While I'm not sure I buy the theory about Katsuki ending up as a vestige in OFA, I'm still going to throw this theory into the ring since it would offer some weight to Toga's interference.

What if the reason Katsuki is seeing All Might's vestige is due to Izuku rejecting the ides of sharing the same heart and mind as him? This then triggers vestige All Might to see out of the person who Izuku would want to share those things with. While the space we see Vestige All Might and Katsuki in isn't OFA, I do believe the timing of these events are meant to line up to the scene we just say with Toga. What is it that Izuku notices as he's flying back? Could it be Katsuki's spirit hurdeling towards him? We'll just have to wait and see.

Reguardless, the placement of events is odd for Katsuki of all characters to have truly kicked the can. There's so many possibilities in how he could be brought back either through OFA, the second user, Eri, or if Horikoshi really wanted to, made it so Izuku had a quirk all along (though, I'd prefer not to see that) and healed him. The beautiful thing about MHA is the plot loves its misdirections and it's only fitting to see how the rest of this situation will play out.

When you Miss the Point

When you try adding onto a point but the person comes to attack you anyway even though nothing you said invalidates the original point. People are so sensitive and will take one thing out of context despite that small detail not being what the whole meaning was. Bakudeku are clearly close, but a good chunk of the general “friendship” stuff is often attributed to either those explosive emotional moments, or are clarified in flashbacks. Class 1A isn’t really in the know about how close they are BECAUSE so much of it is out of their view--kind of like our own as the readers. We know Izuku and Katsuki mean the world to one another but to attribute “best friend” not only feel like a disservice to Izuku’s earlier friends, it just doesn’t feel natural narratively speaking. we don’t see a traditional friendship between the two of them and that’s my entire point. The world “best friend” doesn’t exactly feel earned narratively speaking because that’s not the relationship being portrayed.

Ni+Te versus Ti

It is easy to confuse Ni and Ti because they both share analytical properties.

Both Te/Ti are Thinking functions and use reason to evaluate data. They both look for cause-effect relationships. Te evaluates data for predictable rules and principles because it needs to take action effectively and efficiently, whereas Ti evaluates data for rules and principles that are internally consistent. Te does not care about the rules and principles in themselves as long as they work well for doing things effectively in the external world, whereas Ti cares about whether the rules and principles are consistent with other rules and principles, it is more systematic and wants to create a holistic and coherent theory regardless of whether or not that theory agrees with objective principles and, in order to do this, it needs to gather much more data than Te. Te sees a reliable cause-effect relationship and can move forward immediately, whereas Ti sees a cause-effect relationship and first wants to know what lies behind that relationship (the “why”) before it can move forward. Te utilizes easily observable formulas, whereas Ti utilizes elegant formulas it has created itself. Since they are both Thinking functions, they will sometimes agree about the truth of certain rules or principles but the path they take to reach agreement differs.

Ni gathers data about abstract implications, trying to see something from many angles in order to accurately predict what might happen. This resembles Ti to some extent because it is also holistic in nature in terms of wanting to understand the bigger picture and it also wants to understand future effects. But Ni is a perceiving function so it is deeper and more sprawling and connects many different kinds of abstract relationships, not just cause-effect ones (e.g. metaphorical, symbolic, qualitative, logical, correlational, interpersonal, etc). Ti is a judging function so it connects concepts directly and efficiently by ruthlessly excising “irrelevant” information, whereas Ni takes in as much information as possible and links it to one’s knowledge in any way possible. Ni hoards all information, whereas Ti wants to take a knife to it once it is collected through the perceiving functions. Ti sees the world like a machine, with many different parts working together, but the parts are clearly separate and understood separately and then put back together into a closed system - anything unrelated to the “system” is cut away and dismissed. Ni sees the world like a network, but the parts are not clearly defined and not necessarily logically connected. So Ni needs a judging function to help it understand those connections more clearly. Ni needs Te to systematize itself.

INTJs use Te to make sense of Ni’s data in accordance with objective rules and principles, so Ni+Te can easily be mistaken for Ti. But Te has an outward focus and is action-oriented. Ni makes INTJs want to understand the world and Te makes them want to act on that knowledge either to realize potential or act in accordance with the future potential that they see. Ti is not action-oriented. It focuses on deriving formulas rather than long range future potential unless it has another function like Ne or Ni to assist it, so Ti is much more limited and simplistic in what it can handle compared to Ni+Te because Ni has a broader and deeper scope.

