Recipe Roundup in Review
In years past, I posted a two-month series of recipes suitable for the autumn season, which everyone seemed to enjoy very much. Iâve been too busy this year to make up a new queue, so I thought Iâd compile a big long list of links for anyone whoâs looking for recipe ideas this fall.
Update: Iâve posted more recipes since the original roundup and Iâve added those additional links to the list below. Iâve also done my best to mark which ones are vegetarian (đż) or could be easily altered to be so. (Some could also be altered for a vegan diet using egg, milk, or butter substitutes.) Recipes which may include alcohol as an ingredient are also marked (đˇ).
Some are fall-themed, others are for more wintry occasions. But all are designed to make the most of the season and keep our hearts and bellies full as we face the coming cold. Enjoy!

uhhh yes please?? đ
I don't know who (if anyone) needs to hear this, but witchcraft isn't sacred to every practitioner. It's not always filling some spiritual void they had, or becoming a huge part of their life and identity. It's not a religious experience for a lot of witches. Not everyone takes it super seriously at all times.
It can be a hobby. It can be a casual thing. It can be something fun they do every now and then.
Just because it's a certain thing for you, don't expect everyone else to feel exactly the same way.
TWO REBLOGS because I have something to say.
I don't have the spare brain folds to go into the depth I want to, but...
WITCHCRAFT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE A LIFESTYLE
Witchcraft doesn't have to be super intense or deep or soooo serious all of the time.
It doesn't even need to be something you do all of the time.
People are out here like... how do I maintain structured practice? How do I find the energy to cast spells on a regular basis? What skills do I need to learn next?
What if... witchcraft wasn't a job.
What if we didn't need to train for it like boot camp.
What if witchcraft is an ornament in our hair, a lovely little gem we wear when we are desirous to do so.
What if you learn magic tricks to make your life easier, and various spiritual skills as part of self care, and that's all you need? What if you don't need to train like you're trying to get on an Olympics team? What if it's any other hobby you pick up and set aside when it pleases you to do so?
I am a person who needs witchcraft in order to fill a spiritual void. It's an extremely huge part of my life and identity.
And not even I take it seriously all the time. Exhibit A, my public persona is a chicken with sunglasses called Fool.
I know there is a culture out here where witchcraft is treated as an identity, as a responsibility, as something you must train in and work for.
Yes, I enjoy producing content for the people who want to get elbow-deep in this big ol mess we call The Craft. But I worry that people find blogs like mine and think all that shit is necessary.
It ain't necessary and there are probably a lot of people out there who could be having a beautiful time but chose to stop at square one and pick up fifty pounds of Witchblr baggage instead.
So much for a concise tag system đ at least I actually tag things on this blog!
I did some maintenance on my book tonight, which included scrolling through all of my posts to update my tags reference page, adding the crystals that I've acquired recently, and making a page for all of the local metaphysical stores.
Finally have a space to practice đ¤

Samhain General Guide
Samhain, or âsummerâs end,â has several aspects. For the ancient Celts, Samhain marked summer coming to a close and the beginning of winter. It is considered the final harvest (for meat) of the year, the Celtic New Year, a time to honor oneâs ancestors, and a night that the veil between the physical and spiritual world is thinnest. It is thought that divination is more powerful at this time, that the faerie folk are more active and that the dearly departed are nearer to us (and thus easier to contact) for this reason. Today, Samhain takes place on October 31st.Â

