I made three dragon egg inspired designs which are perfect to be given as a gift or as unusual home decor, I also decided to make time lapses on all my designs which I could only add one. Other time lapses of my creations can be found on my tiktok which I’ll add at the bottom of this blog.
All designs can be available on my Etsy which I will include a link to my store at the bottom of this blog. I hope this inspires more artists to step out their comfort zone as this is the biggest sculpture project I’ve been able to really enjoy. About ten years ago I used to make fimo clay charms so had some experience with using the clay but with this project I used air dry fimo clay and oven bake fimo clay, along with sculpey.
First I made a kawaii/steampunk inspired design, as I have never seen a collab of the two themes.
I had so much fun making this I used different kinds of fimo clay, metalic acrylic paint and variety of gemstones on metal parts which have all been carefully cut by hand. I secured a variety of teal beads on the top of the scales and in the middle of the cogs. To make my product a bit more cute I used some kawaii inspired decor pieces. I really like the metallic paint look and how it effects the overall theme along with a splash of cuteness. I used a dotting tool to puncture little holes in the clay I wanted to look like metal bolted to the outside.
A second design I made is a nature inspired egg, again all the leaves and vines are hand cut and embossed using a small dotting tool. I made bright green dragon scales and attached a variety of silver flower sequins with a small emerald green gemstone in the centre. I added lime green beads in the corners in between the scales I think it gives it more elevation. After I varnished the product I added glow in the dark paint to some of the leaves so it can come alive at night. I mixed green and acrylic white together but I left it a bit streaky so it leaves a rough look to it overall.
This is my last design which is anything and everything cute I’d love to design a cute dragon character to go along with this. All the scales are cut handmade, I mixed lilac and white together to get a marble effect and at the end of each scale I added a seaquin heart to each one using tweezers to help apply. I made pink and teal swirls with cute decor and stars. I found the finest and pinkest glitter I could get my hands on and sprinkles it at the top of the white. For finishing touch I varnished every area.
I had so much fun making all these designs I do have other design ideas that I thought of doing which are mainly element theme.
