quote in 5th gif: 既是故人，便让他留在故事里。 故人 (gù rén) can mean "person of your past" or "person who has passed away", while 故事 (gù shì) usually means "story", but if understood as the separate characters, it literally means "thing/ event of the past". hence, to keep the same (or similar) poetry in chinese where 故 was used twice, I translated the full sentence as "since he has already passed, let him stay in the past" vs. the original translated "since he's your deceased friend, let him stay in the story."

quote in 7th gif: 花有重开日，人无再少年。不须长富贵，安乐是神仙。 a poem recited by llh, the literal translation is "there will come a day when flowers blossom again, man has no youth again. one does not need wealth and riches for a long period of time, the one who is peaceful/ content is a deity." in order to retain the rhyme and some semblance of poetry, I've translated it loosely as "once more will flowers bloom, yet youth goes with the wind. seek not eternal wealth, the peaceful will be king."

so emotional about the number of times we see fang duobing explicitly rejecting li lianhua's little "now, now, is that how you treat your shifu" jibes after the li lianhua = li xiangyi reveal. they've started their acquaintance as equals, and he wants it to stay that way.

and you can see that, subtly, li lianhua is becoming interested in passing on his legacy to fang duobing as the end approaches! as the plot closes, he is back to being li xiangyi in some aspects, just trying to tie all the loose ends together before death, so he starts to make those little references here and there, but fang duobing refuses steadily, each time, like nope. you are staying alive. li lianhua. you are li lianhua and you're going to live and it's really like a declaration of love in a name

and yeah, god, now im so unwell about the use of names and the meaning they hold in this show

About the blogger

Hi there random person who probably happened upon my blog due to some of my very old gifsets. Yes I am still alive and well so you don’t have to wonder what happened to the blogger like I used to do about the abandoned blogs. I just lost interest in tumblr suddenly one day and moved to twitter stan life. I have very different interests now, I stan BTS and ma dao zu shi now and I am one season behind on SPN but I will get back to it soon, I am trying my best. That’s all I guess.
