Sneak Out || Arya & Tessa
Tessa felt at ease in the quaint little café. The two girls sat amongst young couples and old friends, whispered conversations and steam that came from freshly brewed coffee. She inhaled deeply threw her nose; the smell of grounded coffee beans and warm chocolate chip cookies made her smile. The pine and juniper scented candle added to the overall homey smell that the café had to offer. “How did you find this gem?” Tessa asked, since the café wasn’t on the main street; they had passed through a couple of small ones to get to it. Yet when Tessa looked out the window, people passed by; smiling, laughing or with simply serene looks on their faces. Tessa wrapped her hands around her coffee and turned her attention back to Arya when she started to talk about places they could go. She tapped her chin with a finger thoughtfully, “Well I don’t know if I want to get completely wasted. It depends on what time you want to get back to Hogwarts? We should be careful since the guard is raised during the evening hours and I really wouldn’t like to be hexed because I was mistaken for the attacker. That wouldn’t be a fun story,” Tessa shook her head lightly as she wondered about what they would do today. "I haven’t had a drink in a while either. As for Slytherin parties, don’t worry Arya, the snakes aren’t against you yet. None of us have had access to enough alcohol lately and will all of the commotion because of the attacks we’ve had a hard time finding places to actually host the party," Tessa explained. "But I’ll be sure to nudge them in the ribs for an invite for you if there’s a new party. I was thinking about hosting a New Year’s party, because hopefully drama will die down by then, but we’ll just have to see. Tessa tucked a stray hair behind her ear as she glanced out the window once more. She smiled and took a sip of her warm cappuccino, the aroma filling her with a happy spirit. Arya cursed so suddenly that Tessa gave a yelp of surprise and almost spilt her coffee on her blouse. “Oh dear,” she muttered as she set the coffee down, “are you alright?” she looked up to see Arya sucking on her finger.

"Coffee sounds good. Although Hogwarts has some pretty remarkable meals, the house elves need to learn to make better coffee," Tessa nodded in agreement as the two girls walked and laughed through the corridors. The painting that Arya had let them too was beautiful and intricate. It was quite a big painting too. The nautical war scene towered before them, cannons firing repeatedly and soft sounds of blasts could be heard from the distance they stood from the painting. While Tessa continued to admire the painting, her attention flickered to Arya. She seemed to be chanting a spell. Before Tessa could question it, the water drained from the image to reveal a passageway. Arya helped her up into it and the two of them navigated their way through it by wand light. As they did so, Tessa wondered to herself how many times Arya had used this passageway. Soon natural light filled the tunnel and they didn’t need their wands anymore, “Nox," they whispered in unison. Tessa felt herself pulled by Arya who was suddenly moving at a faster pace. Soon the two moved side by side, eager to get to Hogsmeade unseen. The second Tessa set foot on the cobblestones of Hogsmeade’s main street, she felt at ease. Together, the two girls strode proudly through it, Arya leading them to the café she had mentioned earlier. It was lovely and quaint, definitely calmer than what Tessa had expected from Arya, but nevertheless it was lovely. Tessa asked for a cappuccino while they sat there. “So,” Tessa said as she pulled off her gloves and unbuttoned her jacket, “What is the big picture for today’s plan?” she asked, resting her elbows on the table and inhaling the scent of the lovely candle that Arya had lit by wand.

"Oh shit, Abernathy? That Auror’s one tough bitch," Tessa remarked as Arya explained their possibilities for a successful escape plan. "Hmm well, let’s go try that passage, shall we?" she smiled, happy that Arya spared them both thoughts about the most recent attacks. "As for that Forbidden Forest story, you have got to give me details. It sounds like it has a lot of depth to it,” Tessa grinned, always eager to hear what trouble her friend had gotten into. Tessa walked in stride with Arya to the passage. Every time they passed a hallway crossing she’d check for Aurors. Whilst still on school grounds, they could easily say that they were on a free period, but the second they set foot outside of the castle; that’s when they’d be in trouble. Glancing around every now and then, Tessa managed to keep her calm as always, as the two girls made their way through the corridors. “Well,” Tessa commenced after hearing out the Ravenclaw girl’s question, “a drink or two sounds perfect actually,” she answered with a small nod. The most recent attacks have put so much stress on Hogwarts and everyone in it, that it was effecting Tessa worse than a terrible hangover would. She bit the inside of her cheek to avert her thoughts from the attacks. “Are there any other stops you’d like to make?” she nudged Arya playfully in the ribs as they made a sharp turn into yet another corridor.
“Are there any other stops you’d like to make?” Tessa's elbow poked into Arya's thin ribs and she rolled her eyes, laughing, "depends, are you going to hit me again if we stop for coffee? the stuff they give us in the dining hall is shit."
They kept walking at their brisk pace, checking each corner before finally approaching the 2nd floor corridor. A huge oil painting adorned the stone wall, depicting a ship, the HMS Majesty, firing it's cannons at a spanish man-o-war, Soles Azules. Arya procured her wand from her pocket and slid it slowly over the bottom border of the gold frame, whispering an incantation she'd been taught by a 7th year when she was just 14, a little fourth year, so innocent, only sneaking out to by chocolates and jewelry from the shops in town.
The painting appeared to melt, briefly, and the water in the ocean that the two ships sat in drained and a tunnelway appeared, tall enough for the two girls to stand in it. She turned around, and hoisted herself up so she wouldn't have to use her knees, and then offered her hand to Tessa, and helped her inside. "Lumos," she whispered, and her wand gave off a white glow. They walked for a fair while in the tunnel, illuminated only by the tips of their wands, before exiting outside, on the underside of a strangely shaped hill with a few rocks, marking the entrance from the outside. "Nox. Let's go!" Arya said, increasing her pace, as Hogsmead's warm glow and juniper scent was visible just under a mile away.
When they arrived, Arya led Tessa inside a small cafe that she always made a point to come to on both sanctioned and unsanctioned trips to the town. Ordering a coffee, she sat, and removed her gloves, tucking them inside her pocket, and then lit the small, green candle on the table with her wand, and a scent of pine and juniper emanated from it's flame.

Tucking her wand into the inside pocket of her long wool coat, she patted it gently before turning her attention back to the mirror and rechecking her appearance. She pulled on her gloves and knit hat, and tiptoed as quietly as her boots would allow her to out of the Ravenclaw dormitory and made for the stairs, hoping no one would stop her to ask where she was going. She'd told Tessa to meet her by the bronze gargoyles on the 8th and a half floor, as they were planning to sneak out to Hogsmeade.
Making her way through groups of students on the stairs, loitering as they made plans or waited for their friends, she was excited - she hadn't been out of Hogwarts for weeks, and wanted badly to see strangers. New faces not buried in books or cliques.
Standing on a specific stair on a specific flight of the moving staircases, it shifted to allow her access to the 8th and half floor, (which was neatly nestled between 8 and 9,) and leaned against the wall near an alcove where the first of the gargoyles Tessa and she had talked about was. She waited.
"Sean, you put that camera down right now!"
"Why, afraid of having your picture taken?"
Arya, complaining to her former best friend Sean, who was behind the camera.