ASTROLOGICAL ENCYCLOPEDIA: Relationship patterns
Have you ever felt like you attract certain signs or have a specific pattern of relationships with specific signs? Thatâs because each sign forms an aspect with the other signs (such as squares, opposites etc.) based on their position in the chart and the distance between those signs. This determines the way the relationship works. I started noticing these patterns in my relationships (also friendships) and researched a bit about it. Linda Goodman talks about these patterns in her Sun signs astrology textbook, but I think this pattern can be observed in any placement, not just Sun signs, especially Moon placements.
1-1 pattern
A 1-1 pattern describes a relationship between two people of the same sign, such as Pisces-Pisces, Aries-Aries etc. In this sign pattern, the strengths and weaknesses are magnified in both of you. Itâs easy to understand each other, but sometimes the lack of differences can bore you, as there is nothing to learn from each other. There is too much comfort. This can be different based on other sign placements. Be careful to not swing in extremes, as this may ruin the relationship.
2-12 pattern
This type of pattern is seen between two signs that fall right next to one another on the zodiac wheel. In these combinations, one person plays the teacher, and the other the student. There is something about this relationship that involves spiritual life lessons. Thereâs a compassion inherent between the individuals, and a patient understanding for the other partnerâs differences, there will be many.Â

3-11 pattern
A 3-11 pattern describes a relationship between two signs that fall three or eleven spaces apart from one another on the zodiac wheel, respectively. These combinations of signs will be fast friends, get along well with one another, although theyâll likely be annoyed by one another and probably find themselves bickering a lot. That said, the trust and love between these individuals makes any argument easy to overcome, and the friendship that ties them together will be lasting, even if the romantic relationship ends.

4-10 pattern
A 4-10 pattern describes a relationship between two signs that fall four or 10 spaces apart from one another on the zodiac wheel, respectively. These relationships are tough. It is hard to get along. Thereâs just something about this person that irks you, or makes you want them to put a lid on their personality. Someone plays the disciplinarian in this relationship, and their efforts to change the other person eventually ruins itâs chances for survival in a romantic sense.Â

5-9 pattern
The 5-9 pattern describes a relationship between two signs that fall five or nine spaces apart from one another on the zodiac wheel, respectively. It also describes any relationship between two signs of the same element. The chances for a permanent, lasting relationship between these signs is more feasible than any other combination, simply because there is such a natural empathy for the other personâs inherent qualities. Disagreements and fights between these signs are useful, productive even, because no time is spent wasted trying to understand behavior that is drastically different between the individuals. The understanding is already there.

6-8 pattern
A 6-8 pattern describes a relationship between two signs that fall six or eight spaces apart from one another on the zodiac wheel, respectively. This relationship pattern is like a witchâs spell. You are absolutely drawn in by one another, the charisma that this person exudes is what you find sexually stimulating about them. There is a desire to understand and get to the bottom of who this person is, and sex is generally the tool you use to do so. Thereâs also a greater than average willingness to be of service to this person, or a willingness on their part to be of service to you. Unfortunately this person puzzles you, and makes you feel as if youâll never get the natural sympathy required to make the relationship work.

7-7 pattern
A 7-7 pattern describes a relationship between two signs that fall seven spaces apart from one another on the zodiac wheel, on opposite sides respectively. Opposites do attract, and in romantic relationships, youâll find that youâre drawn to this person because they personify the characteristics you donât have. You have a lot to learn from one another, and with patience and understanding, relationships in a 7-7 pattern will allow both individuals to grow more together than in any other relationship. Beware of envy, as you might admire this person so much you actually wish you could be them. Remember you have qualities that they wish they possessed, too.

⧠Descendant Astrology âŠ
Your descendant is the opposite of your ascendant. The descendant is the completion of the ascendant. It shows what you unconsciously crave for in a relationship, how you aspire to be and on which level you can personally develop the most. Basically, the descendant reflects characteristics that you not always possess but which another person is able to provide you with and thus to make you feel happy and complete.

