Summary: The main character Sarah, pictured above with her daughter Lucy, is a lonely housewife who carves for a new and thrilling life. Her and her husband have severely disconnected losing all the intimacy they had together. The other main character Brad, pictured above with his son Aaron, is an aspiring lawyer, who failed the the BAR exam twice. That leaves his wife to be the money maker. Thus, Brad doesn't like the role of Mr. mom and having to be the house dad all the time.
Their lives cross one day when both of their children are playing on the same swing set. Brad takes in interest in Sarah and tells her they should meet up one day at the community pool. At first, Sarah is denial believing that it is too good to be true but with further disconnection from her husband, Sarah decides to meet up with him at the pool. The two form a friendship as well as an unconscious lust for each other. One day, the two can't deny the spark any more and have an affair.
Throughout the movie, there are deep intrapersonal conflicts going on inside their heads. They keep having the affair even though they both admit that what they're doing is wrong. They are more compatible with each other than with their respective spouses, but it's obviously the wrong thing to do. Cheating is cheating no matter how you look at it. Towards the end of the movie, Brad asks Sarah to run away with him. However, that would mean he would have to leave his son behind as he would have sever separation anxiety if he couldn't see his mother. Even though Sarah would bring her daughter, Lucy wasn't happy at all to leave home. Now there's interpersonal conflicts with Sarah and Brad's family as running away together would require extreme compromises.
At the end of the movie, the two end up staying separate. While Sarah was waiting in the park for Brad, she realized she belonged at home with her daughter. On the way to meet up with Sarah, Brad was in a accident. At the hospital, he realized that he too belong with his son and decided to stay with his wife.
