Conclusion paragraph

Throughout this project, I was able to make many personal connections especially in artifact one and four. I was able to see the bigger picture of things. My last artifact shows how I was able to overcome a conflict in a healthy way. I would have never known that my life was a living example of the focus question. I am also interested in psychology so it was easy for me to connect different concepts. This has helped me understand psychology better as I was able to apply what I learned to my own life or other’s people lives’. For me, I never had any personal experience with addiction or eating disorders so it was harder for me to connect with those.

In the end though, it is a lot more interesting when you can personally relate to something. Then you can truly understand the situation and know all the feelings and emotions that come with it.

Summery: This personal experience of mine happened two years ago when Kevin Gilbert died. About two months prior, I was having a hard time with another kid that was in my gym class. He was on my basketball team and he was one of those competitive kids that took gym very seriously. The problem was that I was (and still am) horrible at playing basketball. A game of basketball is simply me embarrassing myself for five minutes. Because of that, my teammate gave me a hard time because to him, I was useless. This made me very angry towards him. I hated him very much and he was just someone that I never wanted to be around.

            Then came that unforgettable morning in March. As I sat down in the cafeteria with my friend, I saw that everyone looked devastated. I had no idea what was happening. The kid that I hated was especially upset. He was an absolute wreck. The announcements came on later and I realized what happened. My perspective was dramatically changed that day.

Analysis: I have always thought that seeing pain in your enemies was the sweetest revenge. For me however, that was not the case. Not at all. Despite how much I hated him, I felt no better seeing him broken up. In fact, I was heartbroken. No one deserves to be put through such emotional trauma. Most of the other kids were upset, but he was close with Kevin so he took the death harder than most other kids. Ever since that day, I never hated the kid as much as I did before. I was never became best friends with him but I let go most of my anger towards him.

 Before, I felt very vulnerable and insecure when this kid would rip me apart over not being a good athlete. When I saw his vulnerability, he did not seem so different from me. That is why grief can bring people together. Death makes us the most vulnerable and scared leaving us isolated. Yet, when people around you are experiencing the same thing, you can unconsciously bond with them to make you feel better. Kevin’s death was tragic and we all wish it could have been prevented. If it had to be this way, some good did at least come out of it. Two years later, I now sit next to this kid in math. We have no problems and we act civil to each other. Death is always very tragic no matter what the circumstance. It is important to then pick up the broken pieces and move on.

Summery

The song is about how someone reaches the end. The don't know how they got there but they can't stop the pain or make it go away. The lyrics such as "I wanna start over, I made my mistakes, I can't erase the things I've done," show that there is a lot of regret and remorse as well. It is almost saying that something big had to happen in order for this person to realized he or she was on the wrong path in life.

“No, no, no. It’s not the cheating. It’s the hunger - the hunger for an alternative and the refusal to accept a life of unhappiness.”

Analysis: This quote from the movie is the key point of all of its ideas. This movie explores the concept of the pursuit of happiness, which something we can all relate to. What we have been brainwashed to believe is that we need to do what makes us happy. Once you find what makes you happy, you're supposed to pursuit to the very end and no one is allowed to being you down for it because it's your own happiness. But, is there a line that can we can cross while we're pursuing that happiness? What would you do if you were Brad or Sarah? Would do the morally wrong thing and run away with the person to be happy or would you stay in the more miserable life and do the morally right thing? Personally, I come from a divorced family. My father left because like Brad, he was unhappy with his life and eventually wanted to be with someone else. While that was going on, I've heard the "you need to find your own happiness" talk from him many times. For me, I feel he did cross the line when he was searching for his own happiness. I believe that you cross that line when your happiness happens at the expense of others happiness.

   My dad's actions are nearly parallel to Brad's. He was willing to leave his wife and kids behind to go out and be happy. Yet, I feel like you can never be truly happy once you cross that line. The reason is because of those heavy comprises. With my father leaving, I've lost almost all contact with him. He couldn't have my respect and proximity and still be living with someone else. The same would happen with Brad and Aaron if he followed through with his original plans. Happiness is supposed to be unconditional but having compromises is something that shouldn't exist in true happiness.

    I wish that my life could have ended up more like the movie but unfortunately, that did not happen. However, I really enjoyed the movie because I could personally relate to the conflicts going on. It was really interesting to see a movie that was about an event that happened in my life. Although the movie was a lot more glamorous and overdone than what my life was, it all came back to the idea of can you take happiness too far?

Summary: The main character Sarah, pictured above with her daughter Lucy, is a lonely housewife who carves for a new and thrilling life. Her and her husband have severely disconnected losing all the intimacy they had together. The other main character Brad, pictured above with his son Aaron, is an aspiring lawyer, who failed the the BAR exam twice. That leaves his wife to be the money maker. Thus, Brad doesn't like the role of Mr. mom and having to be the house dad all the time.

   Their lives cross one day when both of their children are playing on the same swing set. Brad takes in interest in Sarah and tells her they should meet up one day at the community pool. At first, Sarah is denial believing that it is too good to be true but with further disconnection from her husband, Sarah decides to meet up with him at the pool. The two form a friendship as well as an unconscious lust for each other. One day, the two can't deny the spark any more and have an affair.

  Throughout the movie, there are deep intrapersonal conflicts going on inside their heads. They keep having the affair even though they both admit that what they're doing is wrong. They are more compatible with each other than with their respective spouses, but it's obviously the wrong thing to do. Cheating is cheating no matter how you look at it. Towards the end of the movie, Brad asks Sarah to run away with him. However, that would mean he would have to leave his son behind as he would have sever separation anxiety if he couldn't see his mother. Even though Sarah would bring her daughter, Lucy wasn't happy at all to leave home. Now there's interpersonal conflicts with Sarah and Brad's family as running away together would require extreme compromises.

  At the end of the movie, the two end up staying separate. While Sarah was waiting in the park for Brad, she realized she belonged at home with her daughter. On the way to meet up with Sarah, Brad was in a accident. At the hospital, he realized that he too belong with his son and decided to stay with his wife.
