This little ghost picture happened totally by accident! I wanted to create a cosy interior for my children's book and accidentally hit the colour reverse button! I liked the spooky atmosphere so the ghost followed naturally :)

So, a very spontaneous weekend trip took me to Berlin, to the C/O Gallery to be more precise, to experience the wonderful work by Anton Corbijn! I was whirling up with emotions standing in the middle of all those intimate portraits and group shots of all my favorite artists! Anton Corbijn is responsible for some of the most iconic pictures of all groundbreaking artists from the past 40 years. Now he has given up photography as a career because he doesn’t want to switch to the digital method and today’s fast pace. Due to our smart phones and social medias “PHOTOGRAPHY as a slow, analogue art-form is dead”, claims “The Economist’s” blog from Nov 24th 2015, But I don’t believe this to be true. There is no comparison between the esthetics of Corbijn’s extremely well composed, grainy photos and the snapshots and selfies taken using the built in settings of our new gadgets. Corbijn’s work radiates the trust and intimacy that was established through a friendship he was able to build with each subject, due to the long amount of time that he allocated to the task. Where as our cellphones are designed to quickly capture a moment, a visual diary to remember what we were up to and who we meet in our lives, each of Corbijn’s picture is a unique work of art. Wether analogue or digital, to produce an image that does deserve the tag “art”, the process will surely take longer than the 2 seconds it takes to do a selfie. If you love the buzz of analogue photography, the meditating process in the “real” lab, don’t get discouraged by statements such as mentioned above! I’m sure I itch to get my analogue camera out again and change our bath into a darkroom!
New Year, New Start
My new year resolution to finally start blogging didn’t begin promising at all, as we’re almost half through the first month and I still haven’t written anything! The main reason for this miserable state of affairs probably is because I don’t quite know how to start…
Let me try by introducing myself: I’m Vee, an illustrator and musician, based in London, somewhere between finding my own voice as an artist and establishing my source of income through my art. Not an easy task! And that task is exactly what I will make my blog about! I will document how I get on, my success and failures, sprinkled with tips and pep talk, garnished with art. I hope to help artists who come across the same experiences and struggles and make them feel less alone against the world!
I wish everybody a very successful 2016! Vee
