Seen this ad? (Wise Civilian & Wise Cop/Vast Self Rabbit Hole)
This is an interactive app designed to promote a philosophy inspired by Pratītyasamutpāda (also known as “dependent arising”).
The app is developed by a nonprofit public charity called Vast Self that aims to “permanently end all personal and World problems” by spreading the message that “humans incorrectly perceive all living beings, things, and themselves as having their own-being,” according to their website.
The organization aims to do this through the production of “educational videos,” “interactive platforms,” “educational apps” and “educational games.” They’ve apparently been active since 2018 and have so far produced a series of videos professing their philosophical message on YouTube and two mobile apps: the “Wise Civilian & Wise Cop” app advertised above and “Wisdom Over Wars,” which strives to “help end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and other wars.”
Essentially, the app is an interactive exercise designed to make the user wake up to the professed truth that we are all part of the same existence with no independent identity, which Vast Self believes will make people realize that hurting others means hurting themselves, thus ending all conflict. They seem to have latched on to major, timely social conflicts in order to promote their message to a wider audience (which has been relatively unsuccessful judging by their YouTube view counts and app download numbers).