A Long List of Ways to Spiritually Protect Yourself
(Updated from this old list here.)
Shielding is a practice entirely built on your intentionâif you want an eternal shield, you can have it. If you believe in your shield, it will be there. There are many ways that are incredibly powerful with just the slightest trust and a little bit of practice. As soon as possible, start to practice shielding and methods of spiritual protection, since practice, along with your intention, will create the most powerful shields.Â
Also, you can never shield to much. Itâs amazing and very empowering to have layer upon layer of shielding, and the energy and time you put into shielding will really save you a lot of energy and time in the future. Even just walking around, through crowds, cities, etc, drains your energyânegative energy is everywhere, and consciously seeking only the energy for your best and highest good will really, truly, and completely empower you.Â
You can shield from anything and everything, just make sure to allow in things for your âbest and highest interest/good.â ShCast every shield with this affirmation. This allows what people would consider ânegativeâ emotions to still come through, so you can live a balanced life, since not all emotions that are considered negative actually are. This affirmation effectively only allows things that raise or balance your vibration, and help you to spiritually evolve. It wonât cut you off from anything necessary. Shields themselves will never overwhelm or smother you, since they are meant solely for your needs and will always let in positive energy. Here are some simple methods to begin shielding, but you can always adopt them with your own needs and intentions! Do what works for you, just make sure to shield when practicing spirit or energy work of any sort.Â
Robe of White Light:
Focus for a moment on calming yourself, and once you have a clear mind, imagine a nice fluffy robe around you (I always imagine one like in the game Journey) made of white and protective light. This is the universeâs energy, and nothing ill can penetrate it once it is surrounding you.
It is recommended to repeat once or twice a day to maintain the shielding.
You can also use the affirmation of âI call upon a robe of loving and protective white light, knowing that it will protect me from all energy not in my highest interest. This robe protects me with the power of the Universe/Source/God.â
Guardian Protection:
Ask your guardian spirits (either aloud or through your mind) to protect you.
Always command that the guardians who help that they âcome in light.â And if not, say they must leave. You donât even have to know their name, but if they arenât here to help, then they shouldnât be around you. So just command this and all with ill intentions will be forced to leave.
Call on them for a need by need basis.
Auric Hardening:
Imagine your aura (trust whatever color you see in your mindâs eye), and then imagine it hardening, like itâs calcifying around you. It can get as hard as a rock, or like armor.
This can sometimes push away any energy exchanges, so you could feel more distant from positive interactions too. So, itâs best used when a threat is around
Usually lasts between 4 hours-2 days, depending on the strength of your intention.
Sigil warding:
Draw with a pen, marker, or with the tip of your finger (if you donât need visible lines) a sigil with the intention of protecting yourself. A sigil is most basically an energetic line (or series of them) with an intention. The lines hold the energy and magnify the intention.
Here are examples
A post on sigil crafting
Shielding with Intention and the Universe:
Calm yourself with a short breathing meditation, then focus on what you intend to shield-yourself, another, or a place.
Imagine casting a ball of light towards the designated target, with the intention of allowing the Universe/Source to channel through you and shield whatever you intend to.
Just watch and observe as the shield is built, knowing that it is fully fueled by the energy of the Universe and will stay there, and stay strong, until the shield is released consciously by you.
You can specify this shield for certain purposes, like to only keep a spirit out, or to keep all negative spirits out.
Reiki Shielding and Protection:
In Usui Reiki, there is a technique your Reiki Masters should have taught you about warding and cleansing the room in white light. Channel Reiki energy to do this.
If you are attuned to Reiki II, you should know the 1st symbol and that it can be used to stop all energy that is not in your highest good from coming towards you, working as an effective shield when the symbol is called on.
You need to be properly attuned to Reiki for this.
Bubble shielding:
Similar to the white light or shielding with intention, but focusing on making and empowering a bubble around you.
Replenish this as often as possible, since this is dependent on your own care.
Can be in an oval or a sphere shape. If this is hard to get a hang of, then try just fitting it a couple inches away from your body, similar to auric hardening.
Waterfall shielding:
A bubble shield with the intention of existing on top of an underneath bubble shield.Â
Focus on this shield and set the intention of having it move around like a waterfall. This way, someone sending negative energy has a very small chance of hitting the same place twice.
Elemental shielding:
All of these are built with a specific intention and visualization of the shield. Time around such element used will strengthen the shield, or a conscious meditation to draw the energy towards you and the shield.
Fire shield: Envision burning fire, that will destroy all negative energy/energy not for your highest good, when it tries to enter your energetic space.
Water shield: Similar to the waterfall shield, but with the visual of actual water flowing that can wash away all negative debris or toxicity clinging to any form of bubble shield underneath it.Â
Earth shielding: This one can block off positive energy too, since it works more like a layer of earth around the person. Though, it can also be envisioned to only grow/manifest around you in times of need or when youâre being attacked or faced with negative energy. It can also block your third eye from seeing outside. Earth shielding can also work as a means of grounding you, which doesnât have negative effects (as long as you donât neglect your upper chakras). If you ground yourself to the earth, and your are harmed or shaken by negative energy, you can replenish your energy from the earth.
Air shielding: Envision a fast current of air around you that sweeps away all negative energy or malevolent beings.
Light shielding: A bright white light that totally purifies all energy that contacts it, similar to the robe of white light. Different colored lights can work too, but they all have specific purposes that you should research first.
Ether shielding: Sometimes this works like a portal, transporting all malevolent energy to another place in the universe. Just make sure to set the intention that things in your best and highest interest arenât affected, and that the travel wonât severely harm anyone who is transported by the portal (since sometimes negative energy can come from just someone in a bad mood).Â
Chaos shielding: Not always considered an element, but with the idea of scattering any negative energyâthe sudden increase in entropy raises the vibration to something more positive.
Shadow and smoke shielding: Imagining either element around you, mostly for cloaking and making your energy less obvious. This is great for astral projection and spiritual travel when you donât want to be noticed. You can infuse the energy with an intention of how you want to be perceived, like if a threat comes, then you can suddenly raise this shield and make the smoke cause you to seem dangerous, scaring off the opponent.Â
Halo shielding:
Imagine a series of halos that spin quickly around you, moving to knock away negative energy if it approaches your space. This can be inside or outside of a bubble or light based shield.
Protection charms and enchanted objects:
Work made by you, when you have a lot of experience, in creating a sigil charm or enchanted object meant for protection. This can also be from someone who has passed down a family protection amulet (just research it and bathe it in light to clear any possible negative energy on it), or from an experienced energy worker making protection amulets, charms, or objects.Â
Some are religiously charged, like crosses, pentagrams, etc. If this matches your belief, your belief will empower it.Â