If INTJs get “stuck in their heads” and are too passive in life, they will start to feel uncomfortable because they have an underlying need to be part of the world and make things happen because of Te. If they don’t listen to that need, they will feel restless, as though they are wasting their life. “Passive” INTJs who have not developed Te well enough are more likely to think they use Ti because Fi loop corrupts the proper expression of Te and Fi. These INTJs just do what they feel like doing and ignore the call of Te+Se to take action, and this can eventually lead to existential dissatisfaction.

Uraraka and the idea of Love

I just finished rewatching the first three season of My Hero Academia and something that stood out to me was the different ways Uraraka’s crush on Deku is interpreted. She’s first confronted with the idea by Aoyoma in the semester finals. In particular he assumes she’s thinking about Midoriya which provides our first insight into this whole idea: Thinking of a particular person equates to potentially liking them. 

This idea of thinking of someone you look up to for guidance had been a constant theme throughout the series. It was something I didn’t pay too much attention to during my first run through the series though, this time around, this motif is hard to ignore. It’s easy to dismiss this idea since our protagonist learns from everybody and naturally thinks about many different people, but he also may be telling us something in his own ramblings as well (More on this later though). While outside of Toga and Uraraka, the other characters don’t appear to have definitive romantic interests, this principle can be applied to a number of characters from class 1A: Mina to Kirishima for her super move, Momo to Todoroki as he’s the first person who comes to mind when she tries to think of a strategy, and weirdly enough Bakugou to Midoriya over his obsession to outshine him. It’s a very narrow lens to view all of this through but it’s certainly noteworthy given Aoyoma’s recent arc in the manga...  Horikoshi has been consistent with his themes and foreshadowing after all.  The second instance we see Uraraka confronted with the idea of romantic feelings is her first fight with Toga. Toga’s view on love is an interesting but VERY important one to keep in mind. 

While this is clearly and obsessive and unhealthy form of love, the wording is rather important. “And you’re thinking you wanna be just like him”  Again with the word “thinking.” Whether or not that’s a fault of the translation I’m not sure, but the whole line sounds like a common trop we’ve already seen. Toga is unknowingly talking about admiration and equating that to romantic feelings. This isn’t to say that admiration in itself is romantic (That would just be weird LOL) but it’s another perspective and interpretation for certain characters. It’s easy to see why so many different ships in the fandom can thrive with these subtle messages. 

Another thing that became quite clear rewatching through season 3 is Midoriya’s own focus when it comes to romance. As adorable as him and Uraraka would be, there’s never been a direct confrontation of feelings for him. His blushing has always been due to his social awkwardness of “a girl” is close proximity or simply just getting to know her. In fact, he’s much more comfortable around her recently than he ever was which could be a number of things. But it does have me questioning if the ship is end game or not. 

I had mentioned Bakugou before. Oddly enough, in both interpretations of love we are given in the earlier seasons, they fit Midoriya’s view on explosion boy to a T. Again, this is a very narrow lens to look through and both frameworks are flawed, but from a narrative standpoint the possibility is there. Even if not romantically, there is an underlying theme of love through the entirety of class 1A. It will be interesting to see where the manga goes and if Uraraka’s feelings are confronted again. When they are it would have to be under her own doing and not what someone else is trying to convince her she feels. 

This was just my observation from the first three seasons. I know there’s some more parallels later and with other ships but it is interesting to think about.

Sometimes I wonder what GOHs through the animators heads. Was it written in the script for them to stare at each other this whole scene or did the animators take the liberty into their own hands. Either way, my brain is fried trying to figure out how they didn’t bump into anything.

Happy Arospec Day! Being aroace, I’m really grateful that I can have two days in a row dedicated to people in my community, who are often overlooked on the LGBTQIA spectrum.

Even though I’ve never had any second thoughts about whether or not I’m asexual, it did take me the longest time to figure out for certain if I was also aromatic. For as long as I can remember, I’ve had feelings that are similar to crushes, where I’d find certain boys appealing for no obvious reason. I would experience most of the typical feelings, getting nervous when talking them, being unable to stop thinking about them, and feeling comforted by their presence if or when I’ve gained trust in them. The key difference though was what I wanted out of their presence. I’ve never been into the idea of kissing or dating, as that just felt gross and unnecessary for me. All I really wanted was to be close friends with them. This feeling is what I now know as a squish, which is the platonic equivalent of a crush that has all the same levels of intensity, but just lacks the desire for romantic interaction.

Back in elementary school, I had no idea that there was such a thing as a non-romantic attraction for people. I knew deep down that my feelings had a lot of technical similarities to crushes, but I never wanted to admit or accept that this was a possibility, since I didn’t want anything to do with traditional dating.

