Farhan Azmi: A constitutional activist or communal violence activist?
Farhan Azmi falls in trouble with the Mumbai Police yet again after a non-cognisable cross-complaint was registered against Azmi for getting into a brawl over car parking in Parel.
On Abu Farhan Azmi’s visit to his hairdresser, his guard got into a heated argument with the locals after he refused to move the car from the parking spot which was reserved for locals. Farhan then came to the spot and got into a physical fight with six other locals.
After the locals were allegedly manhandled by Farhan Azmi and his guard, a police complaint was registered against both the parties for voluntarily causing hurt and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace.
However, Farhan Azmi turned this whole incident into a communal episode after he allegedly made a statement saying that he was assaulted by the locals for being from a particular religion. He further stated that he will seek inquiry into a communal angle over the same.
According to Shekhar Tawde, senior inspector Kala Chowki police station: Farhan Azmi tried to register an FIR under Section 295 A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs). However, the police have only registered the relevant Non-Cognisable (NC) complaint.
Shiv Sena Member of Parliament (MP) Anil Desai denied any communal angle to the incident. “Neither Farhan Azmi nor Abu Asim Azmi is able to do anything politically or socially. Hence, they try to give a communal colour to everything. They are not even able to serve the cause of the community that they belong to,” Desai said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone IV) Ashok Dudhe said, “We have registered an NC based on the statement given by Azmi. There was no mention of any communal angle in it. It was an issue over parking.”
This is not the first time that influential politicians have tried to play the communal card to get away with their wrongdoings. However, it is quite surprising that this time it has come from Farhan Azmi, whose Twitter and Instagram bio proclaims that he is a constitutional activist but his actions prove one of a communal violence activist who intends to disrupt the existing peace and harmony in the society.