The 12th House, Karma and The Womb Experience
When you look at someone, there are some things you notice right away. Â You say to yourself,Â
âHmm, she looks very kind and sweet-natured,â or âMy, she looks butch.â
In her horoscope, the chances are good that these things have to do with the 1st house, which holds whatever a person wants to project. Â Itâs not that she isnât kind, or butch, or competent, or whatever sheâs projecting. Â She probably is. Â However, that isnât necessarily her whole self.
Whatâs hidden behind that face? Â To find out, we go to the 12th house. Â In the 12th are the things you might learn on a dark night, around a campfire - or perhaps when youâre in bed after making love. Â Or you might never learn them, because she doesnât know them herself. Â
Looking at your natal chart, the 12th house is the one just above the eastern horizon.  The eastern horizon (the rising sign, or ascendent) is the furthest point on the left, and the first house is the wedge going down from there.  The houses (pie-shaped wedges) go around the circle from 1 to 12 in a counter-clockwise direction, so the 12th is the one just above the 1st.  Many charts have little numbers close to the center of the wheel, telling you which house is which.
The 12th house represents the underpinnings of your life. Â If you can imagine yourself packing a psychic suitcase before bidding all your friends in the other world goodbye and then sliding into the womb, then the 12th house would be the contents of that suitcase. Â
In the womb, youâre sensitive to certain kinds of phenomena, and these phenomena reflect whatever youâve got in your psychic suitcase. Â After all, youâve picked birth-parents and a birth situation that will help you resolve your last experience, whatever it was. Â If you had a traumatic past life, then your new life will help you heal from that. Â Likewise, it will be a chance to use the talents and skills that you developed then.
If you have more than one planet in the 12th, then you are working through a lot of past-life issues. Â Twelfth-house planets are shadowy, but you are always aware of them on a subliminal level. Â A 12th-house emphasis can mean spending a lot of time on a spiritual quest, or perhaps talking to a therapist, working out whatâs buried within you, figuring out what to do about it.
A strong 12th house will often give artistic talents. Â After all, the muse especially loves to visit those who are peering into the shadows, looking for buried truths.
In the old books, the 12th-house is called âthe house of self-undoingâ.  Thatâs because you often tend to ignore or repress what lies in your 12th house.  At the same time, you generally canât help acting it out in one way or another - and so you often feel compelled in this area.  If you reject your 12th house planets, if you donât admit that theyâre part of you, then you can end up condemning yourself.  If you accept that they are you, you can learn from them.  And you will often discover that they have wonderful gifts to give you. Â
If youâre looking at the horoscope of a potential or actual lover, her 12th house will explain some of her unconscious behavior. Â You can encourage her to express these traits in a positive way, and you can love them in her (even if she doesnât love them in herself). Â And if youâre trying to figure out where you might have intersected in a past life, her 12th house planets might give you a clue. Â Â Â Â
The Sun
If your sun is in the 12th, you were a leader in a past life. Â You were very visible, and a great deal was expected of you. Â (Your sun-sign will give you some clues about what made you famous.) Â This sense of specialness continues while youâre in the womb. Â Everyone is aware of you, waiting for you to emerge. Â You may be awaited eagerly, or you may be notorious even before your birth, but you are definitely a force to be reckoned with right from the beginning. Â
During this lifetime, itâs easy for you to take leadership positions, and to exert your authority, even when you donât realize youâre doing it. Â Often you show fierce independence, with a compelling need to do things in your own way.
The Moon
If your moon is in the 12th, you arrived with a lot of emotional baggage, and some of it probably has to do with the person who is your mother (in this life). Â You may have loved and protected her in a past life, and so you were drawn back to be with her. Â Or you may have been royally angry at her, perhaps deceived by her, and so you incarnated to get things squared away. Â During your time in the womb, you are very conscious of her - everything she feels, everything she experiences. Â During this lifetime, you respond to a great many things in an emotional way, even though you donât always realize it. Â You could be moody at times. Â Itâs not easy to get in touch with your emotional needs, but you can see what these needs are by looking at your moon-sign. Â
Mercury
If your Mercury is in the 12th, you focused on ideas and theories in past lives. You may have been engaged in figuring out some scientific phenomenon, or counting how many angels dance on the head of a pin - and then your time was over, and you never did work it out. Â So you arrived with a consuming intellectual curiosity, which may go in a single direction, or may branch out in different areas. Â Itâs often said that an unborn child can hear everything that is said in her vicinity, and this was definitely true of you. Â
During this lifetime, you are still haunted by the need to know. Â But sometimes you can over-intellectualize, reducing everything to an idea. Â Communication is especially important to you, and you can sometimes be compulsive about it. Â If you canât share your thoughts and ideas, the frustration can be intense. Â
Venus