Eventually in middle school, as I was experiencing a particular strong crush on a boy who I had become acquaintances with (which was the first time this had happened), I just couldn’t take not having a word to describe to myself my feelings for him anymore. So, after days of preparing and bracing myself for what was to come… (sigh) I came out to my family and close friends as straight (yes, it felt this dramatic for 13-year-old me). But everyone was super supportive (and understandably confused), and were able to help me try and make sense of how I was feeling.

I remember this was when my older sibling first brought up the concept of squishes to me. Back then, this term did somewhat resonate with me, other than the fact that it seemed to imply a less intense version of a crush. I knew it couldn’t have simply been a less intense version of a romantic crush, since this boy was on my mind 24/7. But the main thing that eventually drew me away from it was having to explain to everyone I mentioned it to what a squish was. So over the years, this term faded into the background for me. Then as I got to know my “crush” better and become closer friends with him, the idea of being in a romantic relationship with him became more and more tolerable, to the point where a part of me became convinced that this was what I wanted (even though it wasn’t). Nothing ended up happening though between him and I, which I believe was for the best given how unsure I felt about my own feelings.

Fast forward to earlier this year, and my best friend @poofbiscuit comes out to me as aromantic. This surprised me at first since we had talked in the past about her previous, infrequent “crushes”. But when she told me that she’s starting to realize that those crushes were really just strong desires to be friends with those people, I remembered that I’ve felt the exact same way about my own “crushes”. This was an incredible moment for me, since not only was it my first time meeting someone who’s experienced attraction in the same platonic way I have, but that someone also happens to be a close friend who I already feel really safe to talk to about personal stuff like this.

A few days later, Poofy reintroduced me to the term “squish”. This time, since I had a close friend to talk to who knew how they felt and who I didn’t need to explain it to, I was much more quick to embrace this term. And now I can proudly say that I identify as aroace.

And no, I’m not just a late bloomer. Maybe I’ll like someone romantically or sexually one day (although I highly doubt that since I’m almost 20 and have yet to experience either feeling once), or maybe I won’t. But no one has the right to decide for me how I identify. My identity is all based on how I myself feel right now, and the same goes for anyone else reading this, no matter how young they are.

Thank you for sharing your story! This post resonates right at home for this romantically queer asexual. I had only learned about the term “squish” a few months ago and it sent me into a spiral of doubt and confusion. It never dawned on me that when people crushed on someone, they actually WANTED to do things with them--not linger around with the intrusive thought from time to time but eventually shake it off as “weird.” I’ve been in two relationships with people I CHOSE to “crush” on, since I legit thought that was how attraction worked. My frame of reference was whatever media I consumed and it led to relentless stalking and obsessively thinking about them--not about doing “relationship” things, but just about them as person and what interests they had. I figured the desire for “couple things” would happen during a relationship... And then they just didn’t. So I tried to force myself to feel said things only to be constantly disappointed by no result. I figured people just exaggerated first kisses--that it was a metaphor--as well as other typical couple stuff. Sure, I felt weird when my first ex grabbed my hand the first time, but we were in a very public place and my anxiety skyrocketed. It’s not to say that arospec people DON’T feel things--in fact we feel things quite intensely (and for me it’s likely fueled by my ADHD) it’s just DIFFERENT from how most people go about life. How I describe romance is it’s like holding a “how to guide” with half the steps whited out while everyone else has the full manual. You’re forced to fill in the blanks in weird and unusual ways only to get to the end and find out you didn’t put it together right. It leads to frustration and a lack of confidence because it further sinks in that something isn’t “normal.”  I share this in hopes this might resonate with other people. I personally, don’t label myself with any romantic identity as I’m still trying to figure that out. Sometimes it’s hard to go about life watching everyone else pair off and be (seemingly) happy with others, but for me, it’s not necessary--it never has been. I has always adored the idea of domestic partnerships and if there’s any type of relationship I desire, it’s something along those terms. A life long best friend seems much more satisfying than whatever society expects of us.

Ash and gou are mimicking each other, which is a clear sign of liking someone. Ash, our beloved boy here, does NOT normal do that "fist in the air, like i just don't care" on a casual basis.

Ever since gou came along though.. Gou's been growing on him. Cute.

Edit: forgot to mention that gou didn't have to move closer like serena did. Ash and gou immediately go close to each other, like 2 magnets. This stays very consistent, in the promo art AND anime.
