New Frontier

It’s a fresh start for me today and I’ve been looking for a change. Back to making arte my life and back again to move forward to see where this path leads me. 2018 is my year.

This podcast points out how even the biggest creatives out there can’t escape the influence of the suits. Money wins every time.  The corruption that spreads through the game industry is so foul that I’ve long been turned off by it. Loot boxes, and micro-transactions, mobile game designs seeping into AAA titles that the mass consumer have grown to accept. I’m still trying to find my place in all of this. But its never just that easy.

This in Japanese mythos is a #Gema #Sennin a medicine man who is usually accompanied by a#toad and can transform into one. Another interpretation of this being is in the anime #naruto in the form of #jiraya . Anyway Just getting used to my new #iPadpro on #procreate this is my first illustration in a long time!

Time Machine

Craziest concept hit me today. Issac Newton states that some stars lights could take eons to reach us. That they are so far away that by the time their light hits us, they are already dead. 

By this logic, the only time-travelling machine in existence today is the telescope.

I feel I had a lot of growth lately. As an artist, it is always such a pleasure to see how much you’ve grown and how you learned. This piece here is a concept of a sinister character meant for a story driven murder mystery game.  Lighting makes a big part in this portrayal. As he should always be physically in a shroud of darkness, as is his character.  More to come.

Finally I got around to working on this some more. Hand painted all of the woods and when all of the other elements come into the scene. This might all make sense. :) A simple variation in color helps to make the tiles on the roof pop and add character. Great contrast to the brown of the wood.

Portfolio Thoughts

Think for now Ill focus on mini environments until I’m really good at them. Then focus next on a collection of smaller items like potions and weapons all in one album that shares similar themes. Then Ill do another huge enviro piece to sum it all up. All hand painted and crafted.  Theres never been a better time to switch focus on my art. I feel very confident in my skills these days and I am willing to sacrifice the comforts that I have now to achieve what I’ve ultimately wanted. A game dev career.  Although I work on my personal games now and have a huge impact on the design and such, its not really the same compared to being integrated into an already working well oiled machine that is a AA game dev company. One day soon though I’ll get there and I’ll have the greatest moment of my life, again. :)

Top there is the finished Tile-able texture. With the bottom left being the high poly geometry that I baked from and into a flat plane. (bottomRight) Textures were composited and hand painted in Photoshop. This was by far my most successful attempt at tile-able texture creation :) I am well on the way!

The web's best 3d modeling tutorials and training videos for popular 3d modeling software including 3ds Max, Maya, ZBrush, UE4, UDK, Mudbox, Unity, ZBrush and more.

I would really love to match this artistic style.

Had a little bit of fun with these voxels. Perhaps one day soon I may use them for play testing future games. Specially that they are so easy to rig and animate, no wonder developers are starting to use them more often.

Thought it’d be pretty fun to play with this guy again. Maybe Ill use him to wack some things around? Who knows.
