Hey guys, I’ve been noticing a weird bombardment of the same questions over and over from various users on various platforms, and I wanted to take a minute and answer + add some thoughts.
1. WHAT TABLET DO YOU USE?
A: I currently use a Lenovo T x230. The biggest reason why I refrain from answering that question most of the time (which I get asked about 20+ times a day), is because it is NOT a good tablet laptop for drawing. And I do not want to recommend it to anyone. The only reason why I still use it for all my work is because it merely meets some really low standards and I pray every day that it won’t croak under the workload, I simply can’t afford a large Cintiq atm.
With 5 seconds of research it’s evident that 99% of professional artists use WACOM tablets, most commonly a Cintiq. So please guys…. there’s no secret brands of tablets that will magically increase skills tenfold and make drawing easy. Most tablets function the same, in my experience anyway, and artwork doesn’t improve with equipment change. It improves with skill. And skill only.
It’s Photoshop. I usually hashtag photoshop. Most professional artists use Photoshop.
All brushes I use are from Kyle’s Ultimate Brush set. (google dat shit, and buy it.)
Here’s a banal statement that everyone’s heard before - it’s not the tools, it’s the artist and their skills. This is true. The smoothness of the lines comes from the hand that drew them, not the photoshop brush preset.
Imagine you spend the whole day baking this beautiful and delicious cake, decorating it with love and dedication, pouring your heart and soul into it. And then at the end of the day people devour it, but all they have to say is this: “oh yo, what kind of sugar did you use?”
