ㆍBig Bro Has Friends Overㆍ

Chatter and laughter pummeled the back of the closed living room door as you sat cross-legged on your bed, night-light bathing the room in a soft, pink glow, favourite stuffie in hand. You could have slept through the jovial noise if you really tried, but it was the nerves that were keeping you up.

Your big brother having one friend over was scary enough, but four? That was far too many. Too many new voices, too many new shoes by the door, too many chances to bump into someone on the way to the bathroom or kitchen. Too many chances to get caught regressed.

Then, you felt your ears perk up. A familiar footfall, and someone knowing just where the kitchen light was the moment they stepped through the door - it was your older brother for sure. You slipped off your bed and began to make your way out of your dimly-lit bedroom with cautious steps, and stopped to take a deep, steadying breath before stepping out into the dark hallway.

The noise was louder out here. Music was audible, tucked under excited voices, and colourful light escaped through the cracks around the door. Shaking off the nerves, you padded through the foyer and into the bright kitchen.

"Oh, hey kid. Thought you were sleeping." He murmured, eyes squinting with focus as he measured the right pour of a bottle, which seemed to you to be full of water, into a small glass and topped it up with lemonade. Then he straightened, and turned to you.

"Are uh, we keeping you up? I can tell the others to quieten down if-" You hugged him. Tight. Hugging him first always made it easier to talk about your feelings, because talking about your feelings is always easier when you're doing so into someone's chest, and they can really hardly hear what you're saying to them at all.

He hugged you back, as always. One arm around your middle, the other across your shoulder with a hand in your hair. He tugged at it ever-so-gently to coax your face up towards him, and looked at you questioningly, concern wrinkling his brow. Your face rose a few degrees in temperature, embarrassment pooling under your skin.

"Um, I.. I just.." You fumbled, searching your mind for accurate words to describe the heavy feeling in the pit of your stomach. Your brother cocked his head to the side, the sour prickle of impatience edging in as his eyes flicked up to the doorway, and back down at you, but he made no move to pull away, and instead sighed softly and said,

"Wanna meet them?"

And your heart sank.

Meet them? Meet all four of his best friends? When you felt like this? There was no chance in this ending well. No chance in this ending up as anything but one giant, embarrassing mess that you'd never live down. That they'd never let you live down.

But then something made you give pause to the ferris wheel of anxiety spinning your chest. You trusted him. Not just to keep you safe, and to beat the crap out of anyone who had a bad word to say about you, but also to keep good company; to have kind friends. Because under all the boyish bravado, under all the rough-and-tumble and the chronic irritability, that was what he was. Kind.

You took another deep breath before steeling yourself, meeting his eyes with yours and-

Knock knock.

Knuckles rapped against the doorframe politely, a gentle, nonverbal greeting, and you froze in your brother's arms like perhaps if you didn't move, they wouldn't see you.

"What's a guy got to do to get a drink around here?" An unfamiliar voice asked softly, edged with humour. You felt your brother's chest shudder against you as he chuckled and apologised, squeezing you just a little tighter before he stepped back, giving you just enough room to turn and peek over your elephant at the newcomer.

They were shorter than your big brother, but taller than you, which wasn't an impressive feat by any means. Fluffy, colourful hair with buzzed sides, too many piercings to count, and a lop-sided smile that eased your racing heart with surprising success. They didn't look so intimidating now that you got a good look at them. Maybe everything was going to be okay.

Before you knew it, the three of you were making your way down the hall as a group, before hesitating in front of the living room door, bass thumping through the wood like marching army. Your brother leaned down, taking your hand in his, and gave you a smirk and a wink before reaching for the handle, just as his friend piped up,

"It's nice that you can even us out. Now there'll be three CGs, and three littles. Now that's a real party."

ʚɞ Let's Go On A Picnic !

⸝⸝ Your caregiver wants to bring you on a picnic ! They want to make sure you have all your things and that you're having fun !!

"Hey kiddo, you've been couped up in your room lately, and I'm starting to feel a bit worried." Your cg stated softly, their tone had a tinge of worry in it.

"How 'bout this, let's go on a small picnic together, just us two. We'll go to that park you liked, with the pond?" They said, watching to see if you'll react.

And you did. A small pique of interest.

Exactly what your caregiver was looking for.

"I see that look of yours. Good. Lets go, little one. I'll help you pack."

Once dressed and packed, your caregiver lifted you up in their arms and then grabbed your bag with the other "Alright kiddo, let's get movin'."

Once you two left the home, the car ride was nice and peaceful. The wind was blowing against your face and hair as the window was rolled down, the music was quiet and enjoyable, and just being in the mere present of your caregiver was making you feel warm.

Maybe going on a picnic wouldn't be bad after all.

After arriving at the park, your caregiver carried you to the pond. You can hear the ducks quacking and the ducklings paddling in the water as if in a rush to follow the parent. It was peaceful.

Your caregiver sets you down before setting up the picnic. By the time they were finished, you both settled down in the checkerboard blanket.

"See? It's nice and pretty, isn't it," They spoke warmly, glancing up at the sky before looking down at you. "Like I said, nothing but us and the ducks." Your caregiver said, looking over at the ducks as you both witness a yellow duckling ducking into the water the resurfacing, shaking its body and fluttering its tiny wings.

"Cute," your caregiver muttered with a soft smile. "And cute things need to eat so they can grow big and strong, ahem... that'll be you kiddo," they said jokingly with a small chuckle. You pout, but wasn't truly upset at the joke.