If your Venus is in the 12th, you may have been a great beauty or a great poet in a previous life. Â Your focus was on pleasure, and this could have meant the ecstasy of art, the excitement of sexual escapades, or the passion of a great romance. Â You might have been a Juliet, or you could have lived happily for a lifetime with your lover. Â Whichever it was, there was a sense of leaving before all your pleasures were done. Â In the womb, you are very aware of the love - or the lack of love - in your new life. Â
During this lifetime, you want love more than anything, but you canât always admit this to yourself.  And so you can be compulsive about anything connected to pleasure, beauty and romance.  You can diet unmercifully, or even go in for plastic surgery.  You can go from one lover to the next.  But once you work through your insecurities in this area, you have a very deep love to give. Â
Mars
If your Mars is in the 12th house, then you have a very butch shadow.  In a past life, you may have been a soldier, a martial artist, or someone who competed fiercely in the sports arena.  The 12th-house Mars shows quite a bit of jostling when you were in the womb, and it can mean that your mother had accidents, surgeries, or other crises during this time.  You felt that life was going to be a very physical thing. Â
During this lifetime, you really need to express yourself on the physical level. Â However, this isnât always easy to do, and you may sometimes deny your will and your impulses, feeling that theyâre not really âyouâ. Â This often backfires, and you do rash things on impulse. Â Mars is also the planet of anger, and you can squelch anger till it explodes, or until it makes you ill. Â You have to find healthy physical outlets. Â
Jupiter
If your Jupiter is in the 12th house, then you were a social force of some kind in a past life.  You might have been very rich or you might have had noble blood.  You were established in some way, a pillar of the community.  You made yourself pretty comfortable while in the womb, and your mother probably gets a lot of good medical care.  This could have meant doctors, or it could have meant aunts with herbal remedies, but there was a sense of abundance, and you tapped into this.
During this lifetime, itâs important for you to be part of the community.  Jupiter is the planet of expansion, and so you may have a tendency to overdo everything - for instance, starting an enormous number of projects, or spending more money than you have.  Youâre always hungry for more, especially more social attention, and so you need to find a welcoming, warm community with which to share your enthusiasms.
Saturn
If your Saturn is in the 12th house, then you are dealing with a karmic loss of some kind. This is the position which shows most past-life suffering, and it can mean bringing regret, sorrow or guilt with you. Â In the womb, conditions were a bit limiting, one way or another. Â Your new family may have been poor, depressed, or over-burdened with responsibilities, and you picked up on this, and didnât feel overly comfortable.
During this lifetime, you frequently return to an old sense of sorrow or deprivation. Thereâs some part of you that has trouble believing that you deserve to be happy, and so you can unconsciously sabotage your own projects and opportunities.  Once you work through your karmic trauma, forgiving yourself and others, your 12th-house Saturn gives you a great deal of wisdom. Â
Uranus
If your Uranus is in the 12th house, you are influenced by a past life that was exciting, turbulent, full of shocking changes. Â You might have been in the middle of a revolution, an earthquake, or a tidal wave. Â In the womb, there continued to be some disruptions. Â Your family may have been reeling from some sudden change, and you got the sense that things wouldnât calm down anytime soon.
During this lifetime, you expect things to change, and you are always on your toes. Â You have a lot of nervous energy, a tendency to suddenly and compulsively rock the boat. Â Itâs not that you donât prize stability, but thereâs a part of you that doesnât quite believe in it. Â However, your 12th-house Uranus gives you wonderful creative gifts, and so itâs important to find people and organizations who appreciate your innovative ideas. Â
Neptune
If your Neptune is in the 12th house,  you were once a dreamer, a poet, a spiritual figure, or perhaps a drug addict.  You dwelt in the realm of the imagination, always attuned to other dimensions.  You may have experienced intrigues, illusions, deception, and confusion, and you arrived in the womb with some definite trust issues.  In the womb, too, it was hard to know what was what.  It could be that your mother drank or used drugs, or that she was exposed to other toxic elements in her environment. Â
During this lifetime, you may find yourself dealing with a compulsive urge to escape from reality. Â You can imagine a life in which there is perfect peace, beauty, love and joy, and itâs easier to live in your imagination than to stick your consciousness to the physical plane. Â You have wonderful creative and spiritual gifts, but need to stay grounded enough to give them. Â
Pluto
If your Pluto is in the 12th house, you dealt with some heavy power issues in a past life. Pluto is about the collective unconscious, and so you may have found yourself dealing with the shadowy elements of society - criminals, prejudiced people, crazed mobs, war hysteria, or other kinds of mass psychosis.  In the womb, you were aware that your family was marked by some deep inner divisions, perhaps issues of good vs. evil, or life vs. death. Â
During this lifetime, you know yourself to be a survivor, but you are still conscious of deep inner urges which donât seem to fit. Your psyche sometimes seems to be a Pandoraâs box, full of every random need or desire known to humankind.  You may be afraid of your own power, but itâs important to realize that you possess more than the power to harm.  You also have the power to do great good in the world.  Â
