fight, the Gambler D’Arby fight, and then we especially see this in part 6.
Jotaro’s emotional side ends up leading to his downfall. His urge to protect Jolyne drove them apart, and his urge to protect Jolyne led to his defeat and death.
He could have gone about this differently, if he thought about it. But due to Jotaro’s emotionally-driven personality, he went with what seemed to work best and what seemed to protect Jolyne most.
Even if that meant abandoning her, at least she was safe.
Until she wasn’t.
And Jotaro, being so caught up in protecting Jolyne, became basically dead in an attempt to keep her safe (by breaking her out of the prison). Then, when he regains consciousness and memory, he immediately goes to protect her again. And then, when he sees her in stopped time, in the same position he had once been put into (which I think was an amazing parallel btw) he does everything he can to protect Jolyne and then.. he dies.
Everything he did was to protect his daughter, ever since she was born.
What he did was wrong. He shouldn’t have abandoned Jolyne, he should have talked to his wife, or given her a clue, or something to let her know there was a reason for his lack of presence. But, he didn’t. Because he’s flawed. Because he makes mistakes. And he doesn’t try to justify it. He simply tells Jolyne that he always cared about her.
That’s what he says when he thinks he’s going to die. He could have said anything. But he wanted to make sure Jolyne knew he cared.
Anyways, Jotaro’s a really emotional guy, even if he doesn’t show it, and I’m tired of people acting like he’s got a rock for a personality.
it makes me so sad to see so many creators talking in the tags about how they’re not creating as much because less and less people are interacting. this is proof that interaction is vital. this is proof that a lack of interaction leads to discouraged creators and leads to less creations. liking—and only liking—does not encourage creators.
and that’s because (1) the purpose of this website is to share things that bring us joy and (2) likes don’t share things or ensure something is seen by more people, not like they do on other sites. so, when so many people decide to only like a post and not share it (i.e. not reblog it), that tells the creator that those people didn’t think their hard work was worth sharing with others. that’s discouraging.
and the creator isn’t the only one that gets something out of that. you get something, too. you get the joy of sharing something you like; that’s a meaningful experience for both you and for the creator. and that experience—that interaction—encourages the creator to create more, and so there’s more joy to be had for both you and the creator.
long story short, interaction (i.e., reblogging, which is interaction in its simplest form on this site) brings joy. it’s literally all about the joy, people. the joy in discovering and sharing and appreciating and marveling at creations. so please reblog—for everyone’s sake, including your own.
okay this is really long so im gonna put a cut here! sorry for any spelling errors or timeline errors. this is in a highschool setting(?) btw! All of the enemies from the canon are just from other schools that compete in colorguard competitions. Except for in the part 6 segment, then the enemies are just school bullies(?)
Jonathan, Dio, Erina, and Robert are the first official colorguard at their school (William is their coach). Jonathan, Dio, and William transfer (?) or get involved in an accident or something.
Then Joseph, Caesar, Suzie, Messina and Loggins are the next year’s colorguard group. Robert and Erina help out and assist Lisa Lisa (coach) with instruction as older guard members.
Jotaro, Jean, and Noriaki all join the guard a few years later. Joseph followed in (the now retired) Lisa Lisa’s footsteps and became a colorguard coach. Muhammad transfers to the school and already has plenty of experience. He helps Joseph teach, and ends up basically being the teacher because he ends up writing most of the work for their shows. Iggy is Joseph’s dog that just dies of old age sometime, and Muhammad cries over it so Jean starts crying anndd yeah.
Muhammad ends up leaving guard, and Noriaki ends up having to move. Jean has to transfer schools (that would be the school where p5 would take place).
So the next year Josuke, Okuyasu, Koichi, etc etc join colorguard. Yukako originally isn’t in their guard, but she notices Koichi during a contest, becomes obsessed with him, and convinces her parents to let her transfer schools. Jotaro helps their coach (still Joseph) teach the younger guard, and they have absolutely gorgeous shows because of course they do.
Meanwhile, Jean transferred schools. There he meets a young colorguard, and kinda helps out. He’s basically seen as an older brother to most of that guard. The only people who are also in his grade are some weird mean guys (La Squadra), Leone, and Bruno. Their teacher is The Boss, who seems a bit weird and can be really mean and strict one day and then really nice and fun the next. Due to their coach’s mood swings, Narancia quits/leaves guard. Leone and Bruno get into a car accident together that ends up really bad, and they end up unable to do guard for the rest of the year. Trish joins the guard, and ends up really liking it.
Most of La Squadra ends up quitting, because most of them just really didn’t like it or didn’t want to do the work. Orr they got kicked out of the classroom by The Boss (evil) and directly told that if they don’t want to do the work they can just quit and find someone else to bother.
for part 6, Jotaro teaches Jolyne how to do guard. He’s not really a coach?
Jolyne’s friends end up wanting to join her, so Jotaro kinda scrounges money together for flags and teaches a bunch of little kids how to dance. They make up a few shows together, and do those for fun. Jotaro gets to spend time with his daughter and bond over something with her, and get on better terms with his ex-wife. Win for everyone! Because the actual ending of part 6 makes me sad.