"Alright, alright. Don't give me that look. I fixed a couple snacks and treats. Pick whichever you like."

Your caregiver smiled as they watched you choose your options to eat and snack on. "There we go, be sure to eat slowly. Don't want ya' to choke." They said gently as they also grab themselves some sandwiches and snacks to munch on.

Time passes slowly, but peacefully as you both watch the view of the pond and how the light reflects beautifully.

Your caregiver looked over at you, and chuckled, seeing how your cheeks were messy with food and sweets, "you're so messy, little one.."

They scoot closer before reaching inside the picnic basket and pulling out a couple of napkins. They then reach over to you and start to gently wipe your face of the mess you made, "ah, hold still. I'm tryna clean ya'" They chuckled affectionately.

Once both your face and hands were clean, your caregiver pulled away with a small smile. "There, all the mess is gone.

"Now... Hm," they thought for a small minute before nodding to themself. "Right. It's starting to become late, so let's do an activity."

They were right, Time went by fast with them relaxing and eating that the sun had set down. Which means that they'll have to leave soon.

Your caregiver noticed your small expression and gently placed a hand on your head, "don't stress, kiddo. We'll be able to come back another time, or go elsewhere." They give your hair a little ruffle before pulling away.

"Turn that frown upside down, we're going to make some flower crowns. If you need help, let me know. I'm here." They reassured gently, giving you a fond smile.

As you two made flower crowns for one another, you would ask for help every now and then, and your caregiver would help you out but also giving you enough room to do it on your own.

Once done, you showed off your flower-crown to your caregiver, looking up at them with pleading eyes to take it and tell you how you did.

Your caregiver was caught off guard slightly by the sudden presentation before relaxing again with a small, fond smile. "Won't you look at that. This looks absolutely amazing, kid! You did a good job."

They carefully grabbed the flower crown from your hands and placed it on their head. A little small, but it was perfect because you made it.

"Fits like a charm," they said fondly yet jokingly. "I'm proud of ya'."

"Here, for you...," Your caregiver lifted their own hand-made flowercrown and carefully placed it on your head, a bit big.

But just as perfect.

Thunderstorms

The thunder roared loudly outside, sending a low rumble through the bedroom floorboard. You flinched in fear of the loud noises, making you pull your teddy closer to your chest to find comfort.

You didn't like storms, and it shows.

Scared, you shuffled off your bed and waddled out of your bedroom. You didn't want to be alone, you needed more than just your teddy to comfort you.

Your thoughts come to the conclusion of Micheal. The eldest and the meanest in the family, well..., mostly to [REDACTED]. But he was also kind when he's in the right mood, he'll bandage your scraped knee, he'll help Elizabeth with her hair, he'll even help [REDACTED] go to sleep.

Micheal had his moments and those moments are things you cherish deeply.

Before you knew it, you were right in front of Micheal's bedroom door, that had a big sign of "DO NOT ENTER" on it. But you ignored it, reaching out your hand to open the doorknob.

Micheal was sitting on the edge of his bed, bobbing his head as he listens to his music on his portable mp3 player, earphones in his ears as he jammed out.

Micheal's head lifted up once he noticed the door opening, at first he looked annoyed, but he noticed you which made his expression soften slightly. His eyes catch the sight of you holding your teddy tightly and the scared, pleading look in your eyes.

He softly smirked, gently jerking his head to gesture you to come inside. An invitation.

"Heya squirt", he said, rolling his shoulders before taking his earphones out and pausing his music. He used one hand to spot the free space beside him before leaning back against his headboard with his hands behind his head.

"Thunder makin' too much noise, hm?" He asked with a small, but soft smirk on his lips.

You nod your head,, rubbing a small hand against your eye as your other hand held your teddy tightly against your chest. You couldn't help but sniffle, in need of comfort.

Micheal sighed softly, shaking his head with an affectionate smirk. "Alright, alright. Come 'ere, don't go getting all teary on me."

You padded across the room, your feet slightly dragging but your past slightly quick. As soon as you reach the side of his bed, Micheal leaned down and scooped you up into his arms before gently sitting you down beside him on the mattress.

You squeaked in awe, always impressed on how strong your big brother was. Micheal noticed the staring and chuckled softly, "aye, what's with th' look, mate/lass? Hm?" He asked with a teasing tone as he gently tossed one of his weighted blankets over your shoulders.

Then, another sharp crackle of thunder echoed loudly outside, making you shrink back and squeak loudly.

"Hey, hey... chill," Micheal said, his protective instincts kicking in by your fearful streak. It made his heart ache slightly with worry. But at the same time, thunder was just noise and it wouldn't harm you.

He wants you to know that.

"It's just noise, bud. Why be scared when I'm here? I'm Micheal motha-" he paused his words, knowing it wasn't a time for swearing. He let out a small sigh, "Ain't nothin' gettin' past me, not even the storms. I'm tough and you know it.

He reached his free hand to gently, but playfully tug one of the locks of your hair to make you smile.

You got your bear, the blanket, and you got the coolest big bro in the whole world right here," Micheal bragged with a light chuckle.

"You're totally safe, kiddo."

You let out a soft sigh, your kind completely relaxing as the comfortable, warm feeling took over. You snuggled deeper into Micheal's side while the rain falls down outside, now sounding like white noise instead of scary noise.

Because Micheal was here to protect you.

Always.

"Get some sleep, bud," he murmured softly, a find smile breaking across his face. "I ain't going nowhere."
